Reincarnated in the game world ~ A gamer's beginning to [Dungeon job hunting recommendation]
Chapter 701Vol. 12 - - It’s Training Time #3 - The Stiff Knight, and the Seeker of Personality.
After imparting guidance to Orihime-san, Rosetta stepped up next.
"So, let's do it, Rosetta."
"L-let's do it!"
"...Well, you don't have to be so stiff."
Rosetta appeared nervous, and it was reflected in her body gesture.
She was donning a silvery white armour, much in the fashion of a knight. In contrast to what she'd in inter-class competition, her current set of equipment were grade above in appearance as well.
Unlike the lightly equipped attacker Ester and Aegis, who also shared knight features in their equipment, Rosetta's armor was visibly bulky.
Beyond the reinforced bulkiness, she also had full metal parts on her shoulder, arms, and flanks of her skirt. In her left hand, she carried a huge heater shield, while a one-handed sword in right.
After Ester's two-hander spear wielding style, and Aegis's one-handed spearmanship as the fellow Knights, the classic sword was quite a refreshing style.
Instead of thrust, she would be maining the slash style.
"I know we went through it almost at the complete tail end, but are you really fine with «Princess Knight»?"
"Of course! If anything, I'm glad to have the chance for «Princess Knight» over «Paladin»! You really have my gratitude for making it happen, Zephyr-san!"
"Geh, you're again being so formal. Just take it easy, like how you are with Fraumina and Katalina."
"T-that would be preposterous."
I know she could converse just fine like any highschool girl without any honorifics, like she does with Fraumina and Katalina. She also called me "Brave-kun" typically.
But I guess, as a Knight, it didn't seem like she could speak casually with me. ...Alas, that's Knight pedigree for you.
Perhaps, we just needed to become familiar over time.
"Now, to the main topic, I have you as both a tank and an attacker in my mind. Any objections?"
"No! None at all!"
Rosetta wasn't a pure tank; she also doubled as an attacker. This was because the Princess Knight's SUP limit was fixed at «STR +5». Since she gains +5 STR every time she levels up, she would inevitably have STR stats at 385 or more by Level 75. I have to factor this in while showing her the path to the tank. It's quite a troublesome and difficult task.
In essence, in parallel to aggro drawing skills, I would've her also acquire more offensive and defensive skills. As for the SUP, besides the natural limit, they would be spent in reinforcing defence as much as possible.
Once she's third-order skill tree unlocked, I have plans for her to acquire the «Carriage» as well. We're going to have 4 of them by then.
Rosetta's ultimate goal was «Heaven's Protector Princess Knight», an advanced job.
The current training plan was going to incorporate that as well. After all, it's better to keep a solid foundation from the starting line. Time would tell, but I was already looking forward to her future.
Next up was Fraumina's turn. With her drooping dog ears, she gave the impression of a timid girl at first glance. But in contrast to that, she often played the role of the energetic straight-man to Katalina and Rosetta, leaving a strong impression.
Her voice was cute, one that would really stick in your mind. With her big, round eyes and slightly short stature, she looks a bit like a loli.
Much like others, she, too, came putting up her equipment. Her was in a light orange-theme... though, at a glance, it fits more the description of a school uniform, with a sweater-like top, a short mini-skirt, and a large white and orange cloak. (T/N - Sounds like the detective girl dressed as Sherlock Holmes in anime, minus the smoker and cap.)
She held a one-handed wand in her right hand as a weapon. But, her left hand was devoid of any equipment, a restriction of her job.
"Pleased to meet you! It is an honor to be trained by Zephyr-kun, de-arimasu!"
"Oh, likewise. But what's with that speech quirk?"
"Yes! I felt I lacked a bit of individuality, so I consulted Pamela-san, and she said adding a distinctive speech ending would give me individuality, hence de-arimasu!"
"You consulted Pamela, huh?"
Certainly, Pamela's "desu" was quite unique. It's not entirely incomprehensible that someone wanting to stand out would consult Pamela, but... I think she could've chosen someone better.
"Um, is it strange after all?"
As I said, Fraumina was short. So, now that she's looking up at me with teary eyes, I was struck by cuteness appeal.
"............Hmm. I say, the previous straight-man role suited you better."
If your speech ends with "de arimasu," it'll be tough to be the straight-man, you know? Besides, Fraumina's sharp comebacks had been a great help. We barely have any straight-me in the guild who could jab like her!
"Is that so? Hmm, then I'll think of something else."
"I think Fraumina is perfectly fine as she is, without needing to create a character."
"Thank you! But there are many people more amazing than me in this guild. I want to keep working hard to develop my own character so I don't get lost in the shuffle!"
"I see, do your best. I am rooting for you!"
We did have a grand total of 34 guild members. It wasn't entirely incomprehensible why she would try that. In that case, I ought to support her.
Well, I just hope the effort goes more than just on character quirk.
"Well then, let's start your job training right away."
