Reborn to Outshine My Ex and His White Moonlight-Chapter 410: I Saw It
Chapter 410: Chapter 410: I Saw It
Li Huan paused for a moment, then continued, "Although Du Qian doesn’t talk much, I know he’s been testing me all along. First, he directly pointed out who I was, then asked for my opinion on the test report, and finally took out the photo of Lin Zhiyi’s mother-and-daughter family of three. I’m not sure what his real purpose is, so I pretended not to notice anything and left."
Gong Chen turned his ring, his voice cold and deep: "He doesn’t just want to test your medical skills. He’s hoping you’ll relay the matter about the photo to the person who took away Xingxing and Zhiyi."
Li Huan nodded but suddenly felt something was off.
"Wait, the first time he met me, he already knew I wasn’t the man who took Lin Zhiyi’s mother and daughter away? Looked down on me? And here I was acting three parts indifferent and seven parts furious when I saw the photo!"
"It means he’s already figured out that I’m the one who took Zhiyi and Xingxing away," Gong Chen affirmed.
"How does he know that?" Li Huan asked suspiciously.
Gong Chen’s movements and whereabouts were always managed by a designated person. If someone noticed him, he would be informed immediately to relocate.
The paparazzi downstairs were staking out Lin Zhiyi and Sang Li; they didn’t even know Gong Chen was here.
So how did Du Qian know?
As they were talking, Chen Jin handed over Du Qian’s profile.
"There’s nothing special here. Studied diligently, has a good reputation among his teachers and classmates, had a college romance that ended without resolution, and returned to work in Gang City after graduating. Du Qian’s life is straightforward, he gets along well with patients and colleagues, even earning commendations and flags from the hospital."
Chen Jin pointed to the last page of the profile.
Gong Chen flipped through it briefly, his eyes lingering on his colleagues’ end-of-year evaluation.
"Start investigating this person."
Li Huan leaned in curiously: "Qiao Yunke? Why does that name sound familiar? Why are you investigating her?"
"Would you write an evaluation for your colleague using so many different descriptive words?"
"End-of-year evaluations are the worst. I think it’s a miracle if I don’t curse, and now you want me to craft descriptions?" Li Huan complained.
Gong Chen raised his eyebrows at him.
Right—exactly the kind of workplace resentment.
Li Huan glanced at the evaluation: "A physician as refreshing as a spring breeze... when we’re busy, who among us isn’t shouting? Spring breeze? More like typhoon. From the handwriting, it looks like a woman."
Chen Jin took the profile. "I’ll have someone investigate."
As soon as he finished speaking, the sound of a door opening came from outside.
Before Chen Jin and Li Huan could react, Gong Chen had already bolted out.
He happened to see Lin Zhiyi at the door, appearing ready to leave.
"Where are you going?" Gong Chen grabbed her wrist, his voice tinged with tension.
Lin Zhiyi winced, "Let go, it hurts!"
Gong Chen eased his grip slightly but didn’t let go: "Where are you headed?"
"Nowhere. I’m waiting for Liao Yi. She ate too much at the hotel and said her stomach felt awful."
Lin Zhiyi raised her other hand, holding the stomach medicine.
Xingxing’s health wasn’t good. She could leave without extra clothes, but medicine was always stocked up.
So Liao Yi had called to ask if she had any medicine.
Initially, Lin Zhiyi had planned to deliver it, but Liao Yi was worried Xingxing would wake up looking for her mom, insisting she’d come herself.
Just as she mentioned Liao Yi, the woman walked in looking pale.
"I—I’m here."
Lin Zhiyi shook off Gong Chen’s hand and hurriedly helped Liao Yi into the room.
Liao Yi clutched her stomach and collapsed onto the sofa.
Seeing this, Li Huan stepped forward to give her a quick check.
"You’ve turned your stomach into a bucket?"
"I just indulged a bit—it came back at me faster than expected." Liao Yi sighed and turned to Lin Zhiyi. "Zhiyi, sorry. I can’t help you fetch your things from the guesthouse anymore."
Hearing this, Gong Chen turned and walked over to Lin Zhiyi.
"You want to go back?"
"I left in such a rush, only packed two sets of clothes, and Xingxing’s favorite toys and books are still at home. She’s been asking me about her small water bottle, the one she DIY decorated with stickers. She’s asked me multiple times. I wanted Liao Yi to get them, she knows where I kept them."
