The Humble Family's Daughter Has A Spatial Pocket!-Chapter 862 - 751, The Ugly Daughter-in-law Meets the In-laws
Chapter 862: Chapter 751, The Ugly Daughter-in-law Meets the In-laws
On the first day of June, just after the hour of Si (9:00 AM), a succession of carriages began to arrive at the entrance of Prince Residence.
In the past, when a banquet was hosted by Prince Residence, to avoid being looked down upon, Madam Ma would personally oversee almost every aspect of the preparation and demand perfection. Yet today, as the guests arrived, she was leisurely dressing and applying makeup.
Madam Ma sat with an unappealing expression while a maid did her hair, feeling extremely irritated.
Last time, at the Dragon Boat Festival banquet in the palace, the emperor did not allow the girl from the Yan Family to offer her a cup of tea, causing her to lose face in public. Now, a banquet was being organized at Prince Residence, and she was blatantly bypassed, with the chief historian put in charge—a clear slap in her face.
Luo Qiong, the wife of Xiao Yechen, grew tired of waiting for her mother-in-law and proceeded to the main hall. Upon entering, she saw her mother-in-law wearing a sullen expression, utterly lacking her usual frail and graceful demeanor in front of her father-in-law.
Seeing this, Luo Qiong quickly lowered her eyes, concealing the scorn within them.
She had little respect for her mother-in-law.
Even though she had been promoted to the main wife, it did not change the fact that she had given birth before their marriage; moreover, her mother-in-law’s tactics in winning her father-in-law’s favor were somewhat unbearable to watch: affected and contrived, she behaved entirely like a concubine.
"Mother-in-law, the guests have arrived."
Seeing Madam Ma fussy over choosing hairpins, Luo Qiong felt compelled to gently remind her.
Madam Ma glanced sideways at her daughter-in-law. Though the daughter-in-law came from the prestigious Duke Residence and had a good family background, she was a bit too rigid and serious, which made her boring.
If it wasn’t for the need of Duke Residence’s support for her son’s smooth ascension in the future, she wouldn’t bother giving her a second look.
"Let them come. Have them drink tea in the courtyard," she responded carelessly.
Upon hearing this, Luo Qiong frowned slightly. Although she disagreed, she didn’t say anything else; however, she inwardly sneered, thinking how her mother-in-law, despite being the main wife, lacked the openness and vision of one.
She was taking out her anger on the guests, which was utterly foolish!
If the banquet went poorly, people wouldn’t blame Xiao Yeyang; they would blame her, the Princess Consort. Even if previous banquets were well-received, a single failure would give outsiders plenty to talk about.
"Mother-in-law, I’ll go ahead and attend to the guests in the courtyard."
Madam Ma gave a nonchalant ’hmm’ and continued to change her hairpins. By the time she was ready, it was already half an hour later.
Today, many were in attendance at Prince Residence: some out of respect for the emperor, some for Prince Xiao, and others who saw potential in Xiao Yeyang.
In the courtyard of Prince Residence, knowing that Madam Ma was not in the best of spirits today, the various Madams and young ladies wisely didn’t flock to her but instead gathered in small groups, admiring the scenery of Prince Residence.
Not until the hour of Wu (11:00 AM) did Yan Family’s carriage finally arrive at the gates of Prince Residence.
"Today is Yeyang’s capping ceremony. If... if Madam Ma tries to make things difficult for you, try to endure it if you can. Don’t cause a scene, or else it will be the entire Prince Residence that loses face."
Before getting off the carriage, Madam Li instructed Daohua with concern.
Daohua smiled and replied, "Mother, I know how to behave." With that, she opened the door and stepped off the carriage.
Standing on the ground, the sudden ’thud’ of a little stone hitting near her foot caused Daohua to turn around and see a carriage parked across the street. Chu Lang was leaning casually against the carriage, arms folded across his chest.
Looking around, Daohua pointed at herself with a question. Seeing Chu Lang nod, she pondered for a moment, exchanged a few words with Madam Li, and then hurriedly crossed the street.
"That girl is coming over!"
Chu Lang knocked on the carriage door and informed Guo Ruomei inside.
In the carriage, Guo Ruomei gently touched the hairpin she made herself, her expression somewhat bleak.
Her son was being capped, yet she, as his mother, could not attend the ceremony!
"Hero, were you looking for me?"
Hearing Daohua’s address, a few spasms tugged at Chu Lang’s mouth. "Ah...it’s been many years since I gave up being a hero. You should call me... Uncle Chu."
Daohua laughed, "Would that be appropriate? I think I’ll keep calling you Hero Chu. Anyway, thank you for last time." She glanced at the carriage, "Did you want to see me for something?"
Just then, the curtains of the carriage were lifted.
Seeing Guo Ruomei smiling at her, and then thinking of Xiao Yeyang’s displeasure with Chu Lang, Daohua’s eyes flickered. Her mouth fell open slightly as she saw Mei Xue and Mei Shuang sitting beside Guo Ruomei and her eyes widened in shock.
Could it be as she suspected?
The person living in the Wuhua Mountain villa was Xiao Yeyang’s mother?
