So I'm a Dragon, So What? - Game System-Chapter 51: A Meteor!
Chapter 51 - 51: A Meteor!
Using the elasticity of their webs, they successfully launched themselves high into the air, landing near Ronandt.
With their terrifying Level 30 stats, they towered over the humans, looking down on them with disdain.
Many human soldiers felt the immense pressure from these large spider monsters and hesitated, afraid to advance.
"Lilith, Lord Elliot, please support me!" the Hero quietly requested of the archer Lilith and the enigmatic Elliot beside him.
Julius knew Elliot was very strong; he had already casually killed a few spider monsters. But the Hero felt Elliot hadn't used his full strength yet.
However, he couldn't force it. The fact that this man was willing to help at all was already a huge favor. He decided he still had to rely on himself to protect Lord Ronandt!
Then, he charged towards the large spider monsters.
But just at that moment, Ronandt's eyes blazed like fire. "Everyone, get back! This old man is about to unleash his ultimate attack!" he roared.
Hearing this, Julius immediately jumped back without a second thought. Ronandt's ultimate attack was called Hellfire Magic.
This magic was also Earth Dragon Araba's ultimate. For a human to learn such a powerful spell was truly remarkable.
A violent torrent of fire erupted from Ronandt's magic circle, shooting towards the tens of thousands of spiders in the army.
The boiling flames quickly incinerated large numbers of spiders on the city walls. Some humans, unable to dodge in time, were also caught in the inferno and burned to death on the spot.
Such a large-scale spell was difficult to control, and once activated, it was almost impossible to stop.
Ronandt couldn't worry about collateral damage now; Hellfire Magic rained down directly onto the spider army.
However, such a massive spell also put the spiders on high alert. All the large spider monsters began to spew webs outwards.
Their skill points, unlike Kumoko's, were almost entirely invested in web-related abilities.
So, the webs they spewed came with various buffs like [Fire Resistance LV 10], [Unburnable], and [Toughness LV 10].
Quickly, under the effect of [Thread Control LV 10], a massive amount of webbing was rapidly woven into a gigantic protective umbrella, shielding all the spiders beneath it.
Ronandt's ultimate attack... couldn't even burn through the webs!
This was easy to understand. If Earth Dragon Araba cast Hellfire Magic, combined with his draconic energy breath, he could have easily pierced through such a web shield. But Ronandt couldn't.
Not only did he lack Araba's terrifying magic power, but he also didn't have a dragon's energy breath.
So, his Hellfire Magic was completely blocked. No matter how much more magic Ronandt poured into the spell, it still couldn't break through the spiders' defense.
"How can this be?!"
"Not even Lord Ronandt's magic can deal with the large spider monsters!" The human warriors wailed in despair. The ultimate attack they had waited so long for... had such little effect...
"Is this... the end?" The Hero and the Lord, watching this scene, both sucked in a cold breath. They had truly underestimated the spider monsters from the Elroe Labyrinth.
"Sigh... I guess I was expecting too much," Elliot sighed softly from the rear. "A human mage who got beaten by Kumoko... how strong could he really be?" He closed his eyes and whispered, "Heavenly Starfall!"
Heavenly Starfall. That is, Tendo Bansho.
All along, Elliot had been in the center of the human crowd. He hadn't intended to intervene. After all, the Queen Taratect's stats were only weakened by about half.
Half might seem like a lot, but for the Queen, whose base stats were close to twenty thousand, she was still a numerical monster! Attacking rashly at this point offered little chance of victory.
His original intention was to use the humans to fight the Queen Taratect. With their vast numbers, human wave tactics might be able to weaken her to some extent.
However, the Queen Taratect hadn't even made a move yet. Just the elite spider monsters she hatched using her [Egg Laying LV 10] skill were enough to render the humans helpless.
Humanity's human wave tactics were useless against the Queen; in fact, they were countered by the Queen's spider wave.
Meanwhile, Ronandt, after casting Hellfire Magic, had nearly depleted his mana. Casting another ultimate of that scale was probably impossible.
As the only high-level mage in the entire city, Ronandt was the hope of all its people.
But if his attack failed to achieve any success, the blow to the morale of everyone in the city would be immense.
There was only one chance. He had to act now!
Hellfire Magic couldn't burn through the web shield spun by the spiders. Honestly, if Ronandt possessed [Magic Supremacy LV 10] like Kumoko, he could burn through as many web shields as they made.
