Transmigrated Into The Body Of The Cursed Prince Wife-Chapter 341: "The baby is coming!"
Chapter 341: "The baby is coming!"
The night was painted in gold and silver, the Pendragon palace basking under the glow of a thousand lanterns, their flickering light dancing like fallen stars caught in the wind. Laughter echoed through the halls, mingling with the soft hum of music and the distant chime of goblets meeting in joyful toasts. Tonight was a night of celebration, not of war or victory, but of something far greater. Love. Hope. And bonding.
This day had been held up for far too long after the family had finally gotten back their once peaceful life. It was the wedding banquet of Princess Thalia and Lord Zane Edgar. The hall was filled with guests and family members who laughed together at the tables.
The Emperor and his wife had been back for a few months now, and in those few months, many things had happened, but due to the joy of having the Empress back, everything was fine again. The first prince had been against the wedding, but when his sister’s pregnancy began to show, he’d had no choice. He wouldn’t have agreed to the wedding had Ave not talked to him.
He respected her too much to be against her will. The wedding banquet was set together with Ave’s pregnancy banquet that had never taken place on that unfaithful day.
The celebration was a success and was still going on through the evening as they celebrated the lantern festival along with the wedding.
And yet, amid the grandeur and revelry, Lucian’s heart was pulled elsewhere.
He found her where the world was quieter, where the scent of night-blooming flowers wrapped around them like a whispered secret. She stood by the open balcony, bathed in the pale glow of the moon, her hands resting gently on the swell of her belly. His child. Their child. A piece of their love growing inside her, waiting to meet the world.
He didn’t have to be told to know what she was thinking as she stood there, away from the others and watching the moon. Ever since the day they had come back to their time and land, his wife’s happiness was half-hearted and not complete. She smiled, but behind her smile, he saw the sorrow and hope. He’d never seen a woman as eager as her to have their child.
She would wake up at night crying or startled awake by nightmares of seeing Ian crying to her or blaming her for ending his life. There were days he worried that it would affect her pregnancy in a negative way. He had wanted to postpone this wedding and banquet, but Zane was too eager to be married. He couldn’t pause their happiness, even though they had been willing to postpone it. Ave had said it was nothing, and she was fine with it.
The day of her return had been one of the ones he would never forget. The sky had shone brighter than it ever had, and the flowers seemed to bloom all around the lands. The air had seemed fresher and cooler that day, and everyone, including the nobles who had shunned her, had come to pay their respect and gratitude.
Though he had been gone for weeks, in Pendragon, it had been a day. Time had not changed from when he was transmigrated to the future to bring her back. He had woken up to find his family weeping as they each hugged his wife.
Sighing softly, Lucian stepped forward to where his wife was now standing on the balcony, his amber eyes drinking her in. "You should be resting, my love," he murmured, his voice softer than the night air as he came to stand behind her.
Ave turned, a knowing smile curving her lips. "And miss the celebration?" She tilted her head, trying to appear all right as always. "Besides, our son seems to like the music and the night breeze. He hasn’t stopped moving all night."
Lucian’s gaze lowered to her belly, his heart tightening at the thought of the little life stirring within her. He didn’t know whether it was wrong that his wife had naturally assumed that it would still be a son, but he hoped with all his heart that Ian would come back to them. Fate could be tricky sometimes—they could end up not having him now. Though he never wanted to consider that, as he didn’t know what would happen if that were to be. He wanted Ian. By God, he wanted that boy so bad he was anxious with each passing day that brought them closer to her due date.
He reached out, his hand finding hers, warm and steady. "Then I suppose he still takes after his mother," he said, brushing a kiss against her knuckles. "Stubborn."
Ave laughed, the sound like a melody only he would ever hear the same way. She leaned into him, their foreheads touching, the world fading until it was just the two of them beneath the moon.
"Is it just me," she whispered, her fingers tracing over his, "or does everything that took place in the future seem like a distant dream now? Every day that goes by makes it feel like it never happened. There are days I can’t remember most of the things there. The only memory that’s vivid to me is the day I remembered you and... Ian." She paused, letting the truth settle between them before looking up at him. "I’m glad fate brought us together again, and I will be so much gladder if we have our son again."
Lucian cupped her face, his thumb brushing over her cheek. "Fate brought me my heart," he whispered against her lips. "And I will spend every lifetime making sure I never lose it again. And if we don’t have Ian now, we will keep having children until we have him again."
Ave exhaled a soft laugh, tears shining in her eyes as she placed his hand over her large belly. "I have a feeling it’s Ian. Every time I say the name, he always kicks or moves in some way. Can you feel it?"
Lucian bent down so his lips were at the same level as her belly. He ran his hand over it and tenderly called out, "Ian?" He then put his ear against it. There was no unusual movement. In fact, his son, who liked to kick when hearing his voice, made no movement. But to make his wife happy, he pretended to hear something and looked up at her with frightened surprise.
"I can hear it!" he lied.
Ave pursed her lips as she looked down at her husband. She scoffed and hit his head away from her belly. "You don’t have to pretend. I am the one carrying him, and if he makes any movement, I will feel it before you do. The music has stopped inside the hall. He must be asleep and—ouch!!" She exclaimed as she gripped her belly and held the railing behind her for balance.
Lucian paled as he noticed her pained expression. He got up to his feet and examined her panickedly. "What’s wrong, my love? Is the baby kicking hard again? Did he hit your ribs? Is your back aching?!" He rushed out all the questions, as they were the common things she suffered from lately.
There were days he would believe she was in labor as she was coming to the end dates, but it would end up that their child was only being mischievous in the womb. He would kick her in ways that would make her lose her balance at times. She had begun to walk with so much difficulty that Lucian made sure he wasn’t far away from where she was.
From what she told him, this pregnancy was harder than when she first had Ian in the future. He didn’t give her so much trouble then, and now that he did, they figured out it was because he would be born with a curse like his father’s. He would not be a mere human here this time. There were days she craved uncooked meat, and he knew it wasn’t her but the child she carried, so he would have to make sure it was steamed a little before she ate it.
Many times, she would react like this and grab either her back or belly, and because it had happened frequently, he had stopped thinking it was time. However, it seemed it was different this time around.
She grabbed a handful of his hair and groaned, "The baby is coming!"
