The Beautiful Boss's Personal Bodyguard-Chapter 422 - 421
Chapter 422: 421
"That just means you’re an idiot."
"He’s just a fool!"
A burst of good-natured laughter erupted amongst the crowd.
Just then, someone mentioned that the company commander had arrived, and the whole place fell silent. "Turret," who was standing at the back of the crowd, hurried to the front and stood at attention to salute the approaching company commander.
Jiang Dawei didn’t even glance at him properly, and walked directly in front of the crowd.
Being the company commander, once Jiang Dawei swept his gaze over them, everyone immediately shut their mouths obediently. Even Little Sichuan, who had been somewhat flippant before, now tightly closed his mouth and stared straight ahead without moving his eyes.
"Quiet down? Stopped talking? Very capable, aren’t you! Why don’t you try being the platoon leader? Little Sichuan!"
"Present!"
"What about you taking over?"
The kid chuckled and said with a pleading tone, "That’s just a joke, sir! Taking it too seriously now!"
Jiang Dawei snorted coldly, "Humph, isn’t that exactly how you wanted to play it big? So, what now, quitting playing?"
Little Sichuan’s head drooped dejectedly, and he stopped talking. No one else spoke either.
Seeing the atmosphere a bit tense, the instructor should step in to smooth things over now, "Well, everyone is thinking of the nation’s interests. Regardless, the intention is good, and that’s indisputable!"
He spoke with an assertive tone, providing some reassurance to everyone present.
"But, I must say this. Everyone’s heart is in the right place, but are the methods right? Have you thought about why what you think is always different from what others think? Think about it, if a real battle were to unfold, would it go as you imagined and result in a victory?"
Now, the crowd was even quieter. Everyone was no fool, and of course, they knew what the instructor meant.
Seeing the crowd starting to settle down, Wu Wenjun continued, "We are all valiant fellows who’ve gone through tough times. These words, these truths, you all inherently understand. It’s just that it’s easy to get hot-headed, and that’s pretty normal. Even your company commander, when he drinks too much, still grabs my hand thinking it’s his wife’s and won’t let go."
Jiang Dawei rolled his eyes, but it didn’t have any effect and instead spurred an even larger burst of laughter. Everyone recognized the meaning behind the instructor’s words, and several impatient guys couldn’t help but start asking collectively, "Instructor, what is the mission this time, really?"
This question hit the nail on the head. With just one company here, totaling about a hundred people, minus the cooks, everyone else was a combatant. There’s not much that couldn’t be disclosed here. The area is heavily non-smoking, and local villagers wouldn’t recklessly come in, so there was no worry about spies.
Wu Wenjun glanced at Jiang Dawei’s expression, seeing he had no intention of speaking, he had to do the introductions himself, "Remaining men, gather your gear and assemble at the back mountain!"
The back mountain wasn’t actually because there was a mountain behind the barracks, it was just a colloquial term. No one knew where this nickname originated from, but it just passed down this way and folks got used to calling it that.
Since Ye Tian’s identity was known, there wasn’t much to hide anymore. However, Jiang Dawei started to hesitated knowing he was to engage in combat, "You folks at the regimental headquarters are all precious, you come here to select men, let’s leave it at that. Don’t add to the mess here. When a combat hero emerges, you can just choose and take them away; why join this excitement?"
Ye Tian insisted on participating, specifically clarifying that he just needed a firearm.
"Alright, you can join on your own. I won’t stop you. Hey, get two men, no, Wolf, come here!"
Ye Tian was carefully examining the Type 81 in his hands, feeling thrilled, when he saw a person in a white camouflage suit jog over and then stood at attention to salute.
"You two... well... just help each other out, respect and love each other."
After this perplexing remark, Jiang Dawei walked over to "Turret." Ye Tian knew Jiang Dawei didn’t want to give this "Wolf" a chance, also trying his best to ensure his own safety, after all, this was his territory, and if anything happened here, naturally, he would be held responsible.
"I am Wolf; just follow me when the time comes."
Thankfully, he didn’t disdain me.
"I am Ye Tian, I guarantee not to be a burden."
...
No planes were available, so they had to ride to Moda Mountain and then trek into the bordering area with Nepal on foot. Here laid a valley, also the spot for the upcoming ambush.
The journey was long. According to intelligence, the enemy would cross the border in the afternoon of the 25th, so Ye Tian and his team had to set off on the 24th. After a day and night, they finally arrived in the valley by noon the next day. This trip indeed made Ye Tian suffer greatly. Although he barely managed to keep up with the troop’s pace, he truly experienced the harshness of nature on the Tibet plateau. The beings able to survive in this environment are undoubtedly the greatest miracles of the Creator.
"Wolf" was the sniper in the squad, so he wouldn’t be acting with the main force. Thanks to him, Ye Tian could hide in a wind-sheltered spot above, somewhat warmer than being in the open.
"Ever served in the military?"
Wolf glanced at Ye Tian, who skillfully dug out a snow den, and asked.
"No, just saw some folks do it on TV, imitated them and played around with it."
"To have it turn out like this, you’re pretty skilled."
Ye Tian just smiled, not responding.
...
The frontier routes were also sensitive conflict zones. No one dares to make a move, nor dare to strike first, just letting it be. However, there are always some restless people starting trouble here.
Xinjiang’s passes and Tibet’s border with Nepal are such places.
The people in Tibet are honest villagers who wouldn’t provoke outsiders or engage them in conflicts, only enduring and avoiding them, letting things pass, but such a low profile still does not invite forgiveness from the other side. Drug traffickers entering from Tibet conquer various critical paths and remote areas using camels and sometimes even force local people to transport these drugs for them.
The principle that ’goodness invites bullying’ remains unchanged through the ages.
Initially, the local armed forces tried to strike against these drug traffickers crossing the borders, but most attempts ended in failure, either due to the overwhelming firepower of the opponents or due to the insufficient strength of their own forces.
