Spending Noble with a system-Chapter 12: Intense battle
Chapter 12 - Intense battle
Henry ignored the herald and addressed Lucien, "Observe, boy. This is how you use a sword."
As he said this he struck back at the herald, his sword strikes were as deadly as they were radiant. Lucien felt his sword mastery increase just by watching and feeling how Henry used his sword and aura
He deflected and cut through the herald's strikes as if they were paper. He leapt up and his speed suddenly increased by magnitudes, in an instant, he was above the herald. He brought down the sword violently on the herald, intending to hack him in half.
The herald wasn't a slouch, he materialized a glimmering crimson barrier around himself which managed to withstand the strike. His body then dissaparated and appeared on another corner of the room.
He continued raining down attacks on Lucien, continuing the tough fight. The priest though still had the sardonic look on his face, as though he was certain he would win. Lucien wondered why? He found out the next second as he suddenly felt pain arise spontaneously from his body.
Henry's voice rose in his mind, "The origin energy and my soul are too strong, your body can't handle it yet. If I keep battling with the herald, your body and soul will be damaged, and the bastard knows it."
The herald indeed seemed to notice something as he laughed even more sarcastically. "I told you Henry. You will not stop me."
"What if you add me?" A crisp voice split the air.
Lucien was shocked, "Selene!" Selene had untied herself from his back. She was standing behind him, safe and conscious. However, something was different about her.
Her previous blue hair had turned pure silver, and her eyes had gained a mysterious silver hue. There was none of the shyness and hesitation previously there, there was only confidence and power. Clearly Henry's companion had managed to awaken and possess her too. Lucien didn't know whether to be furious, afraid or happy.
She moved her hand in a strange pattern, causing a brilliant silver hue to rise and illuminate the room. Lucien felt Henry's shock. "Luna, you actually used your own origin to awaken her?"
Selene turned and looked at Lucien but the one that spoke wasn't her. "I needed to, otherwise we would all have failed. I don't need the origin anyway. The seal restrict s us.
As she said this the light turned into brilliant sharp rays that attacked the herald mercilessly. The herald cursed and materialized another barrier.
The duo relentlessly rained down attacks on the herald; he couldn't even get a chance to retaliate. They worked with such understanding and rapport the herald couldn't get in an attack. Luna's radiant beams were deceptive—light as feathers yet devastatingly powerful. They could freeze, slow, heal, burn and do all manner of things.
Finally Luna managed to find a chance. She clapped her hands, combining her silvery rays into one huge ray that shone on the herald's barrier. The barrier quickly froze then shattered into pieces, Henry didn't let such a prime opportunity pass by.
He zoomed next to the herald and slashed fiercely, the herald couldn't manage to put a new barrier in time. The clone was ruthlessly slashed in half, before dissipating into thin air.
Just as it did that the crystal hovering above the platform shattered into pieces. With it something shifted in the air, A strange ripple passed through the world, as if a hidden veil had been torn apart. it was as if an invisible curtain had been lifted.
Both of them looked up at the air. "The seal has lifted."
The change was immediate, starting from the herald. His body which had been lying on the altar started decaying at a visible pace.
The herald opened his eyes, which had a resigned look in them. They was no screaming, no raving, just acceptance that it was time. His body decayed and slowly disappeared.
Henry and Luna watched him go, there was similarly no sadness or triumph. Just acceptance.
Then, Henry's voice once again surfaced in Lucien's mind.
"You know... I've grown quite fond of this body. Maybe I'll stay."
A chill ran down Lucien's spine. If Henry refused to leave, he was finished.
But a moment later, Henry's presence gently receded, and Lucien regained control of himself. He gasped, heart pounding.
Henry laughed from where he now stood beside him. "That look on your face—pure panic. Don't worry, I'd never steal the body of someone from my own lineage."
The feeling of relief and euphoria was overwhelming, his worst fears had not come true. He felt embarrassed at the thought though, Henry had saved his and Selene's lives.
He looked at Selene and saw the regal coldness disappear from her eyes. She regained her hesitant and pure gaze as she looked at him. Her hair remained a shiny silver though, flowing and gorgeous while her eyes kept their mysterious swirling silver tint.
Henry's companion woke up and came to stand beside him. She gazed at Henry intently, "can you feel it?"
Henry nodded. "it's been thousands of years. They are all gone. Teacher, my fellow students, your teacher, our families. They are all gone. I can't sense a single one of them"
His voice had a forlorn sadness to it that almost broke Lucien's heart.
"Should we let go?" Luna asked again.
Henry nodded and turned to Lucien, "it's our time. I will leave my origin sealed within you. Our lineage still has a successor. I want to follow my teacher and family into the beyond."
Luna too turned to Selene. "You have the same physique as me and my teacher. The Lunar worship physique, I'll leave my origin to you. It will protect and illuminate the way to go. My lineage also has a successor."
Lucien felt a will to die from the two, he could understand but it still left a bad taste in his mouth. He felt sad and despondent, but he had to accept their wishes. He couldn't understand their feelings at the moment.
