Chapter 837: Chapter 837: Do They Look Like a Family of Three?

Just as Catherine Ford wrapped herself in the thin blanket and was about to fall asleep, Benjamin Jones came back, bringing with him three boxes of instant noodles.

Catherine thought she had seen wrong, rubbed her eyes to make sure that what Benjamin Jones brought was indeed instant noodles, her mouth slightly agape, "Lawyer Jones, what is this?"

She couldn’t figure out why someone as refined and proud as Benjamin Jones would actually bring instant noodles, and to eat them at that? For a moment, it dawned on her, oh, this man is also human.

"I inquired a bit, the highway’s been closed, it might take another three to four hours to clear it up. Let’s make do and eat something first, otherwise it’s going to be tough." Benjamin Jones handed her a box and waited until she had it firmly in her hands to say, "It’s not hot anymore, eat while it’s still warm."

"Oh." The instant noodles that Catherine touched were still warm. She obediently made an "oh" sound, opened the box, and the familiar fragrance wafted out. She sniffed with her nose and took a sip of the hot soup before asking curiously, "Lawyer Jones, where did you get these instant noodles and the boiling water?"

"There’s a gas station five hundred meters up ahead," Benjamin Jones replied, as he handed another box to Reed.

Reed took it with trepidation, realizing it was indeed somewhat cool. But since he only had a few buns in the morning and had been driving for over three hours, he was starving and lowered his head to start eating.

Suddenly, the entire car was filled with the aroma of instant noodles. Catherine glanced at the man beside her with a guilty conscience, noticing that he also opened a box. Although they were both eating the same instant noodles, the man’s movements weren’t slow, and yet he managed to eat with a luxurious aura as if he was savoring delicacies from mountains and seas.

She couldn’t help but sneak a few glances, but on the fourth peek, the man suddenly looked towards her.

Caught in the act, Catherine’s face flushed as she made an awkward laugh, lowered her head, and continued to eat her noodles. She then saw the man take out a box of sausages from another plastic bag, "Here, have some of this if it’s not enough."

After saying that, he placed it beside Catherine.

Catherine’s movements slowed as she looked down at the sausages and then at the man. Did he think she was peeking at him because her portion wasn’t enough?

Boom!

In an instant, Catherine was so mortified she wished she could burrow into a mouse hole. It took her a while to compose herself, "I... I’ve had enough, thank you."

"Boss, I haven’t had enough." Just after she finished speaking, Reed, who had finished a bowl of instant noodles in three minutes, said with a slight tone of grievance.

Benjamin Jones glanced at Catherine and then turned to Reed, pulling another box and passing it forward.

Reed was satisfied, but Catherine felt even more awkward. She could only bow her head and continue eating the instant noodles, eating carefully to avoid spilling the broth on the blanket.

Turning his head, Benjamin Jones saw Catherine’s mannerisms and the thought crossed his mind, Is this woman a hamster?

Regardless, the three of them finished their meal quickly. Reed gathered the three boxes, wrapped them tightly in a plastic bag, and placed them to one side,

preparing to dispose of them when they got off the car.

By this time, other people outside had seen the instant noodles previously brought by Benjamin Jones and followed suit to the gas station. Unfortunately, the inventory at the small shop in the gas station on the highway was limited. By the time everyone rushed over, some got lucky while others found nothing left, cursing and grumbling on the side.

Having had her fill, Catherine felt warm all over under the blanket. It didn’t take long for sleepiness to hit her. At first, she tried to resist, but soon she collapsed to one side.

Turning his head, Benjamin Jones saw the woman’s sleeping profile, his lips curled up. Then he gently laid her head on his shoulder.

Reed was bored and happened to catch this scene through the rearview mirror, feeling a tingle on his scalp. He probably realized something significant was happening, especially since the man in the mirror conducted these actions expressionlessly, still maintaining his usual stern demeanor.

For a moment, Reed couldn’t help but doubt his life, was he overthinking?

Catherine Ford, fast asleep, was completely unaware of what had happened. Instead, her head kept sliding until it eventually rested directly on Benjamin Jones’s thigh.

Benjamin looked at the woman resting on his leg. He generally disliked women getting too close, but he felt no aversion towards the woman who was sleeping soundly on his lap. Instead, he reached out to adjust the thin blanket on her, making sure she was well-covered.

Catherine had been too tired recently, hardly getting any good sleep, and after tossing and turning last night, she slept especially deeply. When she woke up, she found that the sky had darkened. Confused, she sat up and realized that she had been resting on Benjamin’s leg. After a moment of panic and noticing that he had his eyes closed, she quietly placed her thin blanket on the man and then moved a bit to the side, as if nothing had happened.

However, after doing all this, Catherine failed to notice the amusement on the man’s face as he quirked his lips slightly due to her with a guilty conscience.

The fleeting streetscape outside was familiar to Catherine, and she felt both relaxed and a tad inexplicably lost at the same time.

In the future, it’s unlikely that she would ever be so intimately close to Benjamin again.

But, that’s probably for the best.

As soon as the car stopped outside the villa, Mrs. Jones came out with Alice. The little girl hadn’t seen her mother all day and happily dashed towards Catherine. Catherine hurriedly bent down to catch Alice, but slipped and fell toward the ground. Just as it seemed mother and daughter would both fall over, Benjamin suddenly reached out, pulling Catherine to him and lifting Alice into his arms.

Catherine slid around on the ground and bumped firmly against Benjamin’s chest. She looked up to meet his deep black eyes, with Alice blinking her big eyes on the side, "Mommy, are you okay?"

"I’m fine." Catherine shook her head, her nose tingling with emotion. She wondered if this man was made of concrete—he was so hard!

Then she recalled the night four years ago, how solid his body was then too. Her mind buzzed, cursing herself for her thoughts. Yet, as she tried to get up from Benjamin’s arms, she slipped several times without success, bumping her nose again and nearly bursting into tears.

Though Alice felt sorry for her mother, she couldn’t help but scoff, "Mommy is so silly." After saying this, she turned her head to look at Benjamin with admiration, "Uncle is the hero of Alice and Mommy."

Catherine, "..."

"It’s cold outside, come in quickly." Mrs. Jones, who had just enjoyed some melon and sneakily taken a photo, finally spoke up, her smile impossible to hide.

Benjamin looked up at his mother before asking Catherine, "Are you steady now?"

Catherine quickly nodded, stepping out of the man’s embrace and blushing as she moved to the side to take Alice. However, Alice clung to Benjamin’s neck and shook her head at Catherine, "I want Uncle to hold me."

Upon hearing this, Benjamin headed straight into the villa, with Catherine casting a reproachful glance at her daughter and following quickly behind.

Once inside the villa, Catherine gradually warmed up, while Mrs. Jones went into the kitchen to ask them to wash their hands for dinner.

It was already eight in the evening. They had been stuck on the highway for nearly six hours and walked for another four. Although they had eaten some instant noodles on the way, they were all very hungry, and even Reed sat down without holding back. Catherine didn’t dare to be polite either.

Mrs. Jones nodded in satisfaction and casually sent the photo she had just taken to her husband, "What do you think? Don’t they look like a family of three?" fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

Mr. Jones replied quickly, "Looking like one is no use, wait for the results tomorrow."

Mrs. Jones looked up at her son and Catherine with her daughter, taking a deep breath. The results of the paternity test would be out tomorrow.
