The Elf Journey In The Western Fantasy World-Chapter 81: A Flower’s Dignity (and Its Price)
Chapter 81: A Flower’s Dignity (and Its Price)
Swallowing down a mouthful of metaphorical blood, Juwon could only go along with the elf’s words. With a shocked expression (though, as a plant, his face couldn’t actually show such complexity), he said,
"Really? I really helped a lot?"
Hearing that, Ke’Oth quickly shifted from being a mere spectator to an active participant.
As one of the top figures in the demon race, he certainly understood the deeper meaning behind putting on a show. He didn’t think there was anything wrong with using such a hypocritical trick to fool a flower.
Demons never had integrity in the first place, right?
Ke’Oth put on a deeply touched expression.
"Really? Ice Flower, you’ve agreed? Thank you so much. You know, everything I try to grow ends up dying. The fact that you can survive in my care is already a miracle. And now you’ve even agreed to attend the first-ever Demon Plant Appreciation Festival—this solves a huge crisis for me. I honestly don’t know how to thank you."
Juwon: "..."
We’re both old foxes—what’s the point of pretending otherwise?
Don’t think he couldn’t tell that this infuriating demon was just going through the motions. If you’re going to act, at least put some effort into changing your tone! It was so flat he could barely tolerate it.
Even flowers have dignity!
Juwon stubbornly chose not to respond.
Not getting a reply didn’t faze Ke’Oth in the slightest. He didn’t even feel awkward. Still smiling, he said, "Since Ice Flower has been so generous, I can’t let him work for nothing. After the festival, I’ll plant you in the finest spiritual soil, water you with the purest spiritual spring, and provide you with the best living conditions in the entire demon realm. You’ll be surrounded by cold air 24/7 and never have to worry about a lack of ice elements again."
"And when you successfully transform into your human form, you’ll become one of my honored guests, with gold and resources at your disposal."
Juwo was so overwhelmed by the mountain of promised benefits that his mind went blank. He didn’t even catch the conditions attached to those promises. Or maybe he did—but he didn’t care.
This time, Juwon didn’t hesitate at all and responded immediately, "Ice Flower is the most helpful flower in the world!!!"
He was wrong. He was just a little flower. What would a little flower know? A little flower doesn’t need dignity!
Sometimes, dignity really isn’t worth much.
And so, a demon and a flower successfully reached an agreement, even taking the precaution of making a vow under the witness of heaven and earth.
With the oath made, a vague bond formed between Illiya and Ke’Oth.
Illiya found it all rather novel. He shook his leaves and gleefully bragged to the system in his heart.
[ Hahahaha, system, look! I found myself a long-term meal ticket. All I have to do is attend one little demon festival, and I get all these benefits. It’s totally worth it! ]
The system had absolutely no desire to respond to this foolish host.
It was beginning to question its own choices. How could it have ever believed that someone with such a low IQ could help it break performance records?
Forget reaching new heights. At this point, it would be grateful just to avoid coming in dead last.
Seeing how blissfully content Juwon looked, the system couldn’t help but mock him.
[ I’ve guided so many hosts over the years, but I’ve never seen anyone as dumb as you. You’ve been sold and you’re still helping count the money! ]
Juwon didn’t care about the system’s sarcasm. In fact, he was even more delighted.
[ System, you’re just jealous. Jealous that I get money without having to work. That’s what this is—you’re jealous of me! ]
The system was so furious at that response it nearly short-circuited.
It couldn’t comprehend how someone could sell themselves off so easily and still be this happy. Was it the one who failed to understand the human brain?
[ Forget it. Let the world be destroyed. Goodbye, trash host. If it talks to you one more time, it’s a total idiot! ]
As a mischievous and dark-humored elf, Illiya certainly didn’t miss out on the rich inner drama of the Ice Flower. He had also overheard the conversation between the Ice Flower and that unknown presence—although he could only hear the Ice Flower’s side. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
There was no need to guess. That unknown entity was clearly furious after everything the Ice Flower had done.
The smile on Illiya’s face suddenly became much more genuine.
He shook his head and looked at the Ice Flower, whose leaves were trembling nonstop, and decided that the poor thing was still too inexperienced.
Friend, do you really think you’ll have a chance to leave once you’ve entered the Demon Realm?
How naïve—how hopelessly naïve.
But did Illiya intend to warn the Ice Flower?
Of course not. In fact, he was quite happy to see how things would unfold.
The other people present, who had been silently watching everything without saying a word, shared the exact same attitude as Illiya.
Sometimes, people just need to experience a brutal lesson from society. And flowers... are no exception.
The corners of Illiya’s lips curled upward once again, this time with an extra hint of amusement.
As if he was holding a grudge just because the Ice Flower labeled him a "beauty."
An elf would never do such petty things.
The matter of the plant was considered resolved after the Ice Flower made its pact with Ke’Oth.
After carefully transplanting the Ice Flower into a specially designed flowerpot, Ke’Oth finally remembered something he still didn’t understand.
Just as he was about to speak, his companion beat him to it.
N’zall asked, "Right, what’s the thing you wanted our help with? Say it up front—we’re not doing anything that involves betraying the Demon King. Other than that, we can talk."
After saying this, N’zall looked very tense, afraid they’d suggest something completely unacceptable to demons.
