The Elf Journey In The Western Fantasy World-Chapter 102: Trapped by Politeness
Chapter 102: Trapped by Politeness
Their eyes were piercing, and both of their faces wore exaggeratedly radiant smiles.
Under such stares, Anos involuntarily swallowed his saliva hard. A chill ran down his spine as a growing sense of unease settled over him. He had a strong feeling that these two were up to no good.
And indeed, they were.
Seoryun swiftly strode forward in just a few steps and, catching Anos off guard, reached out to pull him into the room. Before Anos could react, the door was shut behind him with lightning speed. Seoryun naturally positioned himself behind Anos — in reality, he was blocking the exit, making sure the Demon King couldn’t leave.
Anos stood there in stunned silence, completely thrown off by the black-hearted black-haired king’s underhanded maneuver.
One blink — just one blink — and he had somehow ended up fully inside the room
Seoryun cleared his throat twice, speaking with a voice utterly devoid of guilt, as if there were no hidden intentions behind his words.
"Ahem, Your Majesty the Demon King, you came to invite us to the banquet, did you? How considerate of you."
As he spoke, Seoryun even gave Darius a sly wink, the corners of his lips curling into a knowing smile.
Darius lifted his gaze and instantly understood what his longtime companion was thinking. After all, they had grown up together, and he could read Seoryun like a book — nothing could be clearer.
And this time was no exception.
The Demon King had delivered himself to their doorstep — they hadn’t forced him to come.
With that in mind, both Seoryun and Darius instantly felt no guilt at all.
Darius’s face broke into a dazzling smile, bright and warm, exuding an air of friendliness.
"Your Majesty, you’re far too kind. I’ve long heard that the current Demon King is benevolent and approachable. Now that I’ve met you in person, I can say it’s all true."
"I didn’t expect that you would personally come to invite us to the evening banquet. I’m truly flattered," Darius continued to heap on the compliments, until his tone shifted slightly, adding a touch of concern. "Although we’re honored by such a privilege, there is, however..."
He trailed off, his eyes hesitating, wearing an expression that seemed to speak volumes yet said nothing.
Anos’s entire body had been tense up until now. Only at this point did he feel his muscles slightly relax — but that relief was short-lived. Almost immediately, a fresh wave of anxiety took over.
After hearing Darius’s words, Anos couldn’t help but think: So it is like this, after all. The other shoe had finally dropped. Out of everything said, that last sentence was definitely the most important.
Indeed — transition words were critical in reading comprehension!
Wasn’t this the perfect example?
But even if he understood perfectly well what was happening, Anos couldn’t let that show. He had to follow along with their words, keep up the act.
Summoning every ounce of acting skill he possessed, Anos put on his best performance: a mix of three parts guilt, three parts humility, and four parts surprise.
"You are honored guests. Coming to personally invite you is only proper. As the king of the Demon Realm, there are still some things I understand."
"But compared to you both, I still have a long way to go. After all, I’ve only recently ascended to the throne," he said modestly. "But... have you two run into some kind of trouble? It seems rather serious. Is there anything I can help with?"
The moment Seoryun heard the words he’d been hoping for, he lit up with satisfaction. This was exactly what he had been waiting for.
"Really? Then let me thank Your Majesty in advance!" Seoryun exclaimed, face glowing with emotion, his voice full of unrestrained excitement.
Anos: ???
Wait a second — it was just a polite gesture! How could they take it seriously?
This is unfair! You’re not playing by the rules at all!
Seoryun ignored the furious glare from His Majesty the Demon King and responded with a smile.
Indeed, the people of the main continent had never been ones to follow the so-called martial code of virtue.
Especially not those in power. Sometimes, having no shame was actually a good strategy.
However, this particular Demon King had only just ascended the throne. He hadn’t yet adjusted to his new identity, nor had he adopted the behavioral principles expected of his role. He certainly hadn’t developed the thick skin needed for political maneuvering. Compared to a certain black-haired king who had ruled for about twenty years, Anos was merely a toddler learning to walk.
His Majesty the Demon King, whose skin had yet to grow thick, could only silently grind his teeth behind a smiling face while bitterly regretting everything inside.
What kind of people were these?! Was it really okay to bully a toddler barely two or three years old?!
The child was aggrieved—truly aggrieved.
Since the words had already left his mouth, Anos couldn’t go back on them. Forcing a grin, he gritted his teeth and said, "Hahahahaha, no need to be so polite. I’m glad I could be of help."
Seoryun and Darius were already very satisfied with this outcome. They knew better than to push their luck any further. After all, while the newly appointed Demon King was young, that didn’t mean he had no temper.
No objection meant they hadn’t crossed his bottom line.
That was good enough.
Anos realized there was no room left for maneuvering, so he didn’t bother struggling anymore. Giving up completely, he said, "So, what kind of problem have you encountered?"
Now it was Seoryun’s turn to shine. Such a task was beyond the capabilities of the burly red-haired swordsman.
"Well, the thing is... last night was actually the best sleep we’ve had in a long time. Before arriving in the Demon Realm, for various reasons, none of us had been able to rest properly. So the current situation, well, isn’t it somewhat understandable?" Seoryun said with a tone of helplessness.
