52 -0052: Horror Movie

People bustled about as Wang Xiaoya sat on the back of the bicycle, clinging to her boyfriend as if it were the most natural thing, without a shred of shyness.

Near the neighborhood, there was a large shopping mall.

Long Fei pedaled the bicycle over in a few strides, bought tickets, and chose a horror movie to watch inside.

Long Fei never watched these kinds of films, for they were too sinister and would give him nightmares afterward.

Wang Xiaoya insisted on watching despite this, and Long Fei couldn’t fathom why such an elegant girl would enjoy horror films.

Domestic horror films tend to have terrifying posters but end up being comedies.

But this time it just had to be a Thai film.

Damn it, the disturbing scenes coupled with eerie music were twisted beyond words.

Late at night, the film made everyone’s scalp tingle, especially the girls.

The more frightened they were, the more they wanted to watch, often screaming out loud.

Wang Xiaoya was that kind of woman; she was the loudest outside, but inside she cowered immediately.

She buried herself in Long Fei’s arms, covering her ears with both hands, only revealing one eye to stare at the movie.

Long Fei awkwardly held popcorn for her in the midst of summer when they were both dressed in minimal clothing.

Her petite body was soft and snuggled into his embrace.

Long Fei lost all interest in the movie, focused instead on suppressing the restlessness within him.

But…

Wang Xiaoya’s face was pressed against him, and she seemed…

quite comfortable, as she suddenly sat upright.

She looked panic-stricken, her face flushed to the color of burning coals.

Long Fei gave a couple of forced coughs, his own face turning reddish as he tugged at his T-shirt.

Luckily, the lighting in the place was dim, or he would’ve wished for a hole in the ground to crawl into.

After the movie ended, the crowd dispersed.

Long Fei remained seated until Wang Xiaoya stood up and said, “Let’s go!”

He then got up, awkwardly leaving with her.

Once outside, he retrieved the bicycle from the parking area and walked with Wang Xiaoya for a while, silent and unsure of what to say.

It was past eleven at night, and the breeze felt cool against the skin.

The streets were much quieter and less crowded than during rush hour.

Long Fei thought for a moment and then managed to squeeze out the words, “Today’s film wasn’t bad, that Thai chick was quite pretty!”

Wang Xiaoya covered her mouth and laughed, “Did you seriously watch it?

The story was about a Human-Demon Hybrid!”

“Really?”

Long Fei chuckled and teased, “Is Thailand’s technology really that advanced?

Maybe I should try it too, come back and marry a rich and handsome guy, then I won’t have to struggle through life!”

“Get lost!”

Wang Xiaoya giggled and called out to him, “If you turned into a woman, what would I do?”

The moment she said it, her face turned red, and she shyly looked down.

Long Fei watched her, stunned, and likewise averted his gaze, his heart pounding.

He mounted the bicycle and let Wang Xiaoya sit on the back.

When they arrived at Wang Xiaoya’s building, Long Fei asked her, “Are you hungry?

Do you want to grab some late-night food?”

Wang Xiaoya shook her head, “No need, you should go!

It’s late, and we both have work tomorrow!”

“Alright, I’ll treat you some other time then!”

Long Fei nodded and mounted the bicycle, preparing to leave.

Wang Xiaoya called out to him, “Are you just leaving like this?”

Long Fei turned back, frowning, “Do you have something else?”

Wang Xiaoya pursed her lips, frustrated, “No, just go!”

“Oh!”

Long Fei turned back and pedaled away on the bicycle.

Wang Xiaoya stamped her foot in irritation behind him, muttering, “So dumb, a goodbye kiss wouldn’t kill you!”

After she said that, she laughed at herself.

With a blushing face, she hurried up the stairs.

Zhang Li had returned, and upon entering, she found the woman applying a face mask on the sofa, watching television.

Wang Xiaoya hung up her bag without saying a word and took off her coat, ready to wash up.

