Chapter 584: Chapter 574: Direct Hospitalization

After the train came to a stop, Yuan Lishu exchanged a few polite words with Director Bai and then, without giving Shen Yunfang and her husband a glance, hurriedly grabbed her bag and got off the train.

"Heh, I guess I’ll be on my way too. We shall meet again," Director Bai said, feeling somewhat awkward and quickly getting ready to leave as well.

"We shall meet again," said Li Hongjun, as he was helped to his feet by Shen Yunfang.

Once most of the passengers had departed, Shen Yunfang finally picked up her black bag and helped Li Hongjun off the train.

"We’re finally about to be home," Shen Yunfang sighed in relief as she stepped off the train.

"Right, let’s go home first and see the kids," suggested Li Hongjun to Shen Yunfang. Their original plan was to go straight to the hospital after getting off the train.

"No we should go to the hospital. When can’t we see the kids? Your health is the most important thing right now. Besides, it’s just noon; Pangpang and Manman are definitely at the daycare. Even if we went home, we wouldn’t be able to see the kids. We’d have to wait until evening," Shen Yunfang disagreed. It was clear to her what was more and less important. They were back in the Capital now, they could see the kids any day. But Li Hongjun had just taken a train ride while still not fully recovered. Who knew if his injuries had worsened over the past couple of days? And there was the mental trauma he was coping with. Although he had X-rays and had been seen by doctors at the field hospital, the medical facilities there couldn’t compare to those in the Capital. She was thinking of having him thoroughly checked out once he was admitted to the hospital.

"Okay, I’ll listen to you," Li Hongjun agreed, realizing she was right. Plus, the wound on his right leg was indeed aching, and he thought it was best to have it checked at the hospital. He was very clear that he could only provide happiness for his wife and support his family when his health was fully restored.

So they went straight to the military hospital and quickly completed the admission procedures.

This time, the doctor taking over Li Hongjun’s case was also a Doctor Wang, but this Doctor Wang was male.

When Doctor Wang came to see him in the ward, Li Hongjun mentioned the pain in the wound on his right leg. Doctor Wang immediately began to unwrap the bandage for inspection.

Shen Yunfang frowned with worry. Because of the poor sanitary conditions on the train, she hadn’t changed Li Hongjun’s dressing. She had asked him if he felt uncomfortable anywhere, and he had always denied it. She hadn’t expected him to lie to her about his wound being painful; she was somewhat angry.

But she also understood that Li Hongjun did it so she wouldn’t worry. Besides, even if he had told her on the train, there was nothing she could do—she wasn’t a doctor and lacked sterile supplies to treat him. If Li Hongjun had spoken up, it would have only served to cause her anxiety.

"The wound is red and swollen on the surface, looks like it’s inflamed. Bear with me for a moment; I need to see if there is any pus inside," Doctor Wang said, upon removing the bandage and observing the inflamed, warm skin around the wound.

He took a small pair of scissors and poked at Li Hongjun’s wound.

Shen Yunfang quickly turned her head away; she couldn’t bear to watch. Just the sight of the doctor with the scissors made her heart wrench.

"There’s pus inside; it’s definitely infected. Here’s what we’ll do: I’ll have a nurse give you an anti-inflammatory injection, and then we’ll observe your condition over the next few days," Doctor Wang instructed.

A young nurse came over to clean Li Hongjun’s wound and rebandage it.

"How long do I need to take the injections? Can I go home tonight?" Li Hongjun was eager to go home and see the kids in the evening.

When Doctor Wang heard that he wanted to go home, he immediately frowned, "Nonsense! With such a severe injury, you should stay in the hospital and recuperate properly. What home are you thinking of going to? Besides, with your wound infected, you may very well develop a fever tonight. You absolutely cannot leave the hospital." In his view, Li Hongjun should not have even traveled from the border to the Capital with his injuries—it was an utterly irrational action.

Seeing Li Hongjun about to argue, Shen Yunfang quickly interjected, "Doctor, don’t listen to him. We’re not going home with him covered in wounds. We will go home once all his injuries are healed."

Dr. Wang left satisfied, as he still needed to return to his office to prescribe anti-inflammatory medication for Li Hongjun.

"Wife, you promised we would go back to see the kids." Li Hongjun was somewhat depressed; he had rushed back because he missed the children, and now he wasn’t allowed to go home. What was the point of all this effort, then?

"Look at you, you’re not even as good as your son," Shen Yunfang scoffed at him, "Alright, stop scowling. Isn’t it just to see the kids? That’s easy. Once your daughter and son get out of school, I’ll pick them up and bring them to see you."

Li Hongjun, although not entirely satisfied, grudgingly accepted this arrangement.

It wasn’t long before a young nurse brought over an IV bag and set it up for Li Hongjun.

Before he had even finished his medication, Li Hongjun was urging her to go home and pick up the children.

Shen Yunfang felt helpless, but then again, she wanted to prepare some nutritious meals for Li Hongjun. Without a trip home, there was no way to get the food to him.

So, she went to notify the nurses to keep an eye on Li Hongjun, and then she took the bus home.

Upon reaching Hongsheng Community, she headed straight to the market to see if there were any fresh vegetables, and today she was in luck. Besides buying persimmons and green beans, she also found two carp and a large rooster. Of course, she had to buy pork as well.

Carrying her purchases, she arrived home and quickly glanced at the living room. Knowing that Ma Liguo had been living with the kids at his place and hadn’t returned, the room was exactly as she had left it.

She didn’t have time to tidy up the house. She put on her apron and started cooking right away in the kitchen.

She had heard that carp soup could help heal wounds, so she planned to make some for dinner. Additionally, carp soup is full of nutrients, rich in protein, low in fat, and easily digestible, making it ideal for Li Hongjun’s current condition.

She wanted the children to eat with Li Hongjun at the hospital tonight, so she also made two dishes that the kids loved, Kung Pao chicken and stir-fried eggs with persimmons. She also stir-fried pork with bitter melon. Because she was short on time, she directly took out a pot of pork trotters stewed with white beans from a space she had prepared earlier. This was one of their family’s favorite dishes. She had made several pots when she had free time and stored them in that space. This was the last pot left.

After packing the meal containers, Shen Yunfang looked at the time and saw it was nearly time for the children to get out of school. She quickly grabbed her things and hurried out.

Just as she left the house, she ran into Aunt Sun from the opposite door on her way up the stairs.

"Oh, isn’t this Yunfang? You’re back. When did you return?" Aunt Sun was surprised to see Shen Yunfang back.

"I just got back this afternoon. Aunt Sun, I can’t stay and chat. I have to go pick up the kids. I’m off now." Shen Yunfang didn’t have the time to dawdle; she missed her children and wanted to see them as soon as possible.

"Hey, Yunfang, don’t go. I forgot to tell you, your father-in-law has come over several times looking for you since you left, and he was just here again this morning." Seeing that Shen Yunfang had reached the second floor, Aunt Sun suddenly remembered and hastily leaned over the stair railing to shout down.

"I know, thank you, Aunt Sun," Shen Yunfang’s voice drifted back from afar.

"Hmph, there’s going to be a good show," Aunt Sun murmured with a face eager to watch the spectacle unfold.
