Transmigrating from a zombie world to become the mecha kings wife-Chapter 725: The vows.
Chapter 725: The vows.
"And so it begins dear citizens, the long anticipated royal wedding of the century, the first white wedding in the empire."
This was the kind of news on every screen around the empire.
"For those who need a reminder, the wedding is for our most loved crown prince Markay Wu and the crown princess in waiting, Carolyn Su. A brief look into the childhood of the crown prince and crown princess..."
Carolyn’s wedding started off with a highly televised worship ceremony at the temple in the capital city just behind the royal palace. It was named the temple of a thousand steps because you had to climb one thousand steps to reach it.
Alternatively, you could just fly to it like most guests did on this day.
Head monk of all priests in the empire Fion Carlzon personally oversaw the ceremony and led the prayers. Only the couple and the parents were personally involved it.
"Isn’t love beautiful?" a soft female voice whispered in Scarlet mind.
It startled her and she raised her head. It had been so long since she last heard the voice of any deity in her head. This voice was new to her and it also made her realize that her pendant was gone.
She recalled taking it off the previous night and handing it to Esong.
"I am right next to you." The voice said.
She looked to her left and saw Halley twisting her fingers while secretly making faces at Gregor. To her right, Fey had been moved from her position and in her place, a goddess was standing.
With long black hair that fell to her feet, in a light purple floral dress and eyes of deep gold, she was definitely a new face. When Scarlet looked at her, all she could recall was what Nyx said about Tridon kissing her feet. Even her eyes moved down to look at said feet but they were covered up.
"I am Agerta, goddess of marriage." The goddess introduced herself. "And you are the reaper Scarlet, partner of Nyx and wife of Esong, the new kopuko that killed a goddess."
Scarlet raised her brows and maintained silence. All the goddess had done was mentioned everything that she was.
She bowed her head as Fion concluded the prayers and everyone was invited to light some incense and offer flowers to the gods.
Within a short time, they left the temple and changed into new outfits. Carolyn was put in her white wedding dress and the rest of them in their bridesmaids outfits. The whole time, Agerta followed Scarlet silently, all the way to the wedding hall in the royal palace, the venue of the white wedding where they took their places quickly.
Carolyn and Markay stood on the highest step under a halo of two golden suns. The ceiling above them reflected holograms that depicted the symbols of the royal Wu house and noble Su house. Not to be missed were the large wings that stood for mecha warriors. It was included because Markay was a mecha warrior.
In front of the central judge that led the tribunal, they held hands. It was time to be wed in the normal way nobles did.
Esong stood by Markay’s side as his best man while Scarlet stood by Carolyn’s side as the chief bridesmaid. Instead of watching the couple or the judge, they were watching each other.
There was something unexplainable about how they were both feeling in this particular moment. Their hearts were beating even faster than those of the actual bride and groom.
He wanted to marry her again, as soon as possible. His gaze as he watched her was intense and passionate. Maybe it was being this close to a wedding altar which multiplied his affections but he wanted so badly to make her his true wife. The sham of a wedding with the old Scarlet didn’t count anymore.
"Stop looking at me like that." she projected her voice directly into his mind.
He smiled and answered, "You are beautiful, more beautiful than any goddess i have seen and someday, we will stand here and i will make you my wife."
She smiled and lowered her eyes. This wedding was not about them but he was making it exactly that. His eyes, the way they were devouring her and his words, the intensity with which he spoke. All of it was making her shy.
"You know that i love you, right?" he asked. He didn’t wait for a response and he added in a soft voice, "I love you my Susu."
She was so caught up in her own emotions that she almost missed it when Markay started taking his vows.
"Look at me." Esong said to her. His voice was smooth and enticing.
She looked up and raised her eyes to meet his deep dark reddish ones. They were separated by no more than one foot and yet when she looked at him, it felt as if the distance had disappeared and he was right in front of her.
"Repeat after me." the judge told Markay. "I stand here as Crown prince, Markay Wu."
Scarlet couldn’t hear Markay’s vows because Esong’s voice was all she could hear in her mind. He was making vows as well, repeating after the judge. His lips were not moving, and all they had was a smile for her. Only she could hear him.
"I stand here as mecha and reaper warrior Esong Wu, a man of the royal house Wu.
I stand on my own without compulsion and under no duress.
I make a vow to you, Scarlet Su, the one i have chosen as my bride. That from this day going forth i will be your faithful husband.
I give you my title, my name and myself."
Word for word, Esong repeated after the judge as if he was the groom until the judge moved to Carolyn.
"Touch your neck." he told her.
As if she was under a spell, Scarlet’s right hand moved up towards her neck and she felt something. When she looked down, she saw a pendant, not the one Apheitos had given her because this one had a ring. It was a wedding ring, his family ring which belonged to his grandmother Cecily, passed to her by her husband. The original Scarlet had not received this ring and neither had she, all this time.
It should have gone to Emory, but apparently that had not happened as well.
This ring was the physical symbol that he had accepted her fully in every way. It was silly perhaps, but it caused her heart to tremble and brought tears to her eyes.
It wasn’t her big day, it was her sister’s day. Only the bride and groom should have had tears in their eyes as they exchanged their vows and rings. And yet, it was her, the chief bridesmaid that was wiping tears away from her eyes.
To add to her embarrassment, the bride passed her a white lace handkerchief and comforted her, drawing laughter from some of the guests.
She tried to stop the tears but was still emotional so Fey stepped in to help as Carolyn removed the cloak of the Su house and handed it over to Fey that gave it to their father Dorian.
