Chapter 56 - Precipice Blade

BANG!!!

The massive pillar of magma shooting into the sky exploded in the middle.

From within the shattering eruption, Whitebeard's figure emerged, suspended in midair. Tossing his naginata upward, he spread both hands wide, his fingers curling into claws. Devil Fruit power gathered at his fingertips as he grabbed downward with force.

Ten curved marks tore through the atmosphere. The ascending magma froze, twisted violently, and then cascaded back down to the earth.

The lava-covered half of the island heaved and churned, as if the land itself were flipping over. Enormous slabs of earth on either side slammed inward, squeezing the erupting magma pillar from both directions.

Rumble!

A wave of shockwaves tore through the ground, collapsing the eruption's mouth and temporarily sealing the roaring lava beneath.

In the distance, Sengoku, in his golden Buddha form, stood midair. Shockwaves rippled from beneath his feet, keeping him suspended in the sky.

In his left palm, he carried the unconscious Quell. His right hand raised high as a shockwave formed. He continuously fired blasts toward the center where the magma had just erupted.

Whitebeard crashed heavily onto the ground and raised his gaze to meet the incoming shockwaves. Clenching his left fist, he threw a punch forward.

Crack!

The atmosphere splintered like glass, spiderwebs of cracks forming before exploding outward.

An immense surge of shockpower roared to life, slamming head-on into Sengoku's attack. The collision detonated in a violent explosion.

Boom!

Scorching air currents rippled outward like rolling waves, sweeping away the dust that filled the sky. Just then, the ground began to quake violently. Both Sengoku and Whitebeard felt a jolt of danger pierce their instincts.

The admiral flashed through the air, carrying Quell away from the island at full speed.

Whitebeard stomped hard and launched himself several hundred meters into the sky, looking down at the battlefield.

Rumble!!!

A deafening roar shook the heavens. Half of the island crumbled and collapsed into the sea, swallowed like a stone into a bottomless pit.

In a flash, the ocean surged inward, rushing to fill the hollowed earth. Yet deep beneath the surface, a blinding red light flared, growing rapidly. A torrent of magma erupted from the abyss, filling the void left by the collapse.

Hovering in the air, Whitebeard's eyes sharpened.

Endless streams of molten rock burst upward, forming a sharp divide: one half of the island drowning in seawater, the other ignited into a hellscape of fire and magma.

From within the inferno, a colossal pillar of magma shot toward the sky. Several massive magma dragons, each hundreds of meters thick, coiled upward, their molten bodies twisting through the smoke-choked air.

Atop one dragon's head stood Sakazuki. His blade, cloaked in the black lightning of Conqueror's Haki, gleamed menacingly. More magma dragons coiled protectively around him, surging behind as he rode the currents of flame.

Drawing a wide arc through the sky, they dove downward.

Standing atop the dragon's head, Sakazuki twisted both hands around his sword's hilt. Raising it high, he slashed down toward Whitebeard.

The pirate, gripping his naginata in both hands, gathered Conqueror's Haki around the blade. With a mighty roar, he swung forward to meet the attack.

Clang!

The instant their blades collided, black and red lightning burst out, triggered by the clash of Haki. But with nowhere to brace himself midair, Whitebeard was soon overwhelmed by Sakazuki, who carried the force of several magma dragons behind him.

Both of them plummeted toward the half of

the island still covered in water, the side that had not yet collapsed.

Boom!

Their impact smashed into the ground, magma dragons cascading around them like a living tide. The seething magma, billowing thick black smoke, expanded without end and spread out in all directions.

In an instant, it swallowed up the remaining seawater on the island. Now, the last half of the island was completely submerged under molten rock.

Bang!

A tremendous blast of air erupted from the center of the molten sea. Within a kilometer radius, magma was hurled into the sky, scattering like fiery rain. At the heart of the explosion, the two titans remained locked in brutal combat.

They exchanged devastating bursts of Devil Fruit power, trying to overpower each other. Their muscles strained, veins bulging like coiled pythons under their skin, neither willing to yield an inch.

Red and white shockwaves divided the battlefield. Conqueror's Haki clashed in violent arcs, shattering the earth and blasting clouds of dust hundreds of meters high.

As the two pushed their powers even further, the shockwaves seemed to reach a critical point. They merged and crossed, erupting into a massive, spiraling vortex of force.

