Chapter 72: Letting The Past Drift Away [Power Stones Goal Bonus Chapter]
Patty and Leslie held onto James for a while, their warm embrace, unspokenly filled with emotions — gratitude, love, relief. They didn’t need words to express what they felt, as their actions said it all.
When they finally pulled away, both of them had wide smiles on their faces, their eyes shimmering with happiness.
Patty placed a gentle hand on James’ shoulder, giving him one final look filled with affection.
"Thank you, sweetheart. For everything."
Leslie, who was usually loud and playful, nodded firmly this time, her voice unusually soft.
"Yeah. Thank you, James."
James didn’t say much. He simply smiled, nodded, and patted them both lightly on the head.
"Go get some rest."
With that, Patty and Leslie bid him goodnight and walked up the grand staircase to their rooms, their footsteps light, their hearts lighter.
James stood there for a moment, watching them go before exhaling softly. It felt good to see them happy and he will continue to make sure they stay happy, and to keep that smile on their faces always.
Finally, he turned toward his own room and made his way upstairs.
The moment James stepped into his room, the cool air and dim lighting greeted him like a comforting embrace. He had barely settled in, yet this place already felt like home.
Unlike his previous small, cramped bedroom, this one was spacious, extravagant, and almost unreal.
The king-sized bed sat in the center, layered with plush pillows and a thick, luxurious duvet. A private lounge area was set up near the glass wall that overlooked the estate’s backyard.
A walk-in closet. A private bathroom with a jacuzzi. A fireplace. A massive smart TV mounted on the wall.
All of these... they belongs to him.
James chuckled as he shook his head slightly.
"Man, life is crazy."
He grabbed a fresh set of clothes and headed into the bathroom.
The bathroom was an experience on its own. The sleek marble tiles, the soft ambient lighting, and the scent of fresh linen filling the air made it feel more like a five-star hotel than a personal residence.
James stepped into the shower, letting the hot water cascade down his skin, soothing his muscles and washing away the fatigue of the day.
As he stood under the steady stream, he thought about how far he had come.
Just a week ago, he was broke, exhausted, and uncertain about his future.
He had been fired from his part-time job —a job he had relied on for survival. And that night, he had felt helpless.
He had laid in bed that night, staring at the ceiling, feeling nothing but frustration and exhaustion.
He had thought about his life — how unfair it was, how painful it had been, how tired he was of struggling.
And he made a wish. He had made a simple wish, not expecting anything to change.
"I just wish I could wake up to a different reality."
And when he did wake up, everything had changed and the system had appeared.
And just like that, the course of his life had been rewritten.
James chuckled softly.
"A modern-day miracle."
He finished his shower, dried himself off, and changed into his nightwear before stepping out of the bathroom.
James walked toward the massive bed and sank into it, pulling the thick duvet over himself. The soft fabric wrapped around him like a cocoon of comfort.
Yet, despite the warmth, his mind remained awake. As he lay there, staring up at the ceiling, his thoughts drifted back to his childhood.
Back to when life was simple.
When his father was still alive, when his mother was still there, when he didn’t have to worry about money, work, or survival.
He could still remember their voices. Their laughter. The way his father would ruffle his hair. The way his mother would sing softly while cooking dinner.
And then in the blink of an eye, they were gone.
First, his father.
The news had come like a thunderclap on a clear day. A plane crash. A tragedy. A sudden, irreversible loss.
His mother had wept for weeks. She had tried to stay strong for him, but James had seen it — the way her hands trembled when she thought no one was watching, the emptiness in her eyes.
And then, as if the universe hadn’t taken enough, she was gone too.
A hit-and-run accident.
James clenched his fist under the blanket. He never even got to say goodbye.
For years, he had carried that pain. That loneliness. He had wanted answers. He had wanted justice. He had wanted to scream at the world for being so cruel.
But he had been powerless. Just a kid trying to survive.
"Mom. Dad."
James raised his hand slightly, staring at the ceiling.
"Your son has finally made it."
"I have retired Patty, and she no longer needs to work. I have more than enough money to spend for a lifetime and I can comfortably provide for Patty and Leslie. I wish you were here to see it. I wish things had turned out differently."
His lips curved into a small, bittersweet smile.
"I hope you’re both resting peacefully. I love you."
James took a deep breath and let the past drift away, and turning his focus to the future. He knew that he can no longer change the past, but he can shape the future however he wants.
The world was about to change and he wasn’t just some lucky kid who stumbled upon wealth.
No. He has a system. A power that could elevate him above everyone else and he wasn’t going to waste it.
His goal was set—a trillion-dollar empire. Not just wealth. Power. Influence. Control.
"I’m going to dominate this world."
And if anyone stood in his way? He would crush them. No matter who it was. No matter what it took.
His mind flashed to the people who had doubted him, the ones who had looked down on him when he had nothing.
The arrogant elites. The corrupt corporations. The gatekeepers who controls everything from the shadows. As long as they stand in his way, he will crush them and and make them all kneel before him.
James smirked as a thought crossed his mind.
"World domination begins with getting a system in a modern world."
He laughed softly at the absurdity of it. But it wasn’t just a joke. It was reality. His reality.
James let out a deep breath, feeling lighter, as he closed his eyes, letting his mind drift as he settled into his bed.
