The Elf Journey In The Western Fantasy World-Chapter 60: Great-Grand What?
Chapter 60: Great-Grand What?
So even if Eoryun didn’t want to acknowledge it, he had no choice. What mattered most now, however, was figuring out what he was supposed to call Tiana.
As the older sister of his many-times-great-grandmother... was he supposed to call her... his many-times-great-aunt?
Help. What kind of cursed title was that?
Eoryun felt aggrieved—but he didn’t voice it.
With neither of them knowing how to address the other, both simply stayed silent.
The room grew so quiet it became uncomfortable.
Illiya stood still for a while, finally unable to bear the oppressive silence.
He decided to resolve the issue that was clearly plaguing the two people in front of him.
Really now, wasn’t it just a matter of how to address a relative?
Illiya walked over to Eoryun, raised his hand, and gave his shoulder a couple of firm pats, gesturing for him to focus.
When Eoryun looked back in confusion, Illiya pointed to Tiana, seated across from them. "For special races like ours, we don’t care about how many generations are in between. Especially not in your case, as a mixed-blood."
"There’s no record in your family of your many-generations-past grandmother’s race. That clearly means none of your ancestors after her awakened that bloodline, which is why the family history only mentions it briefly and without detail."
"In short, you’re a throwback—a re-emergence of that bloodline after many dormant generations. So you can skip over all the unawakened ancestors and jump straight to your many-times-great-grandmother’s generation."
"Which makes things simple. What do you call your grandmother’s older sister?"
Eoryun was dumbfounded. He hadn’t realized it was possible to skip generations like that.
"I asked you a question," Illiya said with exasperation, seeing Eoryun start to space out again.
Eoryun jolted, snapping back to reality. "Ah, what did you say?"
Illiya: "..."
He smacked the back of Eoryun’s head and stormed off, annoyed.
Let someone else deal with this!
Eoryun: ...
Eoryun clutched the back of his head, feeling wronged as he stared accusingly at the retreating figure of the elf.
He really hadn’t meant to miss it—quq.
He was already this clueless; if they kept hitting him, he might actually lose more brain cells.
Darius, the kind-hearted one among them, couldn’t bear to watch anymore. He repeated Illiya’s question: "Illiya asked what you should call your grandmother’s sister."
Eoryun finally understood and began counting on his fingers.
Mother’s mother is grandmother. Mother’s sister is aunt. Then mother’s mother’s sister should be...
"Would it be... grandaunt?" Eoryun said hesitantly.
He truly couldn’t figure it out.
Trying to sort out family titles like this was too much.
He’d rather go fight a magical beast.
Illiya: ...
Darius: ...
Seoryun: ...
Drow: ...
Tiana fell silent. Was... was it really grandaunt?
Illiya closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
He genuinely hadn’t known that grandaunt was even a term someone would try.
Expecting Eoryun to get this right made him feel like an idiot.
Exhausted, Illiya said, "It’s great grand aunt."
Eoryun suddenly had a revelation. He immediately turned his head to look at his great grand aunt, Tiana.
But the moment he saw her face, the words "great grand aunt" just wouldn’t come out of his mouth.
Tiana belonged to a special race with an extremely long lifespan.
Although she had been in seclusion for a very long time, after emerging, she looked no different from before.
Her face was delicately shaped like a melon seed, with large eyes and long, curled lashes.
Her skin was fair, healthy, and flawless.
She could easily be mistaken for someone seventeen or eighteen years old.
Looking at such a youthful face, how could Eoryun possibly call her "great grand aunt"?
It was absolutely impossible!
Tiana, however, didn’t notice this awkwardness at all.
After the beautiful light elf helped clarify their familial connection, she silently started calculating what she should call her sister’s many-generations-later descendant.
Since her sister’s many-generations-later descendant was supposed to call her "great grand aunt," then by that logic, she should refer to him as her great grand nephew.
Great grand nephew, huh...
She actually had a junior now!
Tiana looked up at Eoryun, her eyes sparkling brightly, completely unbothered, and cheerfully called out, "My great grand nephew!"
Eoryun was startled by Tiana’s sudden outburst.
After clearly hearing the words "great grand nephew," he had no choice but to open his mouth and say that embarrassing title.
"Grandaunt..." Eoryun’s voice was barely audible.
He really couldn’t say it out loud.
"Hm?" Tiana looked confused.
She hadn’t quite heard him.
Seeing this, Eoryun simply shut his eyes, steeled himself, and called out loudly, "Grandaunt!"
Tiana felt a deep warmth in her heart upon hearing the title she’d been waiting for. "Yes! Grandnephew!"
Eoryun replied, "Grandaunt, I’m here!"
After saying it a few more times, he suddenly got used to it.
The joyful family reunion concluded.
Illiya and the others also learned about Tiana’s bloodline and finally understood what race Eoryun had reverted to.
After learning about Eoryun’s family composition, Tiana exclaimed in wonder, "This really is incredible. The merfolk bloodline is known to be extremely dominant. Logically speaking, my sister’s descendants should have displayed merfolk traits. Yet not a single one inherited it. That’s truly a miracle."
"Could it be that the human bloodline is especially strong in genetics? Should I find a human partner and try it out? It really seems like it would be an interesting area of study." As she spoke, her thoughts began drifting into dangerous territory.
Illiya hurriedly interrupted Tiana’s musings. "It might just be a fluke. As far as I know, most hybrids on the continent show some characteristics of other races. Eoryun’s family is rather special. Let’s just treat it as a miracle."
Illiya had a rough idea of what was going on.
Just imagine Eoryun as the protagonist of a hot blooded fantasy novel.
The protagonists always carry some kind of special bloodline, right? If the rest of the family had it too, then it wouldn’t highlight how unique and extraordinary the protagonist is.