The twister broke apart at the center, splitting into countless red and white streams of dissipating energy. Both warriors, still gripping their weapons, were forced apart by the explosion. Without hesitation, they adjusted their stances and charged at each other once again.

Sakazuki, while funneling magma into his right hand, gripped his sword with his left, and unleashed a slash aimed at his opponent's side.

Whitebeard, holding his naginata with his right hand, formed a half-transparent ring of energy with his free left hand and swung his weapon to meet the attack.

Clang!

Their blades collided with a sharp crash, locking against each other. In the same instant, Sakazuki threw a heavy punch toward the pirate's abdomen.

Whitebeard responded by swinging his left fist at the vice admiral's head.

Boom!

Sakazuki's magma-coated fist slammed into the pirate's torso, unleashing a powerful shockwave. The force lifted him slightly off the ground, pushing him back. The fist tore through the surface of the skin and kept driving deeper with brutal force.

Yet, Whitebeard remained expressionless. His left fist, without the slightest pause, continued to slam down toward the vice admiral's head.

An unstoppable force pressed down. Sakazuki felt the upper half of his body twisting and compressing under the weight.

It wasn't an illusion. Whitebeard's Devil Fruit power was crushing down on him, pressing him ruthlessly toward the ground. Sakazuki's upper body began to warp and distort under the pressure.

The sense of danger grew stronger in his heart. His eyes flashed with cold determination. The vice admiral poured even more power into his right arm, pushing his Devil Fruit ability to its limit.

Simultaneously, the vibrating ring in Whitebeard's hand that was twisting Sakazuki's body also seemed to reach its limit.

Crack!

The air and the vice admiral's upper body shattered together.

Sakazuki felt a searing pain tearing through him, as if his whole body was being pulled apart. Enduring the agony, he detonated the magma inside his abdomen.

Before the surrounding air and his body could fully collapse and explode, a blinding red light burst from around him.

Boom!

Sakazuki's body exploded, colliding with the erupting vibration force. An endless surge of magma burst out, completely engulfing Whitebeard's figure and spreading across the island.

Far away, Sakazuki's form reappeared. His body was battered, his chest slightly sunken, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth and down his forehead. Expressionless, he stared at the heart of the magma field.

Bang!

A violent eruption tore open the magma field. Centered on Whitebeard, a vacuum zone several hundred meters wide appeared.

The pirate held his left hand over a giant, bleeding wound on his abdomen. Blood dripped from the corner of his mouth. His eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at Sakazuki.

"Gurararara. Little magma brat, take this one."

As he spoke, he drove his naginata into the ground, clenched both fists, and pulled them toward his abdomen. Then, with a powerful swing outward, the air around him shattered.

The seawater surrounding the island surged wildly. An irregular wall of water rose, climbing nearly a thousand meters into the sky, before crashing inward with earth-shaking force.

The tidal wave roared toward the molten ruins from all directions, threatening to engulf everything.

At the same time, Whitebeard launched himself skyward, soaring above the great wave. Then, gripping his naginata wrapped in Conqueror's Haki, he followed the falling water, slashing downward with full force. freewebnσvel.cѳm

On the ruined island below, Sakazuki looked up calmly at the incoming destruction.

With a snort of disdain, he pressed his hands together and clapped.

The earth beneath him twisted and cracked. A gigantic molten sword tip erupted upward, wide enough to span half the island, and shot toward the sky at incredible speed.

"Precipice Blade!"

Sakazuki's figure on the ground vanished. The massive molten sword kept rising, its towering blade piercing straight into the heavens.

In a flash, it grew even higher than the incoming tidal wave. Its sword tip aimed directly at Whitebeard.

The pirate swung his naginata down, and the enormous molten sword cracked open down the middle. But the endless magma continued to surge upward, lifting the fractured blade higher and higher.

Whitebeard, caught in the unstoppable rise, was forced skyward alongside the sword.

The tidal wave crashed down moments later, slamming into the molten blade. Steam and hissing vapor erupted as the magma rapidly cooled and hardened.

The island below was completely gone.

In its place stood a colossal black molten sword, over two thousand meters tall and half an island wide, firmly planted in the ocean.

At the peak of the Precipice Blade, the sword tip—split into two halves by Whitebeard's slash—now had two figures standing atop it.

Sakazuki on one side, Whitebeard on the other.

Their eyes locked, each brimming with killing intent as they glared at one another.
