In the southern district of the Imperial Capital, Fuzzsir crouched behind a thick wall, nervously observing a massive monster not far from him.

At that moment, his condition was dire. His left hand had been broken during a previous battle, and his overall strength had plummeted to less than half of its normal capacity.

"When will the reinforcements arrive?!" Fuzzsir thought anxiously. "If the reinforcements don't get here soon, everyone in the Imperial Capital will die!"

Fuzzsir was in a state of desperation. It had already been a full day since Drumph had left the Imperial Capital. Still, there had been no word of reinforcements.

This lack of news weighed heavily on him, sinking him further into despair.

At that very moment, the massive monster slowly turned its head. Its six eyes fixed directly on Fuzzsir's position.

Without warning, the monster charged toward him at lightning speed.

"Damn it! It found me!" Fuzzsir cursed.

He quickly raised his skeleton staff, and a swarm of restless souls burst forth from it. The spirits managed to slow the monster's approach, buying Fuzzsir a moment.

Seizing the opportunity, he transformed into a shadow and sprinted away, retreating quickly.

Though his condition was poor, his speed remained formidable. Within minutes, Fuzzsir had reached another district.

"This should be safer, right?" he muttered to himself, scanning his surroundings with slight unease.

After confirming there were no monsters in sight, he allowed himself to relax, just a little.

He found a quiet, clean spot and sat down. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a healing potion and drank it in one swift gulp.

The potion's effects were immediate, and his condition improved slightly. His wounds began to heal, albeit slowly.

However, the healing was only for minor cuts. His broken left hand and the large wound on his abdomen couldn't be mended by just one bottle of potion.

Fuzzsir closed his eyes, taking deep breaths to calm himself.

He needed to recover as quickly as possible. Only by regaining his composure could he continue to fight.

As the strongest member of the Northern Territory Morning Star remaining in the Imperial Capital, it was his duty to protect it.

Just then, a clawed limb pierced through the wall he had been leaning against.

In the blink of an eye, Fuzzsir pushed his body to its absolute limit, narrowly avoiding the claw strike aimed at him.

The massive monster charged again.

It seemed that the monster had grown much stronger, its power far greater than before.

"What's happening?! How could the monster catch up to me so quickly?!" Fuzzsir thought in shock.

He couldn't fathom how the monster had managed to close the distance so fast.

Amidst his shock, he felt an overwhelming fear.

This was the first time he truly felt that his life was about to end.

The monster didn't give him any time to prepare. The moment Fuzzsir had barely evaded its attack, it launched another.

With each of the monster's relentless strikes, Fuzzsir found himself struggling more and more to defend himself.

The skeleton staff he had been holding was shattered by one of the monster's claws, and nearly all of his spells were now useless.

Fuzzsir had fallen into total despair.

He could only watch helplessly as the monster's claw inched toward his throat.

Just as he thought his end had come, a whistling sound suddenly filled the air.

A black throwing dart pierced the monster's head.

The monster let out a painful howl and, in an instant, shifted its focus toward the direction from which the dart had come.

Fuzzsir's face broke into a relieved smile.

"So in the end, it's you who came to save me! Melania!"

"This is no time for small talk! Hurry up and follow me; it's too dangerous here!" Melania, dressed in black, coldly ordered.

Fuzzsir struggled to his feet.

"Where can we go? Other than the core district, there's no safe zone left in the Imperial Capital. As members of Morning Star, we have to fight. We don't have the luxury of hiding in the secure zone's fortifications."

Fuzzsir wasn't someone rigid in his thinking.

The only reason he hadn't followed Melania immediately was because he wanted to fulfill the mission that Drumph had entrusted him with.

Before leaving, Drumph had appointed Fuzzsir to temporarily command all of the Northern Territory Morning Star members in the Imperial Capital.

This meant that Fuzzsir had to take responsibility for the safety of the Imperial Capital.

Melania turned her head to look at him coldly, her gaze cutting.

"I never thought you would be such a serious and responsible person."

Her tone held a mix of sarcasm and mockery.

Yet, Fuzzsir could tell that there was a hint of admiration beneath the sarcasm in her voice.

"We certainly won't be hiding in the secure zone. For now, let's retreat to Fortress 12. It's temporarily safe there, and there's plenty of supplies. You need to heal your injuries before you can continue fighting."