"Please do!"
Fraumina salutes by placing her right hand on her forehead. She really was adorable. I could see why Celia was captivated. I thought so to myself, but I kept that from appearing on my face and proceeded with a serious demeanor. I wouldn't want the teasing to be a reason for her to quit our guild. It would be a waste.
"Well, your new job is a complete upgrade from your previous «Pack Leader» job. You now have more abilities at your disposal, but the basic usage hasn't changed much. Fraumina, you'll master it in no time."
Fraumina's new job was «Alpha Job». It was a tamer job that allowed her to control up to six monsters, while primarily having two fight at a time.
Also, during combat, she could control and enhance her monster allies. The defense/guardian monsters were also included in the list of monsters she could tame, making her very strong in defense. She'd done the same in the previous inter-class competition.
The second advantage of her job was the versatility. The various types of monsters mean she could also play multi-role depending on the monsters.
The other plus point, and more interesting one, was the monster trainer ability. As far it concerned «Dungeon Activity», the tamer job allowed the players to train monsters beyond what they're during taming. Plus, some monsters could even be made to evolve when they reach a certain level cap.
At one point in the game, the monster master aspect was a raze. It even gave rise to the guild battle tournament exclusive for monster masters only guild over the title of "Strongest Monster Master".
In other words, monster masters were always a popular and romantic archetype. I've done my fair share of training them too.
However, monsters were different from people in that they could not allocate stats, and they learned skills automatically, among other differences, which was a bit of a bummer.
The only other exciting aspect about them was raising their level and evolving them. Then again, writing in surveys to developers, asking for better roles for the monsters, could also result in player characters becoming obsolete. So, in a sense, this balance was probably a necessity.
Anyway, I digressed.
"Are these two monsters the ones you mentioned, Fraumina?"
"Yes, de arimasu! It's Ru-chan, the «Leader Wolf», and Chii-chan, the «Super Mochiko». Both of you, come out!"
As Fraumina said that, her cloak fluttered, and a «Leader Wolf» and a «Super Mochiko» sprang out from inside.
......Mochiko was one thing, but how in tarnation could the enormous wolf have been hidden there? The answer was---«Monster Storage».
This physically impossible way of storing them was one of the tamer-type abilities.
It's the ability to store and freely retrieve monsters. The higher the skill level, the more monsters you could carry around (up to six).
There was a reason for such skill to exist. The tamer had a limit on the number of monsters they could have out. The general limit was two.
If they have three or more out, both the monsters and the tamer themselves are penalized and weakened. Vice-versa, choosing to bring out one monster strengthens them.
The tamer job without any restriction would be just too OP, after all. The tamer could just release a horde of monsters and win without success conditions.
However, it would be a waste of abilities to only keep two monsters. The monsters had different characteristics depending on their type. They might have a bad match-up with an opponent, or a good one. In such cases, having "Monster Storage" allows tamers to swap monsters. In other words, the tamers could always fight with an advantage against their opponent. It's an incredibly powerful skill, and a must-have.
"Chii-chan is special. She's the monster who became my first companion in a beginner dungeon."
Saying that, Fraumina lifts Mochiko and nuzzles her.
This Mochiko was a bit larger and cherry-blossom in colour. The «Super Mochi-chan» was the 2nd evolved form of a «Mochiko».
As much as it was adorable in appearance, the «Super Mochiko» was also a super elastic tank, as chewy as real mochi! It also had the interruption ability, birdlime, which it threw at the opponent's feet to entangle and seal their movement.
Then again, while it had "Super" in its name, it's still a Mochiko, and honestly, not that strong.
And her second monster was «Leader Would».
«Leader Wolf» was the evolved form of «Wolf» which takes place when it reaches LV15. Incidentally, monsters were harder to level up. And after going through evolution, their level would reset back.
To add, in the evolution tree, «Leader Wolf» wasn't the first evolution of «Wolf.» «Wolf» also had the opportunity to evolve to «Senior Wolf» at LV8, and then to «Luger Wolf» at LV11. But, if the tamer could fight the temptation, then they would've the opportunity to evolve it to «Leader Wolf» at LV15.
Besides them, Fraumina also had three other monsters, but they were entrusted to a facility called the Monster Ranch. It's safe to say that a tamer's strength was determined by the monsters they employ. I'll have to take a look at them later.
Apparently, she had entrusted all of them to the ranch when she changed jobs.
"Heh, it's cute. Can I touch it too?"
"Of course! Chii-chan will be happy!"
"Puru-puru."
Saying that, Fraumina offers me Chii-chan, the «Super Mochiko», held in her arms.
Come to think of it, I'd slashed Mochiko countless times, but this was my first time actually touching one. No, it might even be my first time touching an actual monster.
The first touch of Mochiko felt, well, squishy. It was very similar to the texture of the Mochiko plushie in the guild house.
The maker of that plushie must have divine skills to achieve that quality , I thought to myself.
