Path of Alchemy Mastery-Chapter 306 - 307: Opening the Coffin
Chapter 306: Chapter 307: Opening the Coffin
Mu Can and Wang Cai were chatting on one side, while Big Nose and a few others were being forced to enter the tomb chamber on the other side.
"Damn it, if we have to go in, then at least unbind me first." At this critical moment, Big Nose was defiant, ready to face risk regardless, thinking there might be a slim chance of survival inside the tomb chamber.
The drunkard released the bindings from Big Nose and the others and gestured with an outstretched hand for them to enter the tomb chamber.
Standing at the entrance, Big Nose took a deep breath. Just moments ago, this very chamber had been consumed by a blazing fire that claimed at least an Intermediate Martial Saint, and even though it was a dog, it was still a Martial Saint dog.
If there were any dangers left in the tomb chamber, he was doomed to not escape. However, if they attempted to flee, with a Basic Level Martial Saint guarding outside, they would stand no chance of escape. Thus, Big Nose was gambling — betting that the dangers within the chamber had subsided, that it was now a safe place, and hoping that it contained treasures that could free him from the clutches of the drunkard.
Big Nose led the way, going straight into the chamber.
"Is everything okay in there?" Zhang Long approached the drunkard, watching the people entering the chamber and asking.
"I don’t know if the danger is gone; it may have been cleared by Lord Wang Cai," the drunkard said indifferently, with mixed feelings in his heart as he recalled the scene.
Had it not been for Wang Cai’s intervention, he would have been the first to enter the chamber and would have undoubtedly met his end.
"Big brother, what exactly happened in here just now?" The few people behind Big Nose also appeared cautious. They had all witnessed the power of Wang Cai — judging by that Azure Dragon Summoning Technique, he was clearly no ordinary Martial Saint. Furthermore, with a powerful Martial Saint like the drunkard obediently at his beck and call, Wang Cai’s true strength was unfathomable.
Yet that very master of unfathomable depths had been reduced to ashes upon entering the chamber.
"I don’t know either, but if we don’t go in, those bastards outside will not let us be," Big Nose said darkly. He also harbored immense hatred for the drunkard outside.
That dog had already died, so why be so loyal? Is it really to be treated as a loyal lackey like that dog? Little did Big Nose know, the drunkard outside had been enlisted by Wang Cai because of a craving for dog meat. One could only imagine what he would think upon learning this. Perhaps he would turn around and curse out the drunkard on the spot.
"Be careful." Big Nose cautiously moved forward, not forgetting to remind those behind him.
While they could afford to make mistakes, under the current circumstances, they were all in this together, and if any tomb mechanisms were triggered, no one would get out alive. He couldn’t forget the scene of the flames running wild, and even from outside, one could feel the scorching heat wave.
"Right." They didn’t even need Big Nose to tell them. They were all too aware of the dangers inside and closely followed Big Nose toward the direction of the coffin.
"Big brother, look, the flames are going to extinguish!" Just as Big Nose nearly reached the coffin, a subordinate behind him suddenly spoke up, startling the intensely focused Big Nose.
"Dammit, what are you freaking out about? You scared the hell out of me," Big Nose scolded, and then followed his subordinate’s pointing finger to see the Divine Beast-shaped flames flickering in the four corners of the room as if they would extinguish at any second.
"Don’t move yet, let’s see what’s happening." Big Nose carefully observed the layout, ready to act at any sign of anomaly, as he had no desire to face that fierce flame again.
Dying outside, at least there’s a corpse left, but dying in here, not even ashes can be found.
The four big cauldrons in the four corners, which originally each had a flame burning on top, turned into the shapes of Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Xuanwu, lighting up the entire tomb chamber like daylight, but now, these four miniature Divine Beasts of flame seemed to flicker in and out of solidity, as if they would extinguish in the next second.
"Big Brother, is it possible that they’ve exhausted their energy after that earlier outburst and are really about to go out now?" A swift-thinking underling behind the big-nosed man immediately made the connection to the previous inferno.
"Very likely." The big-nosed man nodded, also observing the surroundings, largely agreeing with his underling’s opinion.
His heart ablaze with eagerness, if the danger within had indeed been broken through by that silly dog earlier, then the treasures hidden here might very well fall into his hands.
"It’s extinguished." Following the underling’s voice, the flames in the four corners went out simultaneously, and the entire tomb chamber plunged into darkness.
"Channel Spiritual Power for illumination." The big-nosed man wasn’t panicked at all at this time; he immediately spoke to stabilize everyone and gestured for all to channel their Spiritual Power.
With Spiritual Power channeled, each person produced a palm-sized Light Ball in their hand, with Spiritual Energy swirling inside.
This was also a nifty use of Spiritual Power, a small skill known by almost every Cultivator capable of externally manifesting Spiritual Energy.
However, what should have been Light Balls shining with pure white light were for some unknown reason emitting a faint green glow.
Casting their faces in a sickly, oily green, everyone looked eerily unsettling.
"Big Brother, something seems off." The underling behind the big-nosed man, looking at the Spiritual Power Ball in his hand emitting a faint green light, shakily inquired.
Don’t forget, this was within the tomb chamber of an enigmatic large grave, and although Wang Cai had explained to them that this was the Hidden Gold Tomb, which didn’t contain any buried bodies but simply treasures, nobody could remain calm in such a situation.
"Shut up." The big-nosed man harshly scolded; his heart, like everyone else’s, was filled with fear, but at this moment, he knew he had to appear calm because if he panicked, then everyone would surely follow suit.
"What’s there to panic about, everyone shut up, or I’ll be the first to kill you."
The big-nosed man and his people were mountain bandits who had occupied an energy-rich mountaintop outside, and now their banditry fully erupted.
Seeing the boss lose his temper, several people sensibly remained silent, not speaking further.
They were aware of the big-nosed man’s methods. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
"Damn it, I want to see what’s actually hidden inside." As if his ferocity had been ignited, the big-nosed man refused to hesitate any longer; he strode over to the side of the coffin and reached out, intending to open it.
"Open for me." The coffin lid, contrary to the expected heavy weight, was surprisingly easy for the big-nosed man to open.
