The dragon's harem-Chapter 1248: The Conductor of Magic
Alice stood still on the plateau, looking down at the battlefield. Her eyes raced around, flashing with red light. She wasn't looking directly at the battlefield, but at the strands of her magic that permeated through the air above it.
While most mages could barely concentrate on a single spell, Alice could command tens of spells with a single wave of her wand. A soldier got thirsty. That might cause him to get killed by monsters soon, so Alice would solve that problem.
First, cast a scrying spell to find the soldier's location, accurately locate the coordinates of the inside of his mouth, send him a warning through a telepathy spell using a pre-recorded line from her massive library of sound magic, then cast a conjure water using those coordinates to solve the problem. Lastly, recycle all the mana possible from those spells and look for another target.
Alice handled tens of those scenarios each second. Most of the soldiers' biological needs were met, ensuring every one of them was in top condition. Need to use the bathroom? Solved. It's the bad day of the month? Teleport her out. Can't remember if you locked your door before coming here? Here is visual proof, you forgot it was open and Alice had locked it for you. Now focus on killing the monsters.
That was the lowest level of magic Alice was casting upon the battlefield. The middle level of magic was that of direct support, using spells to bend reality and fate to the soldier's merit.
A monster is a bit too fast for the soldiers to kill. Cast a spell and turn the snow beneath it into slippery ice and make it slip, then allow the soldiers to move freely on the ice to slay it.
A soldier got too scared when surrounded by four terrifying creatures of the chasm. Nothing a bit of mind control and fake courage can't fix. Now he only has to hold out until reinforcement arrives nine seconds later.
Call reinforcement for that guy.
A soldier got stabbed in the chest by a needle flung out of the back of a massive porcupine-like creature. Cast a delay death on him and teleport him to the healers in the city, and send those healers a telepathic report about how he was injured and that the needle might be poisonous. Also, tell them never to look in his left pocket. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
What did he have in his left pocket? A naked drawing of his wife that he keeps on his wall all the time. How did Alice know? He was praying to the drawing before the fight.
Throughout the battlefield, Alice assisted hundreds of soldiers in battle against the unending waves of monsters. Her middle-level magic was the core that kept all of the soldiers alive, minimising the army's losses as much as possible.
So what about the high-level magic?
Fire erupted from the bowls of earth, lightning fell from the black heavens, and the ground shattered as massive spears of stone exploded beneath the horde of monsters.
A large monster was charging forward, then she cast a failed teleportation spell to just teleport the monster's left kidney away, and then finish him off with a lightning strike from the back clouds. And how about resurrecting that monster as a zombie to fight other monsters?
Titanic flying vultures were now heading to the city to attack the healers? Those ugly beards had bald heads, long disgusting necks, and four black wings decorated with golden stripes.
Too bad they were blown away by a violent gust spell and then ended up falling into a drying cloud of ash that sucked all moisture out of their bodies and mummified them in the blink of an eye.
Countless elemental spells flashed across the battlefield, reaping hundreds of lives each second.
So what if something unexpected happened? Something that not even she could've expected?
That's what just happened. A massive, moving colossal akin to the walking mountain that Claug killed had just appeared out of nowhere to attack the city.
This one looked like the newborn monstrosity of a mountain and a gorilla. If that gorilla was bald and wrinkly like a Shar-Pei dog.
The bald gorilla mountain reached down and grabbed a massive boulder with its powerful arms. All of the soldiers paled, their eyes following the mountain's hand.
There is no way to stop such a massive object if it were thrown toward the city. Even if Alice deployed a powerful barrier, the splinters of stone would kill hundreds of soldiers upon impact.
Is there a magic powerful enough in her library to blow the mountain's arm off before it could throw the boulder? No, can she divert the boulder's direction, probably not.
A direct hit to the city was imminent and inevitable. But Alice didn't leave the city for this reason. Situations like this are bound to happen eventually, and so she had a contingency spell prepared.
In front of everyone's eyes, the entire city was ripped out of its roots and floated into the sky, dodging the flying boulder by hair's breadth. It takes a long time to cast such a massive spell, but Alice spent a long enough time through her stay here to work her magic.
The city won't stay afloat for a long time. It was too massive and too heavy even for someone like Alice to keep in the sky with magic. And thus, Alice had to kill the bald gorilla mountain immediately.
Alice's eyes flashed red, and two beams of pure, red energy shot from them, disintegrating two massive holes into the gorilla's arm. The beams then swung around, following Alice's gaze, and sliced the whole bald gorilla mountain in half and then ripped the ground beside it apart, killing hundreds of monsters.
With her eyes still charged with magic, Alice decided not to let that energy go to waste and went on to blast the strongest of monsters that she could see with beams of disintegration magic.
At the same time, the city slowly floated down and landed back on the mountain. The cracks spreading through the streets got repaired in seconds by Alice's potent repair magic. While most mages can barely use that spell to repair torn clothes, she can mend the whole city with a single world. [Be Repaired]
The Storm Titans didn't know whether to be afraid of her power, glad that she was on their side, or curse whatever caused her to leave their race to live alone.
In the end, they were just terrified of her power and magic. And there was one reason for that fear, she still didn't use her cleric's holy magic at all, and she is a cleric of the goddess of magic.
