Suppressing the Protagonist in the Start to Seize the Heroine-Chapter 259
Chapter 259: Su Lin’s Conditions
Li Ziyu returned to the private room and saw Jiang Ruoxi looking at her with eager eyes, to which she shook her head slightly. Jiang Ruoxi’s face fell, understanding that things weren’t going to be easy.
Her uncle, Jiang Yixian, had told her not to push too hard as these things can’t be rushed. So, she was prepared for rejection.
Li Ziyu could tell from Jiang Ruoxi’s expression that she had misunderstood, probably thinking that Su Lin had rejected her request. In reality, Li Ziyu had just thought it took too long to discuss it there, so she planned to bring it up after dinner. She didn’t explain this, seeing Jiang Rouxi’s disheartened look.
Soon after, Su Lin returned to the table. The dinner proceeded lively, and as it wrapped up, everyone prepared to leave. Li Ziyu pulled Su Lin aside.
Observing Jiang Ruoxi nearby, everyone seemed puzzled. Lin Xiaowan was the first to realize that Jiang Ruoxi must have asked Su Lin for a favor and, too embarrassed to speak directly, approached Li Ziyu for help. Lin Xiaowan suggested, “We’ll wait for you downstairs.”
Su Lin nodded, watching the others enter the elevator before turning to Li Ziyu and Jiang Ruoxi with a smile. “Ruoxi came to see me today but didn’t speak a word. Now, Ziyu, it’s your turn to tell me, what’s going on?”
Li ZiYu nodded to Jiang Ruoxi then spoke; “Su Lin things are like this, Ruoxi has a second uncle who is also a peak Grandmaster ……”
After Li Ziyu finished speaking, she nodded to Jiang Ruoxi, who then stepped forward. “Su Lin, if this request is too much, feel free to refuse. I didn’t have high hopes; I just wanted to try since the opportunity was right there, even if there’s only a one percent chance.”
Su Lin, observing Jiang Ruoxi’s resolute gaze, fell silent for a moment. Advancing to Human Immortal status isn’t just about reaching the required level of cultivation; otherwise, major families would simply “produce” such individuals en masse. He Suxi’s breakthrough was possible only with his guidance.
Considering Jiang Yixian might have been stuck at this bottleneck for a decade, Su Lin figured he could probably help. But why should he? He wasn’t close to Jiang Ruoxi; they were barely acquaintances.
“Why would I help?” he pondered aloud. “What would you offer me in return?”
Jiang Ruoxi was at a loss for words. Her family in Modu was powerful and wealthy, but Su Lin lacked nothing. With influential in-laws and numerous women, Su Lin didn’t need more wealth or power.
Realizing she had nothing substantial to offer, Jiang Ruoxi said, “I’m sorry to have bothered you, Su Lin.”
Su Lin dismissed the apology, “You’re Ziyu’s friend, which makes you my friend too. It’s no bother.”
Jiang Ruoxi sighed, “Maybe it’s just not meant to be…”
Li Ziyu remained silent, not wanting to add any pressure. She was just there to help Jiang Ruoxi communicate her request.
“It’s not that we can’t negotiate.”
“What… what do you mean?” Jiang Ruoxi, gripping Su Lin’s arm, asked excitedly.
Su Lin nodded, “We can certainly talk. Your uncle is only in his forties, a young and peak Grandmaster—impressive. It’s best he comes to me directly, as the conditions I’d require might be beyond your scope to agree to.”
Jubilant, Jiang Ruoxi responded, “Okay, I’ll call him right away and have him talk to you!”
Su Lin stopped her, suggesting, “It’s late. Go home first, discuss with your uncle, and have him come to Su Corporation tomorrow morning.”
“Alright!”
Watching Jiang Ruoxi’s elated departure, Li Ziyu felt pleased that her friend might finally control her own marital fate. Yet, she couldn’t help but ask Su Lin, “Is this matter too troublesome? You can refuse if it is.”
Su Lin smiled, “It’s no trouble at all, Ziyu. In fact, I should be thanking you.”
“Thank me for what?”
With Jiang Ruoxi still present, Su Lin just smiled mysteriously, not elaborating that he was considering making Jiang Yixian an ally or a potential enforcer—Human Immortals were not easily found.
“Let’s head downstairs; Xiaowan and the others are waiting,” Li Ziyu said cheerfully.
“Okay!”
Su Lin shook his head as he watched Jiang Ruoxi nearly dancing with joy, a woman several years his senior yet appearing somewhat naïve.
Once home, Jiang Yixian immediately approached her. “My dear niece, how did it go?”
Jiang Ruoxi teased, “Uncle, guess.”
“Did it… work?” he asked excitedly.
She shook her head , then paused as he slumped, “So it didn’t?”
She shook her head again.
Frustrated, he demanded, “So, did it work or not?”
“Take it easy, Uncle. Su Lin said we could talk, but I can’t make the decisions; it has to be with you.”
Relieved, Jiang Yixian nodded, “Good, good. As long as we can talk.” Then he frowned, pondering the implications. “He wants to talk to me personally, not just for wealth or power… What does he want?”
Realizing Su Lin might want him as an enforcer, Jiang Yixian sighed, facing the potential request to serve as a guest elder for possibly fifty to a hundred years. “What will I do then?”
Jiang Ruoxi, witnessing her uncle’s change in demeanor, wondered aloud, “Uncle, if Su Lin asks you to become his enforcer, would you agree?”
Jiang Yixian was silent. If asked ten years ago, he would have refused proudly, but now, after ten years without progress, he wasn’t so sure.
“I… don’t know,” he admitted.