Zhang Li stood up with a smile, interrogating her, “Hold on, what kind of mischief have you been up to, coming back without reporting to your lady here?”

Wang Xiaoya covered her tracks, “Ran into an acquaintance and chatted nearby, what mischief could I possibly do!”

Zhang Li chuckled mischievously, “An acquaintance?

I heard from colleagues in the WeChat group that you left work with Long Fei?”

Wang Xiaoya quirked an eyebrow and pulled out her phone to look.

Indeed, the WeChat group had been buzzing with gossip about her and Long Fei, complete with surreptitiously taken photos.

She grumbled, “Who’s so idle, seriously sick in the head!”

Zhang Li laughed out loud, “Guilty conscience much?

Coming back so late, where did you go for a date?”

“You nosy parker, why are you so curious!”

Wang Xiaoya pinched her, then sat down on the couch and took an apple from the table to eat.

Zhang Li sat down beside her, sweetly saying, “That apple was bought for me by Liu Kai, how does it taste?”

“Not bad!”

Wang Xiaoya watched the TV, distracted.

Zhang Li exclaimed, “What do you mean, ‘not bad’?

That apple is imported from Thailand, over thirty yuan per half kilogram!”

Upon hearing the word Thailand, Wang Xiaoya, for some reason, suddenly thought of that hard object, gagged a little, spit out the apple, and stood up.

Just then, that thing of Long Fei’s had bumped against her cheek, and it truly scared her.

Zhang Li frowned and asked, “What’s the matter with you?”

Wang Xiaoya fled to the bathroom, shouting back, “Nothing, I just watched a Thai horror film, felt a bit nauseous!”

“Huh?”

Zhang Li called out, then looked at the apple and threw it onto the table, scratching herself.

Whenever Thailand was mentioned, her mind filled with thoughts of curses, insects, and spell casters, all from the movies she watched with Wang Xiaoya when they were bored.

After Long Fei returned home, late at night, He Yan was surprisingly awake, tidying up things in the courtyard.

As Long Fei entered, she immediately said, “Little Fei, later on, move this sofa into your room.

I cleaned it during the day, it’s still good to use!”

Long Fei looked over, a one-and-a-half-meter fabric sofa that appeared quite new.

He asked, “Sister Yan, where did this sofa come from?”

He Yan laughed, “From the third floor, they want to change everything there for new.

Today the workers brought it down, I sold some and saved a sofa set for you.

Your room’s too small to fit anything else!”

Long Fei glanced around the courtyard at the bottles and jars, noting even the toilet had been brought down.

It looked like the tenant was planning a major renovation.

He was somewhat puzzled, with that money, they could clearly rent a better apartment, why insist on renting here.

Near the school, nicer places were aplenty.

Fully furnished, just move in with a bag.

Today’s students, truly baffling.

He helped He Yan tidy up, storing the unnecessary items in the storage room.

He Yan pointed to a standing cabinet and instructed Long Fei, “Take this back with you too, there’s an old TV outside, although old, it’s still watchable.”

Long Fei smiled, “Alright, with this renovation, I’ve turned into a young master!”

He Yan giggled, “This is nothing; the renovation workers said that any replaced furniture will be left here, I won’t have to spend a penny.”

Long Fei curiously asked, “Who is this guy, anyway?

Could there be a problem?”

He Yan shook her head, “Who cares, let her fuss if she likes fussing, after all, it costs us nothing.

From what the workers said, it seems she’s some kind of young missy from a family.

When signing the contract, she didn’t even use her real name, she wrote down ‘Mumu’.

I mean, who is named Mumu, quite amusing!”

Long Fei laughed, carried the cabinet out, and then hoisted the sofa and TV one by one upstairs.

He was strong enough to manage it alone.

He Yan watched, amazed, thinking the sofa alone weighed over a hundred kilos; it had taken two workers to carry it down earlier.

Long Fei could lift it with one hand, all that muscle wasn’t for nothing.
