Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time-Chapter 87: Yielding
Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Yielding
Wan Chu’er gave Ma Tianjiao a cold look, the chilliness in her eyes making Ma Tianjiao shrink back.
Ma Tianjiao bit her lips, then turned her head and enthusiastically started conversing with Jiang Xiaoxiao again. Lin Yufei would also occasionally interject, neither as fervent as Ma Tianjiao nor as aloof.
In fact, Jiang Xiaoxiao had already eaten before coming here. She mainly came to talk to Mai Qiqi, as it had been a long time since she last saw Mai Qiqi.
Wan Chu’er ate her meal methodically, her face adorned with a smile that was just right, occasionally responding to Mai Qiqi’s greetings.
Wan Chu’er happened to be sitting opposite Jiang Xiaoxiao, so Jiang Xiaoxiao’s peripheral vision occasionally swept over to Wan Chu’er. After watching Wan Chu’er for a while, she actually developed a favorable impression of her.
She felt that the girl who had passed her the water bottle had particularly good dining etiquette, always waiting to finish chewing and swallowing her food before speaking.
This habit, however, was developed in her previous life at the Jiang Family, after Mrs. Jiang patiently taught Wan Chu’er many times.
The dishes on the dining table were nearly finished, but Ma Tianjiao was still talking enthusiastically, showing no signs of wanting to stop.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the private room’s door from outside. Everyone looked over to see the door being pushed open, revealing a tall young man.
Upon seeing the young man’s cool and handsome face, Ma Tianjiao’s eyes lit up.
Mai Qiqi smiled and greeted, "Brother Jiang."
Wan Chu’er glanced up, then lowered her head again—it was Jiang Kechu.
Jiang Kechu nodded to Mai Qiqi and then said to his sister, "Xiaoxiao, we’re leaving now; I’ll take you and Sister Wei Feng back to the compound."
His gaze suddenly swept to Wan Chu’er, his eyes briefly hardened as he remembered that she was the science top-scorer from S province admitted to the first university, seemingly sharing a dormitory with Mai Qiqi.
Wan Chu’er’s indifferent expression clearly showed she had no interest in catching up with Jiang Kechu. Feeling a slight blockage in his heart, he said "Excuse me" and then left the private room, planning to wait for his sister outside.
Jiang Xiaoxiao stood up with a smile, "Then I’m leaving first." freewёbnoνel.com
Ma Tianjiao became anxious, and she said to Mai Qiqi, "Qiqi, we’re done eating, shall we go together?"
Jiang Kechu’s brief appearance had left a deep impression on her, and she thought it would be great if she could take the chance to get to know him.
But Lin Yufei was displeased, glancing at the remaining dishes on the table, she said, "I haven’t finished eating; if you want to leave, go by yourself." The tea here is quite good; she wanted to drink more of it.
As for Ma Tianjiao’s behavior, not everyone here was oblivious. Wan Chu’er could see it, and so could Mai Qiqi, naturally.
Mai Qiqi first smiled at Jiang Xiaoxiao and said, "Xiaoxiao, you and Brother Jiang go ahead, and give my regards to Sister Wei Feng, okay? We’ll sit for a while longer."
Ma Tianjiao wanted to say something else, but Mai Qiqi had already stood up to see off Jiang Xiaoxiao. Glancing at the unmoving Wan Chu’er and the leisurely tea-drinking Lin Yufei, Ma Tianjiao felt so frustrated that she almost couldn’t contain it, yet she couldn’t express her anger openly. After all, these two were just her roommates, and Lin Yufei was sharp-tongued. Suppressing the indignant feelings in her heart, she spoke with sarcasm:
"The food and tea here are actually quite good. If it weren’t for Qiqi, you two probably wouldn’t have had the chance to experience it in your lifetimes. You should savor it well."
Lin Yufei sniffed disdainfully, ignoring her. Wan Chu’er was even more indifferent, lost in her own thoughts.
Mai Qiqi quickly returned to her seat. She was somewhat annoyed by Ma Tianjiao’s attitude just now, so after taking a sip of water upon sitting down, she said:
"Do you guys know? Brother Jiang’s girlfriend is our school’s Sister Wei Feng, a top student in the senior Management Department, and also the previous president of the student council. Sister Wei Feng is not only beautiful and academically talented, but also comes from a good family background. Both her parents are diplomats. She and Brother Jiang are considered a match made in heaven."
Lin Yufei’s mouth fell open in surprise, "Wow! Then is the Jiang Family also very impressive?" After receiving an affirmative response from Mai Qiqi, she exclaimed:
"Having grown up in Beijing all my life, this is the first time I’ve had such close contact with these second-generation officials!"
"It’s said that these second-generation officials in Beijing mostly marry those of equal status; they’re out of reach for ordinary people like us."
Lin Yufei was no fool. She caught the implication in Mai Qiqi’s words and naturally echoed them, joining in to knock Ma Tianjiao down a peg. Bringing down Ma Tianjiao made her happy, as she had disliked her from their first meeting. She really thought of herself as a princess, acting dainty and bossy.
Ma Tianjiao bit her lip, and after a long pause, she snorted, "This is a new era, and we are about to enter the new century. What’s with this talk of arranged marriages and matching social status? It’s so feudal."
Mai Qiqi couldn’t be bothered with her and after waiting a while longer, she called the waiter to settle the bill, only to be told, "Mr. Jiang has already taken care of your bill."
The private room fell into a quiet stupor. Lin Yufei and Ma Tianjiao’s mouths gaped open in surprise, they looked at each other, then turned their heads away. They had roughly calculated the cost of their order; the prices here were not low. They were just hoping to get a discount courtesy of Mai Qiqi, but the bill was completely taken care of—such wealthy people!
Mai Qiqi assumed that Jiang Xiao had asked Brother Jiang to help them with the bill. A scornful smile appeared on the corner of Wan Chu’er’s mouth, but she said nothing.
The four girls returned to the university together.
As soon as they got back to the dormitory, their instructor came for a visit. After asking if they had any issues with their living conditions, the instructor announced some news: Tomorrow they would all go to the West Suburb Military Camp for a month of military training.
Hearing this, Wan Chu’er and Ma Tianjiao were dumbfounded, both unaware of such an arrangement.
Wan Chu’er then asked Mai Qiqi, "What do we need to prepare for the military training?" Apparently, Mai Qiqi and Lin Yufei knew about the military training.
Mai Qiqi was forthcoming and laughed, "The most important thing is to be prepared for sun protection. After a month of military training, if you don’t do a good job with sunscreen, you’ll definitely end up looking like an African refugee."
"Luckily, my mom already bought me sunscreen before coming here." Ma Tianjiao laughed and clapped her hands when she heard this.
Wan Chu’er silently took her wallet and went out. She remembered there were a few cosmetics stores on the street behind the university; she needed to go buy a couple of bottles of sunscreen.
The next day, several buses took the new students of this year to the West Suburb Military Camp.
From that day on, Wan Chu’er and the others began their month-long military training. The training officers were all soldiers from the camp, so naturally, they did not go easy on them, and Ma Tianjiao complained bitterly.
On the other hand, Wan Chu’er, who had been consistently running and practicing martial arts for the past two years, was in great physical condition. She saw the military training as a piece of cake.