"I’ll go," Li Huan volunteered.
"A man going to pack clothes for Zhiyi?" Liao Yi pointed out.
Li Huan stepped back—no way he’d dare.
Gong Chen glanced at Lin Zhiyi. "I’ll go with you to get the things."
Lin Zhiyi thought of Gong Chen’s status and wanted to refuse.
Unexpectedly, Liao Yi flipped sides: "If Xingxing wakes up, I’ll take care of her. You and Third Young Master go get it—it’ll be faster if you pack your things yourself."
Lin Zhiyi shot her a mild glare: "He’s too conspicuous."
"As long as we don’t stay too long, I can handle it," Gong Chen said.
Since he spoke, Lin Zhiyi couldn’t find a reason to refuse and nodded.
The two disguised themselves and set out.
Along the way.
Gong Chen tried to ease Lin Zhiyi’s nerves: "I’ve had someone notify the nearby media about a mysterious person donating to the kindergarten. All media should be stationed at the kindergarten now."
Hearing this, Lin Zhiyi responded softly with an "Mm."
Mentioning the kindergarten reminded her of something.
"The teacher said someone named Gong paid for all the injured’s medical expenses. Was that you?"
"Yes."
"Then why did the teacher say you’re in the blood donation group? Why did he say you couldn’t donate blood?" Lin Zhiyi turned to stare at Gong Chen.
She always felt Gong Chen was hiding something from her.
Without any reaction, Gong Chen firmly gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles visibly taut: "I caught a cold a few days ago and have been taking medicine. The doctor said I couldn’t donate blood. I felt sorry for the kids, so I donated money instead."
"You didn’t answer my question." Lin Zhiyi turned her body to face him.
Why would he inexplicably appear in the blood donation group?
Just then, the traffic light turned red, and Gong Chen stopped the car.
He lowered his gaze. "Do you believe in dreams? I’ve dreamt about Xingxing before. She was a little older, very sweet, but later she was covered in blood, lying on the operating table."
Lin Zhiyi’s heart sank sharply, her face turning pale.
Her Xingxing had appeared early—but why was she in Gong Chen’s dream?
"And then?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Gong Chen saw Lin Zhiyi’s discomfort and withheld further explanation, not wanting to frighten her. "That’s all. Don’t overthink it. Xingxing’s illness will definitely be alright."
Lin Zhiyi understood Gong Chen thought she was worried about Xingxing’s illness.
But she didn’t know how to respond, so she just nodded lightly.
"Did Xingxing say anything else in your dream?"
"Yes."
"What?" Lin Zhiyi immediately raised her head to look at him.
"She told me to treat you well."
"She wouldn’t say that!" Lin Zhiyi instantly refuted.
"You seem to know her well?"
Gong Chen’s gaze deepened, his probing eyes seemingly able to see through everything.
Afraid he’d catch on, Lin Zhiyi looked ahead and said, "It’s green light now."
Gong Chen resumed driving without asking more.
When they arrived near the guesthouse, they noticed the surroundings were far quieter than earlier in the evening.
As Gong Chen anticipated, the media were all at the kindergarten waiting for the mysterious figure.
Lin Zhiyi had discreetly asked the staff to keep the backdoor open so she and Gong Chen could sneak into the guesthouse. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Upon entering the bedroom, Lin Zhiyi immediately began packing.
Gong Chen started observing the room.
The room wasn’t large, divided into two areas by sheer curtains.
One side was the living area—a warm-toned space with a clean and tidy bed surrounded by children’s toys and books.
Just looking at it, Gong Chen could imagine the mother and daughter sitting on the bed reading storybooks together.
The other side was a work desk, covered in small trinkets Lin Zhiyi had designed, and stacks of design drafts piled nearby.
Gong Chen walked over and flipped through the design drafts.
From the crooked lines in the early attempts to the later, more subtle adjustments, Lin Zhiyi had spent two years honing her skills.
Some drafts were crumpled, clearly ones Lin Zhiyi had squeezed and painstakingly smoothed out again.
Feeling the folds on the paper, Gong Chen understood the immense pressure Lin Zhiyi had endured.
As he continued flipping through, Lin Zhiyi suddenly pressed her hands over the drafts in a panic.
"Don’t look!"
As she tried to shield them with her body, Gong Chen leaned in close, step by step, pinning her against the desk.
With both arms propped on the table, he trapped her in the middle.
"I’ve already seen them."