But Ronandt, despite his high level, actually had less magic power than Elliot. His Hellfire Magic hitting the web shield was like trying to dust it off.
It was hopeless, and brutally realistic. In this world, humans whose bodies hadn't been enhanced by MA Energy were simply too weak.
The only reason humans were still the dominant race in this part of the world was because the dragons had withdrawn, the elves and other races couldn't match human numbers, and the Demon Lords were kept in check by Heroes. This gave humans room to survive.
The warriors and soldiers on the city walls knew next to nothing about magic; they could only watch helplessly.
They never anticipated that Lord Ronandt's long-prepared large-scale spell wouldn't be able to break through the enemy's defenses. When it happened, they didn't know how to react, completely at a loss.
Constructing magic was like solving a math problem! You could ask these brutes to charge headfirst into battle and shed blood they were good at that.
But ask them to solve a complex mathematical problem like Euclid's fifth postulate? You might as well just give them a quick death! So, they couldn't offer Ronandt even a shred of help.
"Lord Ronandt's magic... actually..." The Lord, seeing this, felt a deep despair. Could it be... heavens, do you intend to doom my Flamebright City?!
Many warriors on the city walls, looking at Ronandt, stopped their attacks. They were speechless for a moment. If even Lord Ronandt couldn't harm these elite spider monsters, then what was the point of all their efforts? Many fell into deep despair.
Only Ronandt, still channeling Hellfire Magic, showed little change in emotion.
As a human, he had dedicated his entire life to achieving the [Pinnacle of Magic], to becoming the world's top mage, to protect humanity! He would not admit defeat!
The only failure he ever acknowledged in his life was being defeated by the Nightmare of the Labyrinth in the Elroe Labyrinth.
The Nightmare of the Labyrinth. That was the nickname people had given Kumoko.
This title was so infamous it even alarmed the Human Pontiff! Being defeated by a magical beast wasn't shameful, at least, that's what he believed.
Who hasn't been young and reckless? But Ronandt was no longer a hot-headed youth. In his twilight years, he had long since put victory and defeat aside.
Being beaten by a monster?
He could just use Space Magic to escape and try again another day. As one got older, one's skin also got thicker.
But this time, Ronandt was deeply shaken. Because that spider monster, the Nightmare of the Labyrinth, possessed [Magic Supremacy LV 10].
The very ability he had pursued his entire life... actually appeared in a spider monster! How unbelievable!
How incredible! It was like a pig solving Euclid's fifth postulate while humans could only stare blankly! As someone who held magic as his highest ideal, Ronandt was naturally devastated.
Facing the current spider army, Ronandt's heart remained surprisingly calm. He had already been defeated by the Nightmare of the Labyrinth once.
Even if he lost to spiders again, he wouldn't feel a shred of pain or regret.
"So what if this old man dies in battle today!" He madly poured mana into his spell construct. His MP plummeted like a stock market crash.
Ronandt unleashed his full aura, actually pushing back all nearby humans and spider monsters. His eyes were bloodshot, his killing intent palpable. His heart ached for all of humanity.
These spider monsters were slaughtering their way through; it ignited a burning rage within him. Even knowing he couldn't defeat these spiders, he was determined to do his utmost and leave the rest to fate!
His mana evaporated like water. Ronandt poured everything into the Hellfire Magic, increasing its power by another notch.
The tongues of flame licked at the spider silk. The incredibly fire-resistant silk now glowed like red-hot iron under the scorching Hellfire.
Ronandt knew this was his limit. With his magic, he simply couldn't break through the large spider monsters' defenses. Unless a miracle happened!
Thrum... Thrum...
Just as Ronandt was mustering all his strength to fight the spider monsters with everything he had... he was unaware that high above, the vast expanse of clouds had suddenly turned a brilliant gold, shining with dazzling radiance.
An immense, otherworldly star peeked through a corner of the golden clouds.
This was the first time Elliot was unleashing Tendo Bansho as a god!
A majestic aura surged through the heavens.
The entire sky was enveloped in golden light! An irregularly shaped, wedge-like celestial body plummeted from the sky. The immense pressure made countless people tremble.
"Look! What is that?!"
"A meteor! It's a meteor!" Some sighed in awe, others cried out in fear.
