Roar!

The beast let out a roar and pounced on Auric, but Ellia appeared above the beast and cut its neck.

"Be careful." Ellia looked at him.

"Don’t worry. They won’t be able to do anything to me because of that poison."

"Are you worried about the city?" Ellia glanced into the distance. "Your teacher has gone there. I’m sure she will take care of everything."

"That’s right. The last thing you need to worry about is the city. Don’t worry. No matter what they’re throwing at us, the city won’t fall," Lindwurm surprisingly said.

Auric gave a wry smile. "I know. I am merely trying to figure out the situation."

"Well, if you’re going to get distracted again, I’m going to slap you to remind you." Ellia sighed.

While Ellia returned to her position, Auric glanced to the side thoughtfully. ’Now, we need to talk about what you said, Lindwurm. What the hell do you mean by that? How strong is my father? Does he have another arrangement?’

His father had become mysterious the moment he encountered Lindwurm, so he was curious about the situation. This kind of assurance could only come from a hidden arrangement, after all.

"Ah, that..." Lindwurm looked away. "I wonder... Ahahaha."

Auric’s eyebrows twitched. He didn’t know what was going on, but Lindwurm looked so confident that nothing would happen. It seemed there was yet another mystery about his father.

He would definitely figure it out later, but since he believed in Lindwurm, he should make an assumption that the city would remain standing. This way, he could focus on the beasts.

...

In the city, the Lightning Emperor suddenly noticed the commotion. He turned back and looked down, finding beasts entering the city.

Before he had time to ask, the commander sent him a message. "Lightning Emperor. We’ve been breached. I’ve sent a team there. I need you to protect the city gate for ten minutes."

Although he didn’t know the situation, the Lightning Emperor immediately leaped down.

He raised his hand, forming a lightning spark on top of his palm. Then, he waved it down, throwing a lightning bolt to the ground.

This lightning bolt produced a massive spark that spread in all directions, electrocuting nearby beasts. Still, he had to use a lot of power this time, shattering windows and destroying vehicles.

Nonetheless, he managed to take the beasts down. However, the beasts continued to pour in through the gate.

The Lightning Emperor turned around and summoned his avatar. The avatar then merged with him, forming full-body armor.

The Lightning Emperor pointed his finger at the gate and sent forth a lightning dragon attack. The dragon blasted everything in its path and knocked the beasts away from the gate.

The people on the wall were confused as some beasts looked as though they had been knocked back from inside the city.

Soon, the Lightning Emperor separated from his avatar. The avatar then floated forward, blocking the gate. His avatar was full-body armor made of lightning.

It was big enough to cover a portion of the gate.

After that, the Lightning Emperor clapped his hands. "Discharge!"

The avatar released lightning strikes in all directions. There were beasts pouncing on the armor, but a bolt of lightning came their way, overpowering them and destroying their entire bodies.

With the armor standing in front of the gate, no enemy could get in.

"The north gate is secured for now. What is going on, Commander?" The Lightning Emperor asked.

"The enemy is trying to destroy the city. This is one of their plans. They might be aiming for the newly discovered ruins around this city, but we can’t send any teams to that place yet. I just need you to stay there and let my team repair the gate and close it again."

"All right. Ten minutes. You better hurry. The overlord is coming! I have to be there to stop it."

"If it comes to that, I will go there myself."

"Okay then."

On the west gate, Maya had decided to finish the battle as quickly as possible.

"Transform."

The avatar’s body started to become translucent and flowed into her body.

Maya waved her hand, blowing away the dust cloud that covered her.

"!!!" The muscular man widened his eyes. Maya was suddenly wearing a flaming black coat. Long rabbit ears formed on top of her head, but they looked more like antennae than actual ears.

The black energy surrounding her body was pitch black and looked like fire, making her look more ominous. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Heh. You look like you’re able to fight me for some time!" The muscular man grinned and leaped toward her. His right arm released a burst of energy forward. "The Claw of Anteram!"

Maya just looked at him with half-closed eyes as though she were too lazy to fight him.

She raised her hand as the black flame covered her palm. As soon as the palm touched her mouth, it spread and turned into a mask.

"Scream for me!" The muscular man grinned and waved his claw.

Bam!

Their clash lasted only for a split second.

The enemies widened their eyes as they couldn’t believe what they saw.

The muscular man was supposed to have the advantage. He also looked strong. His energy was more fiery and robust compared to Maya’s.

