Chapter 229: Chapter 175: Reactions from All Sides, Mile Returns to the Mountain

The predictions of the Heaven and Earth Taoist indeed came true. As the body of Pangu disappeared beneath Mount Buzhou, the great powers from all directions fell into disarray. However, at the same time, a new problem arose. Is this Pangu, or is it not Pangu?

East Kunlun, Three Pure Ones Hall.

"Tongtian, could it be that our senses were mistaken?" Tongtian’s eyes flickered, his pupils shifting with images flowing marvelously within them. The death of the Old Turtle, the Heaven and Earth Taoist, the Twelve Ancestor Witches, and those twelve Degree-Heaven Salvation God Slaughter Banners, each appeared one after another in his pupils.

Though he is in East Kunlun, his eyes seem to cross the barrier of space, as if he could see Mount Buzhou a thousand miles away! The abilities of a Saint are truly terrifying.

Laozi had a calm expression, his brow furrowed as he calculated for a long time before sighing and saying, "I thought it was the rebirth of Father God, but it turns out that it was the Twelve Ancestor Witches who summoned the consciousness of Father God’s flesh using their own essence blood and those twelve pitch-black banners. This is not Pangu alive, nor the revival of Father God! Alas!"

Primordial gazed toward Mount Buzhou and said, "This disciple Qingming is quite remarkable. He managed to research and develop such a grand formation. It seems we are far from matching Qingmingzi’s long-term calculations!"

Hearing this, both Laozi and Tongtian remained silent. This Qingmingzi’s Evil Corpse Heaven and Earth Taoist, secretly lurked among the Witch Tribe. Only the Three Pure Ones among the Saints were aware of this matter. Initially, Laozi and his brothers were somewhat concerned about Li Qingming getting involved between the Witch and Demon Clans. But now it seems, with Li Qingming setting up the Celestial Stars Formation and creating the Twelve Duterrestrial God Evil Array, he has kept the Witch and Demon Clans in a strange balance. Indeed, it can be considered unparalleled scheming!

Chaos Outer Heaven, Nuwa Palace.

Di Jun and Taiyi stood respectfully within the palace, silently observing Lady Nuwa who sat on the phoenix throne.

After a long while, with lips slightly parted in her pink palace attire, Nuwa said, "The two of you can rest assured. The Pangu God from before was merely a consciousness body summoned by the Witch Tribe using secret techniques, not the resurrection of the Great Pangu God! What’s most crucial now is to quickly eliminate this calamity of the Four Seas, otherwise our Demon Race will be in peril!"

Di Jun and Taiyi looked at each other, relieved as they exhaled deeply and said, "Lady Nuwa’s words are most true. I have already arranged for fellow Daoist Kunpeng to carry heavy gifts to the domain of the Witch Tribe to discuss matters of cooperation. Now that the Four Seas have completely offended the Witch Tribe and have even killed the spokespersons of the Four Seas. I believe that fellow Daoist Kunpeng has a ninety-nine percent chance of success in his mission!"

Nuwa nodded slightly, a mysterious glint flashing in her eyes.

Western Sumeru Mountain, Great Leiyin Temple.

"Hahaha, after all, an illusion is not Pangu!" Seeing Pangu dissipate, a relieved Zhunti laughed heartily, oblivious to the worry hidden in the eyes of his fellow senior brother Jieyin.

In Jieyin’s view, although the Pangu before seemed to be muddleheaded and devoid of consciousness, the last axe he swung, with the aura of destroying heaven and earth, the overwhelming momentum as if to cut through the void, indeed resembled the era when Pangu split the heavens. This caused waves of unease in Jieyin’s heart.

"I knew it, it’s time for the rise of our Buddhism, not even the Great Pangu God could stand in the way!" Underneath the Bodhi Tree, Zhunti kept chattering non-stop, without the slightest composure of a victor.

"Brother, has our disciple Maitreya not returned yet?" Annoyed, Jieyin hastily changed the subject. His brother was good in all aspects except that he was too glib and talked too much.

"Eh? That’s true! The Demon Court’s Heavenly Wedding Ceremony concluded several days ago; why hasn’t Maitreya returned yet? Could it be that the Heavenly Court has retained the guests to discuss the Tao and corroborate their learnings?" The moment Zhunti heard this, he was visibly startled, then as if remembering something, spoke out.

"It must be so!" Jieyin nodded and said, "Disciple Maitreya has a gentle nature, he’s always smiling at everyone, he should not have attracted any trouble!"

These two tragic figures had no idea that Maitreya first committed a faux pas due to his ignorance of etiquette, angering a guest from Zixiao Palace of the past, and then, because of them as the Two Saints, offended all other Saints and Primordial Great Powers, being alive to return was already fortunate.

Coincidentally, just as the Western Two Saints started discussing Maitreya. With a livid face, full of stubble on his cheeks, and wearing tattered clothes, Maitreya staggered in flying from down the mountain.

The disciple of Jieyin guarding the Eight Treasures Merit Pool, Medicine Buddha, looked at the arrived Maitreya with a puzzled face and said, "Who is this rash Daoist, dressed so indecently, profaning the sacred arena of my master Saint? Where are the Eighteen Arhats?"

"Brother, it’s me, Maitreya! I am Maitreya!" Upon seeing Medicine Buddha, Maitreya immediately fell to the ground and burst into howls of tears.

Medicine Buddha was shocked, and upon helping Maitreya up for a closer inspection, after a while, he realized and said, "Disciple, did you not go on behalf of Master and Uncle to attend the Heavenly Marriage Holy Ceremony in the Heavenly Court? How did you become so disheveled?"

