Seizing Destiny From Heavens Hands-Chapter 475: Long Time No See Since Our Parting
Chapter 475: Long Time No See Since Our Parting
Five days later.
Shen Mo refined two clusters of Hundred-Refined Flame Spirits and had the Heart of Green Lotus Flame absorb them.
Afterward, he strolled leisurely around the outpost as usual.
Cultivation should alternate between tension and relaxation—otherwise, it was too easy to fall out of sync with both oneself and the world.
At that moment, he suddenly saw a team arriving at the outpost entrance.
Wang Xing’an brought a few people over to greet them.
Judging by their attire, they were Demon Suppression Guards from the Vermilion Bird Fortress.
Information surfaced in his mind.
Just two months ago, the Vermilion Bird Fortress had finally established its own outpost, after going through many hardships.
If it hadn’t been for the Demon Suppression Guards from the Black Tortoise, Azure Dragon, and White Tiger Fortresses lending their assistance, the completion of that outpost might have been delayed even further.
After all, the Vermilion Bird Fortress had suffered a major catastrophe over a hundred years ago.
Even the Demon Suppression General of Vermilion Bird Fortress, Zhu Xuanji, had perished as a result.
The fortress had never recovered, becoming the weakest among the ten—an unfortunate reality.
Shen Mo was about to leave.
Socializing wasn’t his strength, and he didn’t want to waste time on such matters.
But out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of a cold and handsome figure.
"Huh? Someone familiar?"
"He was summoned by the Will of Heaven too?"
Shen Mo's interest was instantly piqued.
He couldn’t be more familiar with that name.
Ye Yan!
Once a genius disciple of the Jade Cauldron Sect, he had later defected and joined the Ten Thousand Demon Nation, even becoming one of Demon Emperor Gu Ming’s princes for a time.
That year, when Shen Mo faced Gu Ming in a decisive battle, Gu Ming had no choice but to extract the essence blood from all his princes, causing nearly all of them to die.
At the time, Shen Mo had felt that Ye Yan was clever and had great fortune on his side. He was sure Ye Yan would notice the problem with the Demon Emperor’s essence blood and might find a way to survive.
Sure enough, his guess was right.
Not only had Ye Yan survived, but he had somehow ended up in the Sea of Demon Suppression and become a Demon Suppression Guard at the Vermilion Bird Fortress.
"It's said that some extremely lucky cultivators stumble upon Sea Eyes while crossing the ocean, and are transported by them to faraway and unfamiliar lands."
"With Ye Yan's fortune, finding a Sea Eye isn’t anything surprising."
Shen Mo smiled slightly.
He had a general idea of what Ye Yan had been through during this time.
“Eh? Shen Mo, you’re here too!”
“Perfect! Come over and meet everyone.”
“These are Demon Suppression Guards from the Vermilion Bird Fortress. Their outpost recently experienced an earthquake, so they’ve come to ask if we’ve encountered something similar.”
Wang Xing’an was very pleased to see Shen Mo and hurriedly pulled him over.
He even introduced him one by one.
“This is Qian Yongping, Commander Qian, head of the Vermilion Forty-One Outpost.”
“These are his most trusted subordinates.”
Wang Xing’an laughed heartily.
Shen Mo looked at the man.
Qian Yongping was an ordinary-looking middle-aged man.
He had dark skin and a sturdy build.
At first glance, one might mistake him for a farmer.
But on closer inspection, one would notice the sharp light in his eyes and the taut muscles beneath his skin, hidden but not dormant.
Clearly, he was a master of the Peak Venerable Realm with formidable strength.
Upon hearing Wang Xing’an’s introduction, Qian Yongping couldn’t help but look surprised.
He gave Shen Mo a once-over, then said with admiration, “I’ve long heard of Shen Mo, the one who dominates the top of the Earth Rankings. I never imagined you’d be this young.”
“Your age… you haven’t even reached a hundred yet, have you?”
A cultivator at the Divine Transformation Realm could live up to three thousand years.
Those at the Divine Palace and Dharma Manifestation Realms had lifespans of four to five thousand years.
Qian Yongping, for example, had been stationed at the Vermilion Bird Fortress for over two thousand years—he was already of the older generation.
