Shrouded Seascape-Chapter 1129. Preparations
Chapter 1129. Preparations
Anna stood by the window with her arms crossed. She was staring at Gao Zhiming hitting the punching bag in front of him. The muscles beneath Gao Zhiming's skin had gotten even more robust, and his youthful face was growing more and more similar to Charles' face back then.
The familiar face made Anna reminisce about what they had gone through.
"Big Sis, what's wrong?" Gao Zhiming asked with a teacup in both hands.
Anna returned to her senses and took the teacup before drinking its contents in one go.
"It's nothing. Anyway, you should stop what you've been doing. That kind of training at your level won't be of much help. And what I taught you before is enough for you to defend yourself."
"But this is all I can do right now. If I stop it, what am I supposed to do?" Gao Zhiming asked, sounding hesitant. Just then, he recalled something, and his eyes lit up. "If you want me to stop training, then can you teach me how to use those strange things, Big Sis? I mean, those things they call anomalies.
"I realized that everyone became powerful once they started using those things."
"No." Anna decisively rejected Gao Zhiming's request. Then, she lightly flicked the cigarette between her fingers into the teacup.
An Anomaly could indeed make its user powerful thanks to its bizarre abilities, but every Anomaly had its own side effects. Gao Zhiming would indeed become more powerful with an Anomaly on hand, but the risk wasn't worth it.
Gao Zhiming looked at the white ceramic teacup in his hand with an aggrieved face. He quietly tapped the traces of red lipstick on it.
Upon seeing that, Anna reached out and pulled him into her arms. "Your task is to live safely. You need to live until you fall into the Subterranean Sea. You don't need to worry about anything else."
With food to eat, clothes to wear, and a good big sister by his side, Gao Zhiming felt like he was in heaven. After all, he once used to scavenge for food. However, he was already twelve years old, which meant that he had slightly matured.
And even he could feel it—they were in the midst of a calm before the storm.
"Aren't we about to go to war? I saw everyone preparing for it. And I really just want to protect you, Big Sis."
"Did you not hear what I just said? Your task is to live safely. You absolutely cannot be in any incident until you've fallen into the Subterranean Sea. You're my only key to the Subterranean Sea."
Even though he could feel the oppressive pressure Anna was emanating, Gao Zhiming still spoke, albeit his voice sounded like a mosquito's droning. "A-am I just a tool to you, then, Big Sis?"
Anna was stunned. Was the little brat throwing a tantrum? She patted his head with her hand. "No, of course, you're not a tool. You're my husband."
"Then, do you care more about the future me than the current me?"
Anna looked at Gao Zhiming's eyes in surprise. Was he jealous? Was he jealous of himself? He had grown up slightly, yet he was already so troublesome. Charles was indeed Charles.
Anna lowered her head and gave him a light peck. Shaking her head, she replied, "Of course not. The future you is a scumbag. Compared to him, I prefer the current you."
Gao Zhiming licked his lips, savoring the sweet taste before grinning at Anna's response. He spread his arms and lunged at his big sister.
"I like you, too, Big Sis. It would be great if I could be with you forever."
Just as Anna was about to say something, there was a knock on the door. She stuffed the cup in her hand into Gao Zhiming's arms and walked over to the door.
When she opened the door, she saw Jackal standing outside.
"High Priestess," Jackal said respectfully, "The leaders have arrived. We've investigated and confirmed that they do not have any Anomalies protecting their minds."
"Great. Take our people and move. Don't keep our allies waiting."
An hour later, Anna went to a five-star hotel and met with a burly man wearing sunglasses. Several fierce-looking men in military uniforms were standing behind him.
Bizarre creatures resembling wireworms sprouted from their cuffs and collars. The wriggling "wireworms" looked absolutely disgusting, yet they couldn't be bothered to conceal them. After all, this was also a form of intimidation. frёewebηovel.cѳm
"I heard you wanted to discuss some business with me? I really want to know what kind of business a group of flies huddling together for warmth has for me. Isn't it better to keep circling that pile of shit? I'm talking about Subterranean London, of course," the burly man said contemptuously.
To make matters worse, the burly man's eyes behind the sunglasses brazenly sized up every inch of Anna's gorgeous figure.
Anna's mouth curled up slightly. She sat in front of the burly man and grazed the curves of her slender figure with her fingers. "This is a big business. I need some cannon fodder, and your men are perfect. I need as many of them as possible."
Despite hearing the word "cannon fodder," the burly man didn't get angry at all. "Sure, but can you afford to pay us? Our fees are very high."
"John, do we really have to talk about payment?" Anna's tone suddenly changed, sounding disappointed as she said, "Have you forgotten that you still owe me a big favor? If I hadn't intervened, your child would have died."
The burly man's face turned ugly. He frowned and pondered for a long time before finally clenching his fists and slamming them hard on the table. "Damn it! This is the last time! After this, we're even!"
With that, he stood up and walked toward the back door with his subordinates.
When Anna stood up, a female Fhtagnist behind her pulled out a chair. Then, she held out the document in her hands with both hands.
The document was full of names, and more than half of those names had a checkmark drawn next to them.
Taking a pen, Anna drew a big check mark next to the words "John V. Furlan."
"Hmm... they're too easy. Since they don't bother putting up any protection for their minds, they're like sitting ducks for me to control."
Jackal walked up to Anna and asked, "High Priestess, this batch of people only numbers a little over a hundred, and they aren't that strong. This subordinate of yours believes that those people won't be that useful against the IMF."
"I agree, but even though they're useless, they can still muddy the waters by then," Anna replied and looked at the names on the document in her hand.
The document was a list of people whose memories she had altered, and they were all leaders of anomalous organizations.
The surface world was like a barrel of gunpowder, and these people were the fuses Anna had found to ignite the powder keg.
Once it was time, those people would make a move together with her Fhtagnist, and the powder keg would surely explode. The effects of herd mentality also meant that they would move according to the plan.
Anna had done all these, as she believed that skirmishes were meaningless. If she wanted to avenge herself, she had to start a world war. Anna could already foresee the IMF's fate by then.
"We're almost done. There are only five people left, and once I'm done altering their memories, we'll light the fuse three days later," Anna said in satisfaction. She then threw the document back at the female Fhtagnist.
