731: Operation Arid Soil : Part Forty-Two

Ir’Houwl looked over a table, it’s entirety had been covered by a newly crafted map, meant to represent, the cities, towns and camps with an appropriate scale of distance separating them, the map was covered in writings telling about the specificities of each of those places, the sort of people that lived here, the overall population, the state of the area and the creatures that wander around…

The problem with this realm was that towns were acting as satellites of the cities, the two were often checking on one another and the likes, meaning that to efficiently take over and prevent livings from possibly escaping and alerting another city, she would have to take down the towns and the city itself in one fell swoop, so at to stop the livings from learning what they were dealing with.

So far, they only knew that vegetation had appeared, not of any undead threat, and the plan was for them to assume that the three reviled faiths were back working together by having the butchers and tricksters attack and purposefully leave a few people alive to tell the tale.

That way, the livings would be preparing for a coalition of the three to strike them, without ever suspecting that another force was behind it all, and why would they?

The undeads had come from outside the realm, they could not reasonably assume that a new threat had popped out of nowhere, and even if they did believe so, justifying preparing against something unknown, that you had no proof existed and might actually not be a thing at all was simply ludicrous.

The few that might believe so would be crushed by the majority and by reason.

It was a simple strategy on Ir’Houwl’s part, but a rather hard one to put into motion correctly, once again, she had to swiftly deal and take over an entire city and its surrounding towns in one go without allowing anyone to run, and these cities wouldn’t be mostly empty like this one, the only reason it had been so easy was because the original inhabitants had left and a small group of Illusory Undeviginti’s worshippers settled in afterward.

The rest would certainly be filled to the brim with followers of Prime and Watchful Undeviginti, with more arm-bearers, probably multiple Ersta’las and perhaps even a Ersta’sol in some cases, Cheops and the arm-bearers here had been easily dealt with, but their specialties were tricks and illusions, with greater number, and more direct combat power, rapidly forcing the other cities into submission would be incredibly difficult.

And it was important to remember that the conquest of this realm wasn’t just that, but also a trial for Ir’Houwl picked by General Loimos, brute forcing her way through wasn’t the way to go about things, that would be the solution if her name was Herlbe.

‘It must be easy to be so straightforward in everything you do’

Unfortunately for Ir’Houwl, her way of doing things was not to just hit the problems until they were no longer problems, and her troops weren’t picked and trained for being brutal warriors with large body sizes and much physical strength available.

She was the desert warfare expert, or so she wished to become, her goal was to be the one that everybody thought should be here whenever there was lots of sand around, a specialist that could deal with this sort of region reliably. freewebnσvel.cøm

“Ersta’la!

Stop kissing your new girlfriend and come over here” she spoke, her voice echoing throughout the solar temple.

The man in question quickly arrived with a light jog, fixing his robes to appear presentable, his beard had been completely shaved, revealing a younger face than one might have expected, he raised up his collar, hiding a hickey and saluted.

“How may I help you, Lord Ir’Houwl” he had gotten a whole lot more enthusiastic since Ir’Houwl had forced him to socialise with the cleansing arm-bearer.

“The cycle of Undeviginti, can you know it?

Guess it?

If so, which one will come after that period, and when?” she asked, and the man closed his eyes to think deeply about it.

“Typically, after a period of sovereignty by Prime Undeviginti, Watchful Undeviginti is typically the one that takes the lead right after, but sometimes, Illusory Undeviginti will pretend to be the watchful one for a little while, I can tell you if that is the case however… As for the other two, it is possible for them to appear, but highly unlikely”

“Watchful Undeviginti is by far the most common one”

The living then scratched the back of his head.

“As for when… It is a bit hard to say, those who can wield vapour can generally tell if their patron Undeviginti is going to appear soon, but in the case of Illusory Undeviginti, it is highly unpredictable as it seems like our sun intentionally messes with us, but I suppose that we should be able to know if Cleansing Undeviginti is going to appear by asking Meri”

“I see, then it is as I suspected, Ersta’la, gather all of the livings, you’ll be standing out in the open whilst me and my troops do the actual work” she ordered, making the man blink multiple times in a row.

“My Lord, what is the mission today?”

“We will wait for the additional suns to go away, as there are currently thirteen whole decoys in the sky, and two moving suns on top of that, but once the way is cleared, there was a camp of followers of Sanguine Undeviginti spotted just recently, they are well-concealed, so they won’t expect a fight… With vapour wielders of the illusory, cleansing and sanguine one, we should be able to somewhat accurately predict which sun is most likely to show up after the current one” she stated, and the Ersta’la nodded, by now, he couldn’t say anything about the heretics being awful people or dangers when he shared a room with a butcher.

‘Thirteen?

The oasis they created truly is efficient, the air is still cool inside the city despite that…’ he was honestly more impressed by the revolutionary method employed by the undead to create a shaded and cool environment, the sollocks that were typically used looked like mere child’s play compared to this.

Even with plenty of them, the city would still be incredibly hot during such a time, but the undead had with remarkable ease and swiftness, brought forth a solution that worked much better and brought cool air during the sovereignty of Prime Undeviginti.

He performed a small bow and excused himself to go and gather all of the living troops, minus the orcs of course, who were also housed inside of the city, Ir’Houwl did not want the enemy to believe that the coalition also included the intelligent monster species, at least not for now.