That someone as young as Shen Mo had reached such heights was, in his view, unbelievable.
Shen Mo smiled and nodded. “Commander Qian, a pleasure to meet you.”
Qian Yongping clicked his tongue in amazement. “Old Wang, if this overly-young Commander Shen could come to our Vermilion Bird Fortress, that would be fantastic.”
He winked and said, “How about putting in a word with General Zhang for me? Ask if he can let him go?”
Wang Xing’an let out a cold snort through his nose. “Let him go? You wish!”
“Shen Mo is the pride of our Xuanwu Fortress!”
He chuckled and lowered his voice. “To tell you the truth, Old Zhang’s already planning to appoint him as the next fortress master!”
Qian Yongping gasped and immediately gave a bitter laugh. “What a pity. But well, as long as he’s one of us humans, no matter which fortress he’s in, it’s still a win.”
He gave Shen Mo a thumbs-up. “Young man, I’ve got high hopes for you!”
Shen Mo smiled and nodded. “Thank you, Commander Qian.”
Qian Yongping laughed heartily. “Right, we’ve got a genius of our own at the Vermilion Bird Fortress. Look, it’s him!”
He pointed to the cold and handsome young man behind him. “Ye Yan, a Profound-rank Demon Suppression Guard, bearer of an Heavenly Flame, with extraordinary talent!”
Wang Xing’an exclaimed, “Heavenly Flame? Impressive! I didn’t think our human race could produce a talent capable of controlling such a thing!”
Qian Yongping grinned proudly.
With Ye Yan being praised, it made him look good too.
“Hm? Ye Yan, your expression doesn’t look too well,” Qian Yongping said, noticing Ye Yan’s pale face.
Ye Yan forced a laugh. “I’m just a little too excited after seeing Commander Shen in person.”
Qian Yongping laughed. “No worries. It’s only natural for geniuses to admire one another.”
“How about this—Old Wang and I need to discuss some important matters. You go spend some time with Commander Shen. Maybe you’ll learn something from him about cultivation.”
Ye Yan felt a jolt in his heart. “Th-this might not be appropriate… Commander Shen must be busy with cultivation…”
But Qian Yongping was already walking away with Wang Xing’an.
As he brushed past Ye Yan, he muttered in a voice only the two of them could hear, “Don’t miss this chance! Try to dig up some intel about the new model cloudship!”
Ye Yan looked utterly miserable.
Get information from Shen Mo?
Spare me!
Once Qian Yongping and the others had gone off into the distance,
Shen Mo finally turned to Ye Yan with a half-smile on his face. “It’s been a long time since we parted.”
“Should I call you Fellow Daoist Ye of the Jade Cauldron Sect… or the Eleventh Prince of the Ten Thousand Demon Nation?”
A bitter taste filled Ye Yan’s mouth.
As expected.
Shen Mo knew everything.
Including the fact that he had defected to the Ten Thousand Demon Nation and become the eleventh prince under Gu Ming!
When he first arrived at the Vermilion Bird Fortress and heard the name Shen Mo, he had been startled.
But he’d always believed this Shen Mo must be someone else with the same name.
He had thought that the Shen Mo he knew—even if he cultivated at a fast pace—couldn’t possibly have become this terrifying.
Not to mention, the Shen Mo he knew was an alchemist, not someone versed in military engineering.
How could he have designed the new model cloudship and topped the Earth Rankings?
But now, having seen that familiar face with his own eyes, he finally understood.
This Shen Mo was the same Shen Mo!
Ye Yan forced another smile. “Young Sect Master Shen… back then, I was misled by the powers of the demon race and ended up joining the Ten Thousand Demon Nation.”
“But I’ve since come to my senses. That’s why I came to the Sea of Demon Suppression and joined the Vermilion Bird Fortress, to contribute my strength to fighting against the demons.”
“I’ve accumulated a lot of merit lately. If the Young Sect Master needs anything, I’m willing to serve at your command.”
“I’ll give my all, without hesitation!”
Shen Mo smiled without responding.
He didn’t intend to expose Ye Yan’s betrayal of humanity and defection to the demon race just yet.
If he did it now, how would he fleece him later?
Letting this fat sheep walk right in without shearing him properly would be a complete waste!