Melania's words convinced Fuzzsir.

The two of them quickly made their way to Fortress 12.

Inside the fortress, the place was filled with injured people. Every person seemed to have sustained severe wounds, which meant that only those with minor injuries were still out fighting.

"The situation is already dire. We need to urge Drumph to return as soon as possible," Melania said, her usual reserved nature giving way to a hint of urgency.

Fuzzsir nodded.

He endured the sharp pain as he opened his communicator.

"When exactly are you planning on coming back? The situation in the Imperial Capital is getting worse by the minute. If you don't return soon, the monsters will completely destroy the city."

As soon as the connection was made, Fuzzsir launched into a long string of complaints.

On the other end, Drumph responded coldly, "I've already found reinforcements. You just need to hold out for a few more days."

"A few more days?! We can't last another day! Does the reinforcements you found include Luca? Can't you send him here on his own? If Luca comes to the Imperial Capital, the pressure on us would ease significantly!"

Fuzzsir was furious with Drumph's response. In his view, the situation had become too dire to allow for any more delays.

"Luca can come on his own, but I won't allow him to do that. He has a more important task here," Drumph replied, not easily swayed.

As the leader of the Northern Territory Morning Star, Drumph knew Fuzzsir well. Despite Fuzzsir's complaints, as soon as clear orders were given, Fuzzsir would do whatever it took to fulfill them, no matter how difficult.

"What task could possibly be more important than this?" Fuzzsir was too agitated to speak clearly, so Melania coldly interjected.

"This is not something you should be asking. You're not qualified to know! But I can tell you that his task is related to the reinforcements," Drumph responded, before abruptly ending the communication.

"See? He wants us to die here!" Fuzzsir shouted angrily.

Melania didn't respond.

She was frowning, deep in thought.

Around them, the anguished cries of the wounded echoed through the air.

At the same time, the sounds of explosions from bombs could be heard from outside the fortress.

In this tense atmosphere, Fuzzsir managed to suppress the anger boiling within him.

"Regardless, we have to hold the Imperial Capital! Since those bastards can't send reinforcements right away, we'll have to rely on our own strength. I think we should abandon the outer defenses of the Imperial Capital," Fuzzsir voiced his judgment.

Melania nodded in agreement.

"We should quickly inform the others about this decision. After all, we aren't the only ones defending the Imperial Capital," she said.

After making their decision, the two immediately took action.

Soon, others who were still engaged in battle with the monsters learned of the Northern Territory Morning Star's decision.

The Imperial Capital's guard made no objections. They quickly withdrew from the outer districts of the Imperial Capital.

Zovland, the leader of the Eastern Territory Morning Star, couldn't help but complain, "The people from the Northern Territory are a bunch of cowards! They're giving up the outer districts of the Imperial Capital!"

Even though they were fighting side by side, Zovland still didn't miss the chance to mock the Northern Territory Morning Star.

However, despite his jabs, Zovland did acknowledge Fuzzsir's decision.

Zovland and his subordinates had also suffered tremendous losses in the earlier battles, and in the end, he too led his forces to abandon the outer districts of the Imperial Capital.

With the defensive forces retreating, the outer districts of the Imperial Capital were quickly overrun by the monsters.

But instead of immediately pressing forward toward the core of the Imperial Capital, the monsters seemed to be searching for something.

Every corner of the outer districts was thoroughly scoured by the creatures.

The monsters' strange behavior didn't go unnoticed by the defenders.

However, at the moment, no one had any answers or ideas about what was happening, nor could they afford to focus on that. All the defenders of the Imperial Capital could do was hope to perform better in the upcoming battles.

While their approach made sense, they had overlooked one crucial piece of information.

Fifteen kilometers outside the Imperial Capital, in the dense jungle, Zenobia lay upon an ancient tree.

Her condition was critical.

Although she had regained some strength by devouring monsters, the destruction of her Sinful Divine Rank and the consumption of dark power had left Zenobia's abilities unable to improve significantly.

Her purpose for returning to the Imperial Capital was to find a legendary artifact that could greatly restore her strength.

"As long as I find the legendary artifact, I'll be able to recover most of my strength. At that point, not only will I be able to restore my divine rank, but I will also make all of my enemies pay the price!" Zenobia said viciously, glaring in the direction of the Imperial Capital.
