Chapter 1042: Goddess of Doom

Time was fleeting during cultivation.

Thirty years later...

Sein was making a strong push toward the demigod realm when an unexpected guest arrived at his castle.

The visitor was none other than the Succubus Queen, Anastasia.

Unlike their last encounter, the Succubus Queen before him had suffered a drastic decline in power.

Once an intermediate deity, her aura and presence had weakened significantly, dropping to the level of a saint.

Even so, Sein could tell that her true strength far exceeded that of an ordinary demigod. However, the undeniable fact remained—her overall power had plummeted.

Along with Anastasia, a dozen or so demigod-level demon lords had also arrived.

They were likely the Succubus Queen’s bodyguards during the Avatar Crisis.

With such a retinue, she was safest as long as she remained within the confines of Purgatory.

“I thought you would have been cast to the outer edges of Purgatory’s first level as well,” Sein greeted her, his tone edged with impatience.

Mages were always irritable when their experiments were interrupted.

Anastasia, however, took no offense at Sein’s attitude. She had known him for a long time and was well accustomed to his temperament by now.

“As the princess of Purgatory, I have certain law-level privileges,” she replied smoothly.

Running her fingers through her hair, she continued, “But I won’t be able to remain on the second floor much longer. Soon, I’ll have to descend to the first.”

Sein nodded in understanding.

It was not just the Succubus Queen—he, too, was growing weary of the second floor of Purgatory as the Avatar Crisis progressed.

The very nature of Purgatory eroded the sanity of those who dwelled within it.

While Sein could still endure, the others living around his castle were far more vulnerable.

If this deterioration continued, it would only be a matter of time before he even felt its effects.

Sein did not want to become a mindless creature who knew only how to kill.

The impulsive and tyrannical nature of the demons was fundamentally at odds with the rational and composed mindset that mages were supposed to cultivate.

From this perspective, his initial decision to integrate the Flame Demon bloodline to enhance his pyro elemental energy manipulation and physical resilience had not been the most optimal choice.

“This is...?” Sein turned slightly and asked the black-robed figure trailing behind the Succubus Queen.

This person kept a precise half-step behind her.

Whether it was the faint traces of divine power and laws radiating from her or the subtle way she carried himself, everything suggested that she was no mere subordinate of the Succubus Queen.

More importantly, Sein sensed something unsettling about her—a vague yet instinctive sense of rejection.

As he frowned at the figure, the Succubus Queen smiled and introduced him.

“This is Morvanya, the Goddess of Doom—an intermediate deity of the Dark Alliance.”

Sein had heard of Morvanya since arriving in Faeloria.

She was an unusual goddess, wielding an extremely peculiar divine ability tied to doom itself.

Her reputation in Faeloria was exceedingly poor.

Had it not been for her good relationship with the Dark Lady, Morvanya—who had offended countless deities—would likely have been hunted down by her many enemies.

In stark contrast, her sister, Tyvera, the Goddess of Luck, was widely beloved across Faeloria.

As the Succubus Queen spoke, the black-robed figure lowered her hood.

Morvanya was not unattractive. In fact, she bore the youthful appearance of a young woman.

However, her lips shimmered with an eerie, demonic black hue, and strange arcane patterns marked her pale cheeks.

Just looking at her was enough to make people feel uneasy, as though merely being in her presence invited misfortune.

Was Morvanya truly evil?

Not exactly. At the very least, she had never been known to commit indiscriminate slaughter.

Yet the nature of her divinity ensured that misfortune followed those around her.

Aside from a rare few beings, such as the Purgatory demons and the Dark Lady, Morvanya had no friends.

For some reason, the first time Sein laid eyes on her, he was reminded of Master Lorianne’s close friend, Master Cipher.

Beyond Master Cipher, many astrologers he had encountered in the Eastern Stargazing Heights of the Magus World carried a similar aura—though none as pronounced as the Goddess of Doom.

To put it bluntly, she was nothing more than a master of divination and prophecy, highly skilled in occult arts and curses.

In Faeloria, she might have been seen as an anomaly, but in the Magus World, such figures were not uncommon.

Sein’s calm and composed demeanor seemed to leave an impression on Morvanya.

Although she lacked the mature allure of the Succubus Queen, there was a quiet depth to her that belied her youthful appearance.

She stepped forward and gently pressed a slender finger against Sein’s forehead.

“It seems like my sister once divined your path. You still carried traces of her power,” she murmured.

With a faint smile, she withdrew her hand.

“I’ve removed that lingering divine power for you. No need to thank me.”

Sein frowned slightly at her words, recalling how he had once been relentlessly pursued by the Justice League. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

So that was how they had managed to track him so easily.

“If I no longer have the divine power of the Goddess of Luck in me... Does that mean I now carry yours instead?” he asked bluntly.

Beside him, the Succubus Queen let out an amused giggle.

Morvanya, however, looked flustered, as if caught off guard by his direct question.

Sein was right—Goddess of Doom had indeed left him with a trace of divine power.

Had he just arrived in Purgatory, he might not have noticed anything unusual.

But over the past few decades, he had made significant breakthroughs in analyzing laws and divine power.

The moment Morvanya’s fingertip touched his brow, he sensed something foreign within him.

In truth, the residue of the Goddess of Luck’s divine power had been too faint to have any real effect on him.

It had been so negligible that he had not even realized it was there.

This Goddess of Doom... she was far from benevolent.

The divine power of doom she had just left in him was anything but harmless.

Under the weight of Sein’s pointed gaze, Morvanya reluctantly raised her right hand and withdrew the divine power she had planted in him.

Yet Sein remained silent, his stare unwavering.

When she made no further move, he calmly reminded her, “I think there’s still a bit left. Goddess of Doom, you’d best remove all of your power.”

After a brief pause, he added, “I, for one, don’t particularly enjoy being cursed.”

At his words, the Succubus Queen’s laughter grew louder.

Morvanya, on the other hand, looked even more embarrassed.

With a flick of her hand, she waved away the remaining traces of her power.

This time, Sein felt nothing lingering within him.
