The Elf Journey In The Western Fantasy World-Chapter 52: To the Demon Realm, Together
Chapter 52: To the Demon Realm, Together
Unfortunately, the knight whom he had placed his hopes in was pretending to gaze out the window, wearing a clear expression of "I see nothing." The guilt was practically carved into his face.
Illiya gave up all hope.
A sudden realization dawned upon him: the king and the knight were actually in cahoots!
Indeed, Darius and Seoryun were working together.
While the elf had been speaking, the two of them had exchanged subtle gestures and quickly reached a mutual understanding.
Thankfully, Darius still had some sense of conscience.
He spoke up, a bit reserved, "Actually... I was thinking, could I come along too?"
Illiya: ...
Were all the people of Areuseon Kingdom this unreliable?
The king wanted to escape, the knight wanted to escape—how had this country not collapsed yet? It was nothing short of a miracle.
In the end, the elf was forced to agree to take this large group of companions on a journey toward the Demon Realm.
Illiya stood in front of the teleportation array, still unwilling to give up.
He asked once more, "Are you all seriously planning to come with me? This time we’re heading to the Demon Realm. The Demon Realm!"
"The demons are naturally aggressive and aren’t as easy to reason with as humans. For instance, when two demons disagree on something, the one with more strength ends up having the final say."
"In short, the Demon Realm are an extremely dangerous place!"
Illiya wracked his brain for every rumor he had ever heard about the demons, exaggerating the most violent parts several times over in an attempt to scare the group off.
But Seoryun was not someone easily fooled.
As the king of Areuseon Kingdom, the education he had received since childhood was far beyond the reach of ordinary people.
And not only was it elite, it was among the best of the best.
His knowledge base was extensive.
He was familiar with the basic information of all major races.
What’s more, the destination they were heading toward was the Demon Realm.
The relations between humans and demons had always been poor.
Coincidentally, the Allied Forces of the continent were about to go to war with the demons.
As a member of those Allied Forces, Seoryun believed it was necessary for him to go and assess the situation personally.
Their informants within the demon territory had reported unusually large movements recently—something abnormal was clearly brewing.
He quietly reviewing his plans in his mind and a multitude of thoughts flashed through his head.
But none of this could be explained to Illiya, nor would it make sense even if he tried.
After all, elves were a race that never got involved in wars.
Thinking this, Seoryun kept his expression completely neutral.
Feigning lightheartedness, he said, "What’s this? Your Esteemed Elf, are you already starting to show signs of not wanting us around? We haven’t even left yet and you’re already acting like we’re unwelcome. I’m hurt. Am I really such an unlikable person?"
As he spoke, Seoryun even placed a hand dramatically over his heart, a pained expression spreading across his face.
Illiya: ...
He had never seen anything more ridiculous.
He had dropped so many hints, and yet this stupid king was still playing the pity card.
What else could Illiya even say?
If he hadn’t caught the fleeting glint of amusement in the king’s dark eyes, he might very well have been fooled too.
Humans—so very cunning.
Even so, Illiya was still reluctant to yield. He shifted his focus to the one person in the group who at least looked dependable and tried to move him with his gaze.
"We really do want to see the world beyond, but more importantly, the Demon Realm are dangerous. Is it truly okay for a minor elf like you to go alone?" Darius stepped forward at just the right time to smooth things over.
"Besides, you yourself said the demons are dangerous. I imagine Drow feels the same way, right?"
Darius felt his own words didn’t carry enough weight, so he shifted the topic on the spot, dragging in a seemingly uninvolved dark elf.
The dark elf Drow: "..."
Drow glanced to the left, then to the right, and fell silent.
His hands that was hanging at his sides, unconsciously began picking at his clothes, as if he were struggling to make a difficult decision.
The atmosphere turned quiet all of a sudden.
As the awkward silence dragged on, everyone’s eyes naturally turned to the dark elf.
After a while, Drow finally made a move.
He lifted his head, and with the sudden motion, the hood on his head slid off, revealing the pale face that had been hidden beneath.
"...I’ll go," Drow replied softly. He turned his head, avoiding the disappointed expression on Illiya’s face.
"The demons are dangerous. Illiya is in danger, I need to protect him," Drow explained.
Darius instantly perked up once someone supported his point, suddenly appearing revitalized and full of energy.
"See? Even Drow thinks it’s dangerous. So we should go with you. That way, if anything happens, at least you’ll have someone to talk it over with."
Illiya let out a slow sigh, and a faint warmth passed through his heart.
He could sense the good intentions behind Darius and the others’ words.
He also understood the calculations behind their kindness.
He could more or less guess that they had their own reasons for needing to go to the demon lands.
Precisely because of that, he didn’t want Darius and the others to go with him.
His main concern was their safety, because this trip to the Demon Realm would inevitably involve direct contact with the
Fallen.
This particular Fallen might be easy to deal with, but what about the others?
When they encountered different Fallen creatures later, would things still go so smoothly?
That was something impossible to predict in advance.
Illiya lowered his head and pressed his lips together.
Before he could even open his mouth to speak, someone suddenly grabbed him from behind, half-dragging and half-pulling him into the teleportation array.
Illiya: ???!!!
