Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time-Chapter 99 Resentment
Chapter 99: Chapter 99 Resentment
Jiang Kechu squinted his eyes, somewhat puzzled by Wan Chu’er’s deliberate aloofness.
Could it be merely due to his recent displeasure? No, Jiang Kechu quickly dismissed the thought.
Apart from their first encounter, during their subsequent meetings, Wan Chu’er always seemed cold and distant, deliberately so.
Is Wan Chu’er naturally averse to socializing? But someone who could crack such jokes to a bunch of hormone-overloaded soldiers during military training doesn’t seem like a person who dislikes social interactions.
Moreover, he remembered that over a month ago, when he knocked on the private room door, he clearly saw Wan Chu’er laughing and chatting with her classmates.
So, this distance was aimed at him, Jiang Kechu concluded, unable to find any other reason. He simply and crudely surmised that Wan Chu’er was a willful girl.
He glanced indifferently at Wan Chu’er, who was sporting a fake smile, finding it somewhat irksome. Although he had planned to go along with her wish and part ways there, thoughts of that top-secret file and the name Wan Shiguo flashed through his mind, and he suppressed what he was about to say.
"Let Xiao Shan take a look at the components you’ve chosen. If you don’t want to handle it yourself, he can assemble it for you," Jiang Kechu said lightly. Xiao Shan was the young man accompanying him.
It sounded like he was being considerate, but Wan Chu’er’s brow furrowed slightly at the suggestion. She wanted to refuse, but Jiang Xiaoxiao looked so sincere next to her that Wan Chu’er felt bad about refusing again. Rejecting once could be seen as not wanting to trouble others, but multiple rejections might appear intentional and ungracious.
That’s what Wan Chu’er thought, unaware that in Jiang Kechu’s eyes, she was already being overly deliberate.
"Then I’ll trouble you," Wan Chu’er said.
Jiang Xiaoxiao smiled first and said, "No trouble at all, no trouble at all."
Then she blinked and asked tentatively, "Brother, do you know Chuchu?" She noticed that the way her brother spoke to Wan Chu’er seemed like they were acquaintances.
Upon hearing Jiang Xiaoxiao’s question, Wan Chu’er’s first instinct was to deny it. She didn’t want others to think there was something more between her and Jiang Kechu and considering Jiang Kechu currently had a girlfriend, for the sake of propriety, she should deny knowing him.
"Of course, we know each other. Have you forgotten? We met the last time your brother came to pick you up in the private room," Wan Chu’er had a sudden inspiration.
Then she gave Jiang Kechu a look with a clear plea in her eyes.
Jiang Kechu’s eyes flickered and he hummed vaguely in acknowledgment.
The claim of having already made up her mind was just an excuse for Wan Chu’er; in fact, she had only roughly decided on which brand to buy. She still needed to consider the specific models and parameters.
Jiang Kechu and Xiao Shan watched as Wan Chu’er, head lowered, inquired in detail about the performance and parameters of various models, and they couldn’t help but feel a mix of amusement and exasperation at her unabashed assertiveness.
Yet, Jiang Xiaoxiao found Wan Chu’er awe-inspiring; she didn’t understand any of those complex parameters such as memory size, motherboard slots, cooling power, port types, and the like—all of it sounded like alien code to her.
But Wan Chu’er spoke with authority and understanding; she saw clearly how one of the merchants was sweating under Wan Chu’er’s questioning.
In no time, Wan Chu’er became a formidable expert in the eyes of Jiang Xiaoxiao.
Xiao Shan was a true expert in the field of computer technology, and from the questions Wan Chu’er asked, he got a rough idea of her level.
She had some theoretical knowledge but seemed to be lacking practical skills, likely a student who had just begun learning.
Seeing Jiang Kechu’s concern for Wan Chuchu, he whispered, "Captain Jiang, should I take this girl to check out other places?"
Xiao Shan worked at the electronic mall and naturally knew which store had the best stuff.
Jiang Kechu nodded, glanced at his sister who looked up to him with admiration, and shook his head, somewhat surprised by Wan Chuchu’s learning ability. If he remembered correctly, Wan Chuchu had never been in contact with computers back in Wutong County. It had only been a month since she arrived in Beijing, yet she was able to reach this level, which showed she must have put in a lot of effort.
Jiang Kechu walked over to Wan Chuchu and his sister and said in a low voice, "Let’s go look somewhere else." Then he directly grabbed both of their shoulders and pulled them out.
Jiang Xiaoxiao always listened to her brother. Whatever Jiang Kechu said, she complied with, especially with something like buying a computer which she didn’t understand.
Wan Chuchu subconsciously followed the pull from Jiang Kechu and took a few steps before she realized.
Why should she listen to Jiang Kechu? She and Jiang Kechu weren’t related now, so she tried to stand her ground.
Feeling Wan Chuchu’s resistance, Jiang Kechu raised an eyebrow, leaned close to her ear, and whispered, "If you want to buy a good computer, follow me."
His warm breath directly hit Wan Chuchu’s neck, and her body immediately stiffened up, as if her blood had stopped flowing.
In her previous life, she feared Jiang Kechu behaving this way the most.
Seeing that Wan Chuchu stopped resisting, Jiang Kechu didn’t notice her discomfort, thinking that his words had persuaded her, and after pulling the two out of the store, he let go and gestured for Xiao Shan to lead the way.
"Chuchu, you are really amazing. I completely didn’t understand what you were talking about just now. I think you almost made the owner cry, haha. Are all students in the computer science major this impressive?..."
Jiang Xiaoxiao wrapped an arm around Wan Chuchu’s and chattered non-stop, her admiration was obvious.
"Actually, those things are not that hard. Just read a few books and get some hands-on experience, that’s about it. I’m still not good enough," Wan Chuchu responded to Jiang Xiaoxiao’s stream of words, slowly calming her emotions and unease.
Looking up at Jiang Kechu’s straight back in front of her, Wan Chuchu bit her lip, filled with resentment in her heart, and in her mind, she pounded Jiang Kechu into pig head.
It was only after a computer with excellent performance was assembled that her resentment subsided significantly.
The computer in front of her was assembled with Xiao Shan’s guidance, and although it cost her six thousand yuan, she still gave Xiao Shan a big smile, "Thank you, Brother Xiao Shan!"
For the specs of the computer, six thousand yuan was a very reasonable price, and she was very satisfied.
That smile left Xiao Shan stunned, and Jiang Xiaoxiao’s eyes widened, thinking that when Wan Chuchu smiled, she was even prettier than Sister Wei Feng.
Jiang Kechu glanced at the dumbstruck Xiao Shan, discreetly moved a step forward to get between them, and asked Wan Chuchu, "How are you going back? Do Xiaoxiao and I need to give you a ride?"
The monitors of this era were those bulky old-style ones. Once packed into a box, they were huge and heavy, definitely not something she could carry by herself, not to mention the tower case, keyboard, and mouse, among other accessories.
Wan Chuchu hesitated for a moment, then took a step to the side, bypassing Jiang Kechu to speak to Xiao Shan, "Brother Xiao Shan, I see that your electronic mall seems to have a partnership with delivery tricycles, could you please help me contact one? I’ll cover the transport fee."
Xiao Shan immediately nodded and said no problem.
While Wan Chuchu and Jiang Xiaoxiao were looking at laptops nearby, Jiang Kechu said to Xiao Shan, "Wan Chuchu is the daughter of Commander Wan Shiguo."
Xiao Shan exclaimed in surprise, and after a few seconds of being stunned, he slapped his head, "Had I known, I would have charged her less just now, no, I mean I should have paid for her."