Maitreya’s heart was filled with indescribable bitterness, yet when the words reached his lips, he found himself unable to express them. Consequently, he said, "Elder Brother, let’s first go pay respects to our Master and Elder Master. You’ll understand everything then!"

One after the other, the two entered the Eight Treasures Merit Pool and reached the vicinity of the Bodhi Tree. Maitreya fell to the ground in prostration and said, "Disciple Maitreya has failed the heavy trust of Elder Master and Master, not only causing our Western Teachings to lose face but also letting down the majestic authority of Elder Master and Master. I plead for Elder Master and Master to punish me!"

"Hmm?"

Zhunti and Jieyin were deep in conversation, thoroughly engaged, when suddenly they saw the Medicine Buddha leading a plump man who looked like a disciple of the Buddhist Sect from not far off. They didn’t pay much attention at the moment. Unexpectedly, this plump man turned out to be Maitreya!

"Maitreya, tell me what exactly happened!" Upon hearing Maitreya’s words, Zhunti was first startled, then frowned and asked.

"Yes, Master!" Maitreya paused, organized his thoughts, and with a mix of snot and tears, continued, "On that day, following the orders of Elder Master and Master, I hurried to the Heavenly Court to attend the Heavenly Wedding Ceremony..."

As Maitreya recounted his tale, Zhunti and Jieyin’s complexions alternated between green and white, and their eyes flashed with extremely complex emotions—regret, guilt, annoyance, humiliation...

"Just like that, Donghuang Taiyi drove me out of the Heavenly Wedding Ceremony. I was too ashamed to make a sound, but there was nothing I could do. I could only think of hastening back to our Western Great Leiyin Temple!" By the end of his story, Maitreya was simply a man made of tears. The sight was soheart-rending, it would make any onlooker feel heartbroken and any who heard, weep.

"But my fellow disciple, how did you end up in such a sorry state?" Hearing this, the Medicine Buddha once again sized up Maitreya from head to toe. He saw Maitreya’s kasaya torn and tattered, his exposed skin blackened and filthy, his dense beard and moustache about an inch long in disarray. Moreover, his cultivation of mana, which was previously at the Late Stage of a Daluo Golden Immortal, had now dropped to the Early Stage. What kind of suffering had he endured?

On hearing the Medicine Buddha’s words, a dazzling hatred suddenly erupted in Maitreya’s eyes. He then vividly recounted what happened next:

It turned out that after descending from the Heavenly Court that day, Maitreya’s heart was filled with pent-up frustration. Planning to enjoy the scenery of the Eastern Land and maybe enlighten some beings of destiny along the way, he journeyed unhindered until reaching the Huai River Basin.

At that moment, shockingly near where the Huai River rushes into the East Sea, a multi-colored radiance exploded to the height of dozens of feet. The depression in Maitreya’s heart was greatly relieved, and he joyously headed towards the direction of the East Sea.

By the time Maitreya reached the East Sea, the towering radiance had already completely withdrawn. What he saw was a seven-foot-tall white monkey, hovering above the East Sea, holding a strangely shaped steel pitchfork in its hand.

Maitreya instantly understood that the multi-colored radiance must have been from that strange steel pitchfork. He immediately shouted, "Hey, you monkey, that pitchfork is a lost possession of this poor monk, return it to me at once!"

The monkey caressed the steel pitchfork in his hand, baring his teeth and sneering at Maitreya, "What nonsense, monk! This pitchfork was clearly found by me first. What claims are you making? Do you think you can bully me just because you wish to?"

Maitreya was already simmering with rage after being driven down from the Heavenly Court by Taiyi. Now, this petty Heavenly Immortal dared to show such insolence, and his long-suppressed fury erupted instantly, "You filthy beast, it seems you are tired of living in the presence of this Buddha!"

With those words, Maitreya’s aura surged forth powerfully. An immense pressure bore down directly on the monkey across from him, stirring up ripples with the overwhelming spiritual energy.

Really, when you think about it, does a Daluo Golden Immortal need so many tricks to deal with a mere Heavenly Immortal?

Under this massive pressure, the monkey appeared to be mired in mud. Struggling to shrug its shoulders, it glanced at Maitreya strangely. Suddenly, from beneath the monkey, a water dragon entirely formed of deep blue sea water emerged. The Water Dragon opened its massive mouth and swallowed the monkey whole, then vanished into the sea without a trace.

Maitreya was stunned, his face turned beet red. A mere Heavenly Immortal had slipped away right under his nose; how could Maitreya not be furious?

"Beast, don’t think you can escape the palm of this Buddha!" Maitreya bellowed, and a flash of golden light appeared in his hand. A luxurious copper mirror materialized in his grasp. Maitreya’s seal techniques moved quickly, and he softly chanted, "Each flower a world, the Qiankun lays bare the tracks! Appear!"

Golden radiance enveloped Maitreya’s hand and lightly brushed the mirror. The mirror, initially clear enough to reflect one’s image, began to grow hazy. Soon, deep blue sea water appeared within the mirror. The scene shifted until the image of a snow-white monkey, swimming as freely as a fish in the water and clutching a gleaming steel pitchfork, emerged. It was unmistakably the same monkey that had just dived into the water!

Maitreya, standing above the East Sea, sneered coldly, "Had you obediently handed over the pitchfork to this Buddha from the start, you could have followed me back to the West and attained true enlightenment! Seeing your defiance now, you might as well forfeit your life!"

With a single hand motion, the monkey’s figure inside the mirror paused, seemingly lifted by an invisible hand, and was leisurely brought to the surface of the East Sea.

Maitreya sneered with a ferocious look, "Die, monkey. Today, this Buddha will extinguish you!" (To be continued.
