When Su Mu reached the main hall and saw the two equally outstanding princes standing face-to-face, she couldn't help but exclaim, "Sixth Prince? Prince Jing?"

After enduring the first two marriage proposals, Su Mu had thought she could remain calm. But upon seeing these two men, her heart still trembled uncontrollably.

This... this is also for my daughter's hand in marriage?

Jun Hui and Jun Mo both gave a respectful bow. "Madam Su."

Su Mu quickly stepped aside, flustered. "Please, don't! How can I, a humble woman, accept such courtesies from you?"

As Su Li caught sight of Jun Hui, her gaze instantly turned icy. To avoid drawing attention to her unusual reaction, she quickly lowered her head.

Jun Hui, have you changed your target?

Jun Hui stepped forward and said, "Madam Su, I have long admired your esteemed daughter. Today, I have come to formally propose. Here is the list of gifts—please take a look."

He handed over a stack of documents detailing the extravagant gifts. There was no need to inspect them; their value was undoubtedly immense.

Before Su Mu could respond, Jun Mo stepped forward as well. "Madam Su, beautiful maidens are sought after by gentlemen. Today, I have also come to propose to Miss Su. Here is the list of gifts—please review it."

Holding the two lists in her hands, Su Mu felt as though she were clutching two scalding hot potatoes. With her husband absent, how could she, a mere housewife, make such a monumental decision?

All she could do was send someone once more to urgently summon Su Fu back home while inviting the guests into the reception hall for tea.

Upon entering, Jun Hui and Jun Mo immediately noticed the two other suitors seated inside, their expressions awkward.

The four men stared at each other silently, none knowing what to say.

Su Mu cleared her throat softly. "Please, let us drink tea."

This was her first time encountering such a situation, and she truly didn't know what else to say.

Meanwhile, Su Fu, who had been detained by the Emperor after the morning court session, was growing increasingly uneasy. However, the Emperor's demeanor did not appear angry.

The Emperor chuckled warmly. "Lord Su, there's no need to be nervous. I've only kept you here so we might converse as sovereign and subject."

These words only made Su Fu even more anxious.

What could the Emperor possibly want to discuss with him, a mere subject?

"Your Majesty," Su Fu began hesitantly, "if I've erred in any way, please enlighten me directly."

The Emperor paused thoughtfully before asking, "Lord Su, how old is your eldest daughter this year?"

Though puzzled, Su Fu answered truthfully. "My daughter is fourteen years old and has yet to come of age."

"Have you already arranged a betrothal for your esteemed daughter?"

Su Fu was about to answer when he suddenly remembered his daughter's instructions from earlier that morning. At the time, he had found it strange—why would the Emperor, burdened with countless affairs of state, concern himself with his family matters?

Now, however, his heart raced as he recalled her words and replied accordingly. "Yes, a betrothal has been arranged."

The Emperor's expression remained inscrutable as he continued. "Which fortunate young man has won her hand?"

Just as Su Fu was about to reply, an eunuch hurried in and whispered something into the Emperor's ear.

The Emperor's expression darkened slightly. "How troublesome! Bring all of them before me!"

"Yes, Your Majesty."

As the eunuch turned to leave, the Emperor added, "And bring the Lady of Changning County as well."

Su Fu's eyes widened. Why does the Emperor wish to see Lian'er?

"Your Majesty," he pleaded, "my daughter is still young and inexperienced. If she has done anything to displease you, it is entirely my fault for failing to discipline her properly. Please, punish me instead!"

With that, he knelt and kowtowed.

The Emperor waved dismissively. "Rise. I hold no ill will toward your daughter."

Once Su Fu had risen, the Emperor cast him a meaningful glance.

"Lord Su, your eldest daughter is truly one of a kind in the capital."

These words left Su Fu speechless. He naturally believed his daughter was unique—but hearing it from the Emperor carried a weight he couldn't ignore.

Back at the Su residence, Su Mu waited anxiously for Su Fu's return, only to be greeted instead by the arrival of an imperial eunuch.

"Your humble servant greets Prince Jing, Sixth Prince, Lady of Changning County, two young masters, and Madam Su."

Jun Mo glanced at him. "Xiao Linzi, why are you here?"

"To answer Prince Jing's inquiry, His Majesty has sent me to escort the two princes, the county lady, and the two young masters to the palace for an audience."

Su Mu gripped her daughter's hand worriedly.

Su Li reassured her gently. "Mother, there's nothing to worry about."

Jun Mo stepped forward. "Madam Su, please rest assured. As long as I am here, not a single hair on Lian'er's head will be harmed."

These words from Prince Jing eased Su Mu's worries slightly. However, when she heard him address her daughter so familiarly as "Lian'er," she shot her daughter a questioning glance.

Su Li discreetly glared at Jun Mo, who responded with a faint smile.

Seeing Jun Mo take the initiative to show his devotion, Jun Hui followed suit. "Madam Su, Father likely only wishes to inquire about this matter. There's no need to worry. Once Father finishes questioning her, I will ensure Miss Su returns safely to your household."

Su Li instructed Wang Xia, her personal maid. "Wang Xia, please escort Mother to rest."

"Yes, Miss."

Su Li turned to Su Mu. "Mother, don't worry. Father is still in the palace. Everything will be fine."

Su Mu nodded reluctantly, watching as the group departed.

Outside the gates, the gathered crowd automatically parted to make way for them. Despite the veil obscuring her face, the aura emanating from Su Li commanded admiration. The veil only added to her mysterious allure.

Little did Su Li know that her simple attire—a green robe, a single jade hairpin, and a veil—would soon spark a trend of imitation among the women of the capital. But that was a story for another time.
