Chapter 75: The Ice Flower and the Demon Gardener

"Anyway, I still don’t understand why the Ice Flower thinks it needs sunlight and has an extreme aversion to being planted in ice."

"Maybe this Ice Flower has a particularly unique personality," Illiya added with a smile, withholding the truth. He wouldn’t look like a fool and tell everyone that this Ice Flower was not a flower at all, but a person.

If it weren’t for his own eyes seeing it, he wouldn’t have believed it either.

Help, why does the fantasy novel his teacher read come true in real life?

It seemed better to burn those secret novels his teachers kept hidden.

He certainly didn’t want to encounter a person who could make up after having their heart and kidneys ripped out.

Illiya took a deep breath, suppressing his bad premonition. He silently prayed to himself: Don’t worry, most people in the world are normal. It’s unlikely that anyone will meet such a troublesome human or some other kind of race.

After reassuring himself, Illiya shifted his attention back to the plant.

"Anyway, this Ice Flower is quite special. In a certain way, its vitality is really strong."

Ke’Oth asked, "How so?"

Illiya gave a subtle smile, "Ice Flower as the name suggests, it should grow in extremely cold places. And the border areas near the Nubilian Union’s coast have very stable temperatures all year round. Although it’s not bad for humans like you, for the Ice Flowers, anything above zero degrees feels like magma."

"So, it’s pretty amazing that the Ice Flower can sprout in such harsh conditions!" Illiya said excitedly. "And isn’t that good for you, Ke’Oth?"

Suddenly, Ke’Oth’s right eyelid twitched, and a bad feeling surged up.

The Demon King had once said, if the left eyelid twitches, it’s fortune, but if the right eyelid twitches, it’s disaster. However, the Demon King also said that one shouldn’t believe in superstitions and should trust science. Although Ke’Oth didn’t quite understand what science or superstition were, he could vaguely grasp the meaning of the Demon King’s words.

It was simply about believing in the good things.

This was something he was familiar with.

But today, it seemed the Demon King’s theory might not work.

His right eyelid was really twitching, and at the same time, his back was feeling cold!

Sure enough, Illiya, the light elf, flashed a mischievous smile and said teasingly, "Isn’t the Ice Flower’s strong nature a perfect match for you?"

"Ke’Oth, look at what you plant and what dies. This Ice Flower sprouted in a place totally unsuitable for it, and yet, you two are perfect for each other."

"Seriously, take good care of this Ice Flower."

Ke’Oth: ...

Despite the sincerity in Illiya’s voice, Ke’Oth couldn’t help but feel as if his heart had been pierced.

Sometimes, the truth doesn’t always need to be said out loud.

After hearing Illiya’s words, N’zall suddenly burst into laughter, completely ignoring how fragile, helpless, and pitiful his companion felt inside.

"Hahahahahaha, I think His Esteemed elf has a point. Take good care of this Ice Flower, and at least we won’t end up last at the plant appreciation contest, plus you’ll have a chance to clear your name for planting what dies. It’s a win-win!"

Ke’Oth felt incredibly wronged. "N’zall, don’t you have any loyalty to our kind?"

N’zall lifted his head, disdainfully ignoring Ke’Oth’s words. He sneered, "If it weren’t for my bad luck, drawing the short straw to team up with you to plant stuff, would I have fallen to this level? Besides, I don’t think I said anything wrong!"

Ke’Oth was immediately left speechless by N’zall’s verbal attack. His lips moved, wanting to refute, but he realized that N’zall was right. He couldn’t argue back.

He was frustrated, but there was nothing he could do about it. After all, he was in the wrong.

N’zall noticed that Ke’Oth had fallen silent and had no intention of kicking him while he was down.

The Demon King had once said that sometimes it was necessary to leave a little room for others, that one shouldn’t push someone too far. After all, when a dog is cornered, it can still leap over the wall. And for beings like them, the demons, when they get desperate, it’s a fight to the death.

It wasn’t that he was afraid of Ke’Oth; rather, they weren’t in the Demon Realm. More importantly, His Esteemed Elf was here! If it meant saving their plants, he could even call him "Father"!

In any case, His Esteemed Elf was essentially their new life-giver.

Could they fight in front of their parents? Of course, not.

Demons had this one line they wouldn’t cross.

With this thought in mind, N’zall reined in his smug expression and performed an immediate "face-change" for the crowd. His expression went from prideful to humbling, though it looked terribly awkward.

He rubbed his hands together, forcing a smile that looked oddly menacing due to the scar on his forehead. "Now that we know what kind of plant this is. Your Esteemed Elf, do you think you can help the Ice Flower grow properly?"

After speaking, N’zall felt like he hadn’t explained himself well enough, so he added, "As you know, the Demon Race’s Plant Appreciation Event would be held in less than a month. It might be unrealistic to make it to the Snowy Mountains in time. Even with a teleportation scroll, we can’t pinpoint a place we’ve never visited."

Illiya immediately understood.

So now, his mission had shifted from saving the crops to making the Ice Flower thrive. Although the growth conditions for the Ice Flower were demanding, he wasn’t without a plan.

Illiya lowered his head and thought for a moment, absentmindedly rubbing the space bracelet on his wrist. After a brief hesitation, he said, "It’s not impossible, but I do have some requirements."

Upon hearing "I have a way," Ke’Oth snapped out of his sorrowful state, instantly straightening up. He waved his hand grandly and boomed, "Not a problem, I have money!"
