The Gigolo System in the Academy of Magic-Chapter 45: Level 4 Mage
Chapter 45 - Level 4 Mage ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"What's going on here?!"
Feeling the powerful aura of a level 4 mage, everyone quickly calmed down. The surrounding students all began to whisper. Many of them recognized this new figure.
Gale Hawthorne. The young master of the Hawthorne noble family. The one behind this establishment.
The Hawthorne family was one of the thirteen noble houses, and Gale was their rising star. With his clean, sharply cut brown hair, aristocratic posture, and an expensive mana-conducting robe gleaming with rune-etched silver thread, Gale looked like the very embodiment of noble privilege.
Gorran still had the people tied up in his magic vines, but he no longer attacked them. Instead he retreated back slightly, and began to replenish his energy. Meanwhile the other demons had also calmed down. The red light in their eyes was gone and instead replaced with confusion.
They quickly surrounded Gorran with a defensive posture.
The other students didn't care about their actions. Now that they had some powerful support they all began to complain loudly.
"The demons attacked us!"
"Yes, it's their fault! They don't respect the academy or the Hawthorn House."
"These demons are all the same, a bunch of belligerent beasts!"
At this time the other demons had calmed down, the red light in their eyes was gone and instead there was some confusion.
They retreated back to Gorran's side.
Gale listened to the crowd's complaints while looking arrogantly at the group of demons. Behind him there were also a few other third years, though they were all level 3 mages. That was already more powerful than everyone else here. But even if all these third level mages banded together they probably wouldn't be able to defeat Gale.
While low mages could still fight against each other even with level differences, the higher the strength of a mage the greater the difference between each level. The difference between a level 3 mage and a level 4 mage is astronomical, because they have already crossed the dangerous barrier between a low-level mage and a mid-level mage, transforming their liquid mana into a mana crystal.
Spells could be cast much quicker and with much less mana. The two levels were not comparable at all.
James was particularly wary of Gale Hawthorne. Not just because a mid level mage was dangerous, but also because he remembered the strange and powerful skill that Ryan Everheart had shown during the competition. He wasn't sure if that was a bloodline power or a special magical artefact, but he was wary that Gale would also have something similar.
If that happened things would quickly get out of hand.
James still pretended to be drunk and leaned on the woman beside him. He had no intention of joining the demons openly at this time.
At this time, because Gorran had stopped attacking, the magic vines that were holding the magic students slowly disappeared and the trapped mages quickly escaped.
The blonde haired man who had started the whole fight, quickly rushed to Gale's side and began to complain, "These demons went berserk, just like the beasts they are. Master Gale, you must give us justice! They could have killed us!"
A large demon stepped forward, his single horn gleaming under the lights. "Stop lying, you were the one who provoked us!"
The word wasn't shouted.
It was spoken, almost conversationally. But with it came a blast of magic that hit the horned demon like a hammer. The difference between a low-level mage and a mid-level mage was too large, the demon instantly crumpled to the ground.
There was the sound of bones breaking, and the single horned demon fell down unconscious, blood leaking from his nose.
Everyone was a little stunned. They didn't expect the young master of the Hawthorn House to be so decisive!
The young master, Gale Hawthorne, looked at the shocked faces of the students with some pride. He had his arms behind his back and his nose tilted up, "The Noble Houses have been kind enough to let you demons into the human realm, and this is how you behave?"
"We had already warned everyone that the demons are violent uncivilised beasts, and should never be accepted into the academy..." Gale shook his head and put on a play for the other students.
James was thoughtful. He knew that there were many factions within the Council of Thirteen Noble Houses, and some supported reconciliation with the demons while others didn't. He didn't know before, but he was fairly certain now that the Hawthorn House must be in the 'anti-demon' faction.
So they are allies with the Everhearts?
James wasn't sure, but at least on this issue, they seemed to be singing the same tune.
He glanced at Gorran who had bent down to check on the fallen demon. Although he knew Gorran was a smart person, he obviously couldn't deal with his companion being beaten like this.
In a loud rage he rushed toward Gale.
Gale raised a hand casually, but another of the third-year students stepped forward first, cracking his knuckles. "Let me, Gale. He's not worth your time."
A level 3 mage, with a confident expression, walked out, armed with a fire-type spell matrix already glowing between his fingers.
Gorran met him head-on.
The fight was brutal and fast. The third-year mage was quick, with fire blasts burning towards Gorran's arms and chest in quick succession. Gorran was constantly pushed backwards. Although his stone armour could deflect and nullify most magical spells, he was already running low on mana.
The stone kept crumbling off of his body, while the runic tattoos gleamed with a red light. But every time he was pushed down he kept getting up.
Slowly the fight turned into a strange stalemate, but Gorran's aura was constantly decreasing.
Just when everyone thought the human mage was going to win in a battle of attrition, suddenly Gorran burst forth with energy.
The floor beneath him gave way as raw energy exploded outward. The air turned heavy. The faint crackle of power rippled through the room.
"He's breaking through—!" someone shouted.
The third-year stumbled back, eyes wide.
Gorran's body trembled violently, cracks of golden energy running across his arms. The wounds on his body sizzled and closed. His veins glowed. His skin began to turn from a rocky texture into obsidian and gleamed like metal.
A Level 2 mage.
All though, a level 2 mage was not a big deal. It was the first time the human students had seen someone break through in a fight before.