But the next thing they realized, the muscular man just stood there. His right arm was already destroyed, along with the right side of his body.

"W...what?" The muscular man glanced back before he spat a mouthful of blood. He couldn’t comprehend what had just happened.

He was supposed to hit Maya, but the next thing he realized, Maya had already passed by him like a ghost.

"Your mouth might be bigger than your muscles are. In the end, they’re useless." Maya’s right hand had expanded as well, as though it had become the hand of a demon. "Can’t even draw out my full power... It’s embarrassing."

However, the energy used to form the hand gradually disappeared as though it had returned to her palm.

"You..." The muscular man couldn’t believe it, but there was nothing he could do. He lost too much blood and his consciousness faded away. In the end, he fell to the ground, unable to do even a single thing against her.

"What?"

"What’s going on?"

"How did she..."

The rest of the enemies were confused and panicking. The calm guy who had warned the muscular man earlier shouted, "Run!"

Maya looked around and said, "You’re under arrest. Your only option is to remain silent. Anything you say will make you a zombie. You will need an attorney in hell, so if you can’t afford one, good luck."

Maya waved her hand. The darkness spread in all directions, reaching even the furthest person.

The darkness soon crawled onto their bodies, restraining their movements. Many fell down immediately.

"No, stop!" The calm guy finally couldn’t contain his calm anymore. He looked at Maya in horror. "St—mmfff!"

His mouth was covered in darkness.

"Ssshhh." Maya put her finger on her lips while saying, "It’s night. You can’t make noises... like forever."

With a snap of her fingers, all the captured enemies had their bodies snapped or pierced by the darkness.

She simply had no intention of sparing them, even for information. Besides, she had to focus on something else.

The beasts had started to come in, so Maya immediately turned around. With a single leap, she reached the gate.

The beasts noticed her, but there were still beasts trying to run deeper into the city.

Maya simply spread her darkness one more time and captured all the beasts.

She snapped her fingers one more time, killing all the beasts.

"Looks like it’s done here..." Maya muttered after confirming that all the beasts that had entered the city were no longer a threat.

She walked outside as more beasts were coming in.

There were at least dozens of beasts trying to enter the city, and Maya didn’t have time to take care of them.

Maya raised her palm toward the sky.

"!!!" The soldiers on top of the wall were startled, looking at the sky, which suddenly turned dark.

"What’s going on?"

"Whose power is this?"

"Look. There is someone below!"

The dark sky was suddenly split open as fingers emerged from the slit and gradually opened it.

A pair of bloodshot eyes shone from within, making everyone look scared. Even the beasts could feel the immense power from within.

They tried to shoot the silhouette behind the slit, but it was useless. None of them had the strength to stop the attack.

Some people were so scared that they had a hard time breathing.

The moment the slit was fully open, the dark silhouette emerged. It showed its malicious grin. Its appearance looked similar to Maya’s familiar, but it looked much more menacing.

The silhouette came down and extended its hands.

The beasts were trying to erect the barrier to stop the silhouette. Unfortunately for them, it was useless.

The moment the silhouette touched the ground, a wave of dark energy spread out in all directions.

The beasts panicked, but there was nothing they could do. Once the dark wave passed their bodies, their bodies exploded from within and sliced from the outside at the same time, splattering their flesh and blood around.

Not a single beast could withstand this power. All beasts within twenty meters lost their lives in an instant.

In just one attack, Maya actually took down over two hundred beasts.

As if it were satisfied with the lives that it had taken, the dark silhouette gradually retreated back to the void and closed the slit as though it were closing the curtain.

People panicked at first, but they couldn’t help but cheer, never expecting such a powerful person to come to assist them.

Still, the terror from the silhouette couldn’t help but grow in the hearts of many people. Some might even start having nightmares about this silhouette from time to time.

"I’m really not good at defending..." Maya sighed. She just leaned on the wall while crossing her arms, looking at all the beasts as though she were challenging them. ’If you want to enter, you need to pass me first.’

"Adjudicator Maya. How is the west gate?"

"It’s fine."

"Understood. The north gate has been secured as well. Please wait until our team can take over and close the gate."

"You need to hurry. In fact, I think you can try sneaking in some reinforcement to help the students. I will check the ruins myself after this. A chief adjudicator is about to arrive here, maybe in about forty minutes."

"If that’s the case, we will try to send out reinforcements for the students."

"Good."

...

Inside a shelter, a mysterious voice echoed out. "The city has become noisy. I wonder how much of this is coincidence and how much is not."
