The Reborn Sidekick Rejected The Male Lead-Chapter 352 - 342: Met Dad
Chapter 352: Chapter 342: Met Dad
Since it was still early, the couple rested on the second floor.
Lu Jingqiu slept soundly and didn’t wake up until after three o’clock. Realizing there was no one beside her, she quickly went downstairs to look for people.
That’s when she discovered Jiang Nanzhou had already been busy in the kitchen.
"Husband."
"You’re awake? I’ve cooled some hot water for you on the table, just right, go drink some."
"Mm, when is Dad coming back?"
Jiang Nanzhou glanced at the time, "Not sure, but you can give him a call now. His office number is next to the phone."
Jingqiu hurried to her father’s study and, with some excitement, dialed the number. It rang twice before a voice came from the other end.
"Hello, who’s this?"
"Dad, it’s me. I’ve already arrived home, when are you coming back?"
"Qiuqiu, you’re back. How is the house arranged? Are you satisfied?"
"Yes, it’s very comfortable. Dad, Nanzhou and I have started cooking, so come back early."
"Mm, Dad will be back around five o’clock, don’t make too much, just what you like is fine."
"Okay."
After hanging up the phone, Lu Jingqiu went to the kitchen to help Nanzhou.
Jiang Nanzhou had already started stewing the chicken, planning to make chicken soup, peanuts, shredded pork with mushrooms, and then rice noodles in chicken broth.
Of course, it was still early, so after they set the chicken to stew, they came out.
Jiang Nanzhou took her for a walk nearby. At this time, most people had gone to work, and not many were around, though there were quite a few children on holiday. They didn’t dare to go far since the fire was still on.
Lu Jingqiu didn’t really want to go outside either, as it was too cold. She preferred the warmth inside the house with the heating on.
Jingqiu was enviously comfortable, saying, "The most comfortable thing about this place is having heating in winter. Once inside, it feels like spring."
Compared to the South, Jingqiu actually preferred the North because she loved snow.
"Then husband, work hard, and we’ll try to be posted in Capital City as much as possible."
"No need for that. Wherever you need to shine, I’ll just follow you there. Anywhere with you is comfortable for me."
The two were together, sweet-talking each other now and then. Thankfully, the elders weren’t around, otherwise, it would have been awkward.
Around five-thirty or so, Lu Xianrun came back.
Seeing his daughter, even he almost had tears in his eyes. It had been half a year since he had seen his beloved daughter, and he missed her.
Unfortunately, the journey was too long, and even on his days off, he couldn’t return.
"Qiuqiu, you’ve lost weight."
"Dad, I haven’t lost weight at all. I’ve actually gained two pounds. But look at you, without me by your side, you’ve lost more than just a pound or two. It’s very noticeable."
Lu Xianrun laughed, "Don’t think that I’ve lost weight, but Dad’s body has become stronger. If you don’t believe me, ask Nanzhou. He’s only been here for a few months, and I haven’t gotten sick once."
Jingqiu didn’t believe it.
Lu Xianrun stepped back and looked at his daughter, "How’s my grandchild doing? Did the doctor say they are healthy?"
"Yes, they’re developing very well. I’m over four months pregnant now, and the doctor said I should eat normally, no need for heavy supplements."
Lu Xianrun commented, "That’s right, our living conditions are much better than many others. If the doctor says no to heavy supplements, then don’t. As long as the child is healthy. When you’re by yourself over there, eat whatever you want, no need to hold back."
"Dad, when have I ever been stingy with food? Your son-in-law has handed over the financial control to me; now I run the household."
This conversation caused the two men to laugh heartily, creating a very cheerful family atmosphere.
Sitting at the dining table, Dad even took out half a bottle of wine, and together with Nanzhou, they enjoyed small drinks while listening to Lu Jingqiu talk about the events in West City.
She mentioned that she and her best friend had opened a shop, made a lot of money, also shared that she had published a picture book this year, which sold quite well, and talked about an art competition that the school was planning for next year, which she was preparing to enter.
Even though these were all trivial matters, Lu Xianrun just wanted to hear about them.
Isn’t what one desires in life to see good performance from the children in both work and day-to-day life?
The previous worries and yearnings turned into joyful laughter amidst the daughter’s chatter.
That night, both men drank until they were somewhat tipsy.
Fortunately, neither was drunk. Jiang Nanzhou was even able to tidy up the kitchen with a flushed face, a performance at his father-in-law’s house that made Lu Jingqiu feel somewhat embarrassed.
She boiled water herself, washed her father’s feet, and watched him fall asleep, then hurriedly brought a basin of water for her husband to soak his feet.
"You don’t need to do these things, what if you get tired?"
"I’m not tired, I’m very happy to see you all. You and Dad drank a bit too much today, soak your feet and lie down quickly. I’m going to prepare some hot water for Dad to put on the bedside."
"Be careful when you go downstairs."
"Mhm."
Lu Jingqiu prepared two thermoses of hot water, easing a pot next to her dad’s bed silently, and poured a cup to cool at the bedside, so that if he wanted water in the middle of the night, he could mix in some hot water to make it lukewarm.
She prepared everything similarly for Jiang Nanzhou upstairs.
After Jiang Nanzhou washed his feet, he went to pour out the footbath water and nearly fell over in his dizziness, which almost resulted in Lu Jingqiu getting pulled off-balance as well.
Scared, Jiang Nanzhou shivered and sobered up quite a bit, "Qiuqiu, you scared me to death. Next time I’m drunk, just leave me be."
"If I leave you, what if you fall? I’m being careful here."
Jiang Nanzhou pulled her into bed hurriedly and wrapped his arms around her. After a while, he suddenly asked in puzzlement, "Won’t my breath from drinking harm the baby?"
Lu Jingqiu chuckled, "Maybe we should go to a bookstore to see if there are any books about pregnancy, and buy you a few to study."
Jiang Nanzhou thought it over and agreed, "That’s necessary."
The couple then foolishly laughed together, feeling a bit silly.
This simple happiness was something Lu Jingqiu cherished deeply.
That night, with a sweet smile, she slept peacefully in her husband’s embrace.
When the whistle sounded in the morning, she heard it and also noticed Nanzhou quietly getting dressed.
Squinting her eyes, she muttered, "Men are just so energetic, drinking last night and still able to wake up this early."
But she truly didn’t want to leave the warmth of the bed.
She fell back into a deep sleep, and when she woke up, Dad had already gone to work, leaving Nanzhou downstairs cleaning.
As Lu Jingqiu ate her meal, she watched her husband buzzing about like a busy bee.
"Honey, are we spending this New Year with Dad, or with Grandpa?"
Jiang Nanzhou was also torn: Grandpa barely saw them all year and was looking forward to spending New Year’s together for a reunion dinner.
So did Dad.
Lu Jingqiu wanted to spend New Year’s with Dad too, but after thinking it over, she said, "Dad will definitely be busy during New Year’s, so let’s spend the day with Grandpa, accompany him to meet his old friends on the first day of the New Year, and then come see Dad on the second day and stay with him for a few days. How about going to see my mother-in-law on the fifth day?"
"Mhm, no rush, I’ll ask both sides about their plans first. We have plenty of time, we’ll fit our schedule around what the elders have planned."
"Yeah, fine, you arrange it."
