Who Let Him Cultivate?! (WX)-Chapter 343: A New Use for Illusions
Chapter 343: A New Use for Illusions
With the help of the Unbeatable Golden Core, Lu Yang successfully escaped from the puppet’s clutches. The moment Lu Yang stepped beyond Heaven’s Gate Peak, the puppet halted its pursuit, watching Lu Yang fade into the horizon.
“Thank goodness the puppet can’t descend the mountain.” Lu Yang heaved a sigh of relief. He had long discovered that the puppet’s activities were restricted to a certain area—it couldn’t leave Heaven’s Gate Peak.
“Senior Brother Lu, why are you running so fast? Is there some danger on Heaven’s Gate Peak?” Tao Yaoye’s voice rang out from behind him.
With Big Senior Sister around at Heaven’s Gate Peak, how could there be any danger?
“No-nothing. Just haven’t run in a while, so I was stretching my legs.” Lu Yang cooked up an excuse. There’s no way I’d admit that a puppet was chasing me down. That would be embarrassing.
“Are you free now? I have some new ideas about illusion spells recently and wanted to discuss them with you.”
Lu Yang thought for a moment. Hmm, I indeed have nothing much to do at the moment. “Sure, let’s go to Spotless Peak?”
On their way to Spotless Peak, Lu Yang casually asked, “Junior Sister, what new ideas do you have about illusion spells?”
“The inspiration came from the time you, Senior Brother Meng, and Junior Brother Man fused. All three of you willingly accepted to be affected by my illusion, and it got me thinking—can illusions be used outside of combat?”
“That’s an interesting angle. Go on?”
“The hardest part of casting illusions is making the target succumb to them. In that case, why can’t we reverse our thinking? Are there situations where people would willingly immerse themselves in illusions?”
Lu Yang ruminated over her words. He had never considered this issue before, but he felt that he had vaguely grasped what Tao Yaoye was getting at.
Following her line of thought, he elaborated, “For people to willingly lose themselves in illusions, two conditions must be met: safety and comfort.
“Safety ensures that this is not a method used in combat, which is the bare minimum for reassurance. Comfort is the prerequisite for making the other party willingly accept the illusion.
“The distinctive trait of illusions is immersion. If the target enjoys an experience they can’t get in the real world, they’ll willingly get lost in it.”
“Junior Sister Tao, are you saying that we let them see scenes they usually can’t, such as...” Lu Yang stared at Tao Yaoye in disbelief.
She looks so innocent. Who would have thought she’d come up with something only men think of?
Tao Yaoye nodded elatedly. As expected of the quick-witted Senior Brother Lu. He understood my intention so quickly!
“Yes, we let them see scenes of cultivators fighting!”
Lu Yang, “...”
I’m sorry. I took it the wrong way. I’ll reflect.
Tao Yaoye continued excitedly, “I’m not talking about battles between low-level cultivators; those are common. But battles between Golden Core cultivators are rare! Especially since Golden Core cultivators can fly through the air, with far more abundant spirit energy than Foundation Establishment cultivators, the number of spells they can cast is innumerable. It has amazing watch value!
“Mortals and low-level cultivators don’t get the chance to view battles between cultivators at the Golden Core Stage and above. If we cast illusions to let them witness such fights, they’ll definitely be more than willing!
“Of course, we’re not running a charity. We will be charging them.”
I’m counting on this to make money.
“Right now, what I’m wondering is whether it’d be too abrupt to jump straight into the fight without any context. Should we add some storyline?”
As they spoke, they arrived at the entrance of Tao Yaoye’s cave abode on Spotless Peak.
Tao Yaoye was pumped with energy. “Let me demonstrate. Don’t resist.”
“Alright.”
Tao Yaoye opened her red paper, using it to block herself as she swayed it gently in front of Lu Yang. A wave of dizziness washed over him, and by the time he regained his senses, he found himself amidst an endless range of mountains.
Sensing something, he looked up.
Two figures were standing in the sky, clad in similar outfits. They seemed to be senior and junior brothers.
One of them was weeping, his voice slightly quivering. “Senior Brother, tell me. Why did you have to kill Shifu, your favorite Little Junior Sister, and other senior brothers and sisters? Why?!”
The other person laughed out loud, a dark, sinister energy seeping out from him. “Hahaha! Why? You will have to ask Shifu! And ask yourself!”
“Me?” The junior brother was bewildered.
“I was the first to enter the sect, training assiduously every day with the goal of inheriting Shifu’s legacy one day. Even when other junior brothers and sisters joined later, I paid them no mind. None of them matched my talent!
“But that changed when you arrived and ruined everything! Shifu wanted to pass the position of sect leader to you!
“I demanded an explanation from Shifu, and he said that I was shortsighted and too impatient for immediate success, and that you were the most suited to inherit his legacy!
“I was incensed. Were all my efforts over the years just ‘too impatient for immediate success’ in his eyes? In my rage, I killed him. By chance, Little Junior Sister witnessed what happened and screamed, alerting the others. To silence them, I had no choice but to kill them all!
“Little Junior Brother, now that you know all of this, you must die too! Your cultivation is far inferior to mine. Just surrender!”
Golden mist burst forth from the junior brother, the aura he emitted subtly rivalling that of his senior brother.
Color drained from the senior brother’s face. “How can this be? You’re supposed to be only at the Basic Golden Core Stage! Why are you at the Advanced Golden Core Stage just like I am?!”
The junior brother’s expression grew icy as memories flooded his mind—the sight of bodies littered across the ground upon rushing back to the sect, his shifu transferring all his power to him in his last breath, and his little junior sister falling limp in his arms.
The culprit responsible for all of this must die!
Realization dawned upon the senior brother, and his face twisted into derangement. “I get it now! That old thing gave you all his cultivation! I knew he was biased toward you!”
Having obtained the legacy from his sect and wielding two magical artifacts, the junior brother brandished a pair of scissors in his hands. It transformed into two golden jiao dragons that bared their teeth and claws as they lunged at his senior brother.
A colossal ghost claw emerged from behind the senior brother, crushing down on the two golden jiao dragons.
The junior brother opened a jade bottle, and yellow sand gushed toward his senior brother like a tsunami.
With a shout, the senior brother drew the saber at his waist and split the yellow sand tsunami into two with his saber qi.
The war between the senior and junior brothers broke out. Magical treasures, spells, and stratagems clashed in a dazzling spectacle, making onlookers wish they could join the fray.
Suddenly, the scene changed into a landscape painting, which then became submerged in water. The black ink dissolved away, and everything disappeared.
As Lu Yang regained his senses, he saw Tao Yaoye smiling at him with her red paper umbrella raised.
“Senior Brother Lu, so what do you think? I tried adding some plot. Doesn’t it feel better than just monotone fights?”
Lu Yang was silent for a long time. Waves of complaints crashed into his mind one after another; he didn’t even know where to begin grumbling.
Isn’t this thing just a film?
And one with a holographic simulation at that!
I don’t have to say anything about the fighting scenes. They were undeniably lifelike. The plot was a bit thin, but that doesn’t matter. This is just the beginning. The storytelling can always be more fleshed out later.
If this were in my past life, it would have been overkill. No special effects could compete.
“It’s a good idea.” Lu Yang couldn’t help but marvel.
With some polish, this could make a fortune among the masses!
