Reborn as a Rich Woman in the Eighties-Chapter 277 - 276 Why Looking for Trouble
Chapter 277: Chapter 276 Why Looking for Trouble
In the fabric store, Lin Qiu called Lin Dong to help her carry a bolt of cloth. Just as they placed it on the workbench, someone entered the store.
Because they were dealing with troublemakers, Lin Qiu was very nervous, and both of them were momentarily stunned with a sigh of relief when they saw it was Lin Aiguo who had come in.
He hadn’t shown up in days!
Lin Qiu remained silent, it was the first time he had visited since she opened the shop.
Wiping sweat from his brow, Lin Dong asked, "What brings you here?"
The last time, he had tampered with the Heixiazi Fruit at the greenhouse stall, and even after taking them, he had felt conflicted for a long time.
Lin Aiguo looked around, assessing the two rooms inside the store, before finally speaking, "Just came to check on you guys! These are freshly picked plums!"
Now that the boiler didn’t need to be fired up, his unit had him covering for the security guard, so it wasn’t as convenient for him to come to the city as it had been in the winter.
Lin Dong gave an "Oh!" and then thoughtfully took them and placed them to the side on the sewing machine.
His feelings towards the man in front of him, his father, were complicated.
More than a year ago around this time, they had hated each other so much they could barely stand to be in the same room without coming to blows.
Now, as the family’s circumstances had improved, he too had undergone an earth-shattering transformation.
But Lin Dong didn’t dare to easily trust that he had truly changed for the better.
Know that, whether it was him or his mother, they had endured years of being beaten and scolded by him, ever since he could remember.
Fortunately, he had spent so much time up in the mountains; if he had stayed at home all day, their lives would have been even more miserable.
Lin Dong had also considered whether his father, Lin Aiguo, had mellowed with age, and because his eldest sister could make money, he might be pretending to change just to take advantage.
Who knows when, at a moment when they, his siblings, let their guard down, he would turn on them again!
Lin Aiguo found himself a place to sit and looked at them, asking, "Lin Dong, school starts soon, right?"
"The day after tomorrow!"
For a moment, there was silence.
"Got any water?" Lin Aiguo asked.
Facing his two children, Lin Aiguo didn’t know what to say to them, or rather, he had never really had a proper conversation with them before.
All he ever did was curse and lash out with his fists. And after all the things that happened over the years, it was only natural that they hated him.
"Yes!" Lin Qiu found a glass and poured him some water.
Their relationship now was more relaxed than before, not as tense and confrontational. She wouldn’t withhold water from him if he asked for it.
Lin Aiguo had just taken a couple of sips from his cup when two uniformed men entered.
The portly man scoffed arrogantly, "How come you’ve opened for business? Got a building permit yet? You’ve got some nerve! Aren’t you afraid we’ll confiscate everything?"
The other, a tall and thin man, chimed in, "Exactly! Think our words don’t matter, eh? Today you’ll learn how serious we are!" He pointed at the pile of cloth on the side of the workbench, "We are confiscating all these fabrics and taking them away!"
Lin Aiguo was confused; since when did the Industrial and Commercial Bureau confiscate things?
Lin Qiu and Lin Dong had never seen these two men before, it was Lin Xia who had dealt with them that day.
But just by looking at their attire and listening to what they said, the siblings understood what was going on.
Lin Dong stepped in front of the tall and thin man, "Wait a minute! Who says we don’t have a building permit? We have one!"
He would never let someone just walk away with his belongings; what good could come from them ending up in these people’s hands?
The portly man paused, "You have a building permit? Let me see it!"
He exchanged a glance with the tall thin man; when they had come before, there had been no permit!
Lin Dong went to the box next to the workbench and took out the building permit his elder sister had arranged.
Once the plump man had carefully examined it, his expression changed.
His tall and thin companion also took a look, frowning deeply.
The plump man’s eyes immediately darted around as he grunted, "Even with a property deed, it won’t do! There’s something in your business that doesn’t comply! You still can’t open up! Close the door right now!"
The tall and thin one seemed to take his cue from the plump man, pointing at Lin Qiu and the others, "That’s right! Let me tell you, we’re not just talking for fun. If we come back later and see your place still open, we won’t waste words and will directly confiscate your goods!"
Lin Aiguo wanted to speak up several times but feared that it would cause trouble for Lin Qiu and the others, so he remained silent at the side.
The two men gesticulated a great deal and then swaggered off to the Sun Family’s small store across the street.
Lin Qiu and Lin Dong were so angry they were practically biting their teeth in frustration, wishing they could curse out loud.
Lin Aiguo hurriedly asked, "What’s with those two looking for trouble? Do they want some sort of bribe?"
Lin Dong pursed his lips, "Someone is sabotaging us behind our backs!" He looked at Lin Qiu, "Elder Sister, you should hurry and go talk to Big Sister about what just happened!"
He knew his second sister’s temperament—all jittery when facing Lin Aiguo. Better that he stay behind than her.
"Alright!" Lin Qiu pulled off the leather ruler from around her neck and headed straight out the door.
Lin Dong didn’t care whether the other party was just threatening or not, he had to close the door first.
Lin Aiguo also reached out to help, and they put up the wooden planks to close the door.
Lin Dong took Lin Aiguo back to the rear room.
Lin Aiguo couldn’t help but keep asking, "Who did you guys offend?"
He suspected that it might be Qian Chunli and her family, but then immediately dismissed the thought. He knew the weight of Qian Chunli’s family’s friends and relatives.
Lin Yu worked at the factory too—who would know someone from the Industrial and Commercial Bureau?
Lin Dong didn’t want to divulge too much to Lin Aiguo but since he had arrived just in time, it was impossible not to say a little.
But if he mentioned his second sister’s relationship, would Lin Aiguo have some objections?
After weighing his options, Lin Dong decided to use this opportunity to probe Lin Aiguo’s reaction.
"My second sister is seeing someone, and there’s a woman at his workplace who is also chasing him. That woman has relatives in the Industrial and Commercial Bureau, so they came here to cause trouble for my second sister..."
Lin Aiguo was stunned, "Lin Qiu is seeing someone? When did this happen?" He, as a father, was completely unaware.
Observing his reaction, Lin Dong said, "It hasn’t been long since they started seeing each other!"
Lin Aiguo pressed on, "What does her boyfriend do for work, what is his family like? What are his conditions?"
"His conditions are decent! He works at a machinery factory!"
Lin Aiguo suddenly stood up, his face darkening, "Machinery factory?"
"What’s wrong?" Lin Dong also stood up, sensing that something was off with Lin Aiguo’s reaction.
"Lin Yu, that rascal, works at the machinery factory!" Lin Aiguo had a premonition, "There may be something to do with Lin Yu in this..."
Lin Yu once specifically returned home to tell him about learning of Lin Xia’s family through colleagues.
Lin Yu always despised Lin Xia, so would he not seize the opportunity to strike and exact revenge?
Upon hearing this, Lin Dong’s eyes widened in astonishment. Who would have thought that Lin Yu and Wu Zhengyang worked at the same place...
When Lin Qiu arrived, Lin Xia was busy dispatching goods, Liu Caifeng was tallying, and Lu Zheng was minding the stall.
"What’s the matter, Xiaoqiu?" Lin Xia noticed something was off with Lin Qiu’s expression.
Lin Qiu glanced at Zheng Haiyun, who was all ears nearby, and the other stall owners. She realized this was not something she could announce loudly.
She entered the stall and whispered the incident into Lin Xia’s ear.
