Shrouded Seascape-Chapter 1132. Reconcile?
Chapter 1132. Reconcile?
Considered the peak of human technology, nukes were extremely powerful. Anna had no doubt that the figures in white armor, the remaining Fhtagnists, and the civilians in the city center had been obliterated.
Anna was underground during the explosion, so she was unharmed. However, the radioactive fallout was gnawing away at her body even at this moment. Of course, Anna didn't have the luxury of time to care about such a trivial issue.
She was more concerned about the identity of her attackers. The fact that they could mobilize a weapon of mass destruction just to deal with her meant that they could surely mobilize more than just that kind of weapon.
Where exactly were they from?
Just then, the crisp sound of leather shoes echoed behind her, interrupting her train of thought.
Anna put Olivia down on the ground and cast her massive eye toward the noises.
The newcomer was a middle-aged man in a suit and leather shoes, and he was walking confidently toward Anna while occasionally raising his right hand to look at the watch on his wrist.
"As I said, Plan 3 isn't reliable. Saying that a tactical nuke can easily deal with the world-renowned 315 is the same as underestimating her too much," the middle-aged man said. He sounded hoarse and tired as if he were a chain smoker.
"Hehe, so someone in charge has finally arrived?"
The tentacles retracted, and Anna's slender figure appeared before everyone once again.
"I'm pretty sure I've never encountered you guys before, both in the Subterranean Sea and on this surface world. What's with the hatred so intense that you sent me such a tremendous gift for our first meeting?"
The middle-aged man chuckled. He put his hand down and straightened his tie before saying, "You sure are humorous, Miss Anna. Anyway, let me introduce myself first. You can call me Dr. Wilson. I'm a member of the Foundation, and I'd like to keep my position confidential."
"The Foundation?" Anna's pupils constricted. The name didn't bring back any good memories for her.
They're not the same Foundation as the one in the Subterranean Sea, are they? Anna thought before asking, "Who exactly are you people?"
"Hmm, how should I explain it? You know that the IMF's core philosophy is everything for mankind's sake, right? Well, our core philosophy is to protect the IMF.
"Just as humans cannot perceive the IMF's existence, the members of the IMF cannot perceive our existence as well.
"The fact that extremely dangerous Anomalies are just one layer away from the human world is too much of a risk for us to bear, so it was decided that two layers of protection are imperative.
"Memetic agents, anti-memetic anomalies, and crises that are truly capable of threatening mankind are considered Crimson Threat Level events. Of course, it is our responsibility to handle such events."
So they're like an IMF that protects the IMF? Anna found it absurd. She never thought that such an organization existed on the surface world.
"No need to be surprised. Actually, our members have made contact with you a long time ago. The three dreamers you killed were our members. Honestly, when we received their transmission, we really thought we had misheard.
"You should know that all of us have analyzed your fleshly body. It was a genuine human body, and we never thought that you actually had another fleshly body.
"Miss Anna, you're an enemy, but I must say, I really am in awe of your methods."
Anna's eyes narrowed upon hearing that. The so-called dreamers were actually members of their organization. Their ambush finally made sense.
The enmity between both sides hadn't appeared out of nowhere, as they had been paying attention to Anna for quite a while now.
Just then, the air screeched, and Roy landed in front of Anna with his wife and child in his arms. His face was unsightly as he remarked, "There's an army outside. We can't get out. We've been surrounded."
It seemed that the enemies had prepared more than just one way to deal with Anna. Clearly, they had gone all out just to kill Anna, the calamity of humanity.
Although the conclusions Anna had reached on her own were just baseless assumptions, she could say one thing for sure—she was in big trouble.
Just then, Wilson uttered words that were completely unexpected. "Actually, I'm here to talk to you. I'm hoping that perhaps we can reconcile."
"Reconcile?" Anna pointed at the huge mushroom cloud in the distance. Her tone carried a hint of sarcasm as she replied, "You're talking about wanting to reconcile despite seeing that? Don't you think that's a bit absurd? Reconcile? To hell with that!"
On the outside, Anna was furious, but this was just her pretense. At this moment, she was carefully prodding Wilson's mind in an attempt to alter his memories.
Of course, Wilson's mind was clearly under protection, but Anna had no issues dealing with that as long as she had enough time. Indeed, what she needed at the moment was time.
"Will anger even do you good at this point? You've been surrounded, so the advantage is ours. Actually, it was difficult for us to put down our weapons and talk to you like this," Wilson said.
He raised his right hand to glance at his watch before putting it down.
"How about this? Come back with us and tell us more about your species, the so-called Subterranean Sea, and God Fhtagn. Join us and assist us in completing our research, and I guarantee that no one will make a move against you in the future."
"Of course, you can also—" Wilson's calm face suddenly became extremely solemn.
Then, Anna heard a faint A.I voice echoing from Wilson's earpiece.
"Time anchor set; multi-space locks closed; reality modifier off; and the Slayer has been equipped with 091. Teleporting in five, four, three..."
A cold shiver ran down Anna's spine before engulfing her. At this moment, she felt like her natural enemy was targeting her. It turned out that the other party had no intentions of reconciling with her at all.
They were determined to kill Anna from the moment they attacked her.
Anna was buying time, but Wilson was doing the same? His frequent glances at his watch were to check the time. He had proposed a reconciliation to placate Anna and make her lower her guard, which would increase the success rate of their mission.
Anna had no idea what was going to happen, but she knew that it couldn't be good. Her figure vibrated at a high frequency to melt into the ground, but she remained unmoving!
They clearly knew Anna's special abilities, so how could they not be wary of them?
Clearly, an Anomaly had directly sealed Anna's special ability.
Anna took to the skies and streaked across the air, fleeing into the distance. But no matter how fast she moved, the sense of crisis followed her as if it were her shadow. It persisted and grew even stronger as time went on.
As soon as Anna covered herself in her green, corrosive flames, the sense of crisis engulfing her heart finally reached its peak.
Crack!
The ground cracked open, and barbed chains moved like vines, wrapping tightly around Anna's legs. Then, as her vision blurred, her cognitive functions slowed down before seemingly shutting down.
Just then, a portal in the shape of an inverted triangle appeared above Anna.
Revealed within the portal was an old woman whose eyes, nose, mouth, and ears were sealed. The old woman's slender arms were so long that they nearly touched the ground, and her right hand was dragging a frightening three-meter-long saber.
