Chapter 449: Chapter 203: Really Good at Judging People_2
Magic: "On the contrary, we will provide you with some conveniences to ensure you can achieve greater success..."
Magic mentioned the Lucerne City business tenders. As the heir of the Lando Family, Wayne’s personal interests were highly tied to the Lando Family’s interests. The intelligence agency was eager to see Wayne stabilize his current social status and was willing to divulge some information to help the Lando Family’s business grow stronger.
In turn, Wayne would continue his old trade, transmitting information about the Tulip Family and the Royal Family to Frank.
If everything went as expected, Wayne would live a life of glory and wealth as the head of the Lando Family, never crossing paths with Frank again in death.
If things went awry, Magic didn’t say, but he trusted that Wayne knew how to assess the situation.
Cooperation would benefit both parties, communication would mean a win-win; there can be no mistake.
"Does the Intelligence Agency really trust me so much? After all, I’ve been out of contact for a year, and it’s very possible I’ve completely turned to Windsor," Wayne asked.
"It’s possible, but it’s been dismissed by the superiors."
"What do you mean?"
Wayne asked eagerly, curious to see just how foolish Frank’s intelligence organization could be.
"The one who knows Windsor best is undoubtedly us from Frank. They won’t let someone with a murky background into the Tulip Family. You haven’t been exposed, and it’s even less likely that you’ve turned to Windsor." Magic was logical and firmly believed in Windsor’s integrity.
Wayne blinked, finding himself unable to refute this reason. All in all, Frank’s intelligence organization could not be called stupid; they had simply been marking time, not putting their hearts into development for many years.
They were gravely weakened, preoccupied with their own decline.
Understandable, really; with wolves before and tigers behind, victory and defeat looked much the same. He too would have let things slide.
"What do you think, Wayne? What is your take on this?"
"What can I think? The organization trusts me so much. After breaking up for a year, they still can’t stop thinking about me, can’t stand to see me well off, I’m truly grateful to the leaders," Wayne said sarcastically.
The more he mocked, the more resistant he appeared, the more Magic believed him. From a psychological standpoint, all of these were normal reactions.
"Rest assured, the Intelligence Agency has no intention of forcing you. Today’s meeting was just to convey goodwill." Magic pushed the briefcase towards Wayne, blinking, and said meaningfully, "You’ll like it."
"Magic?"
"Capital!"
"..."
He really knew his man!
Wayne took the briefcase, frowning, "If I agree, who do I contact in the future? I can’t possibly carry a radio around with me, there must be a contact person. Will it still be... Lily?"
"Lily won’t be returning to Windsor. She’s now a big star and will be responsible for publicity work in the future,"
Magic said, "If you want to see her, you can go to Paris."
No way, too risky. I cuckolded a Skeleton there, and he has a lot of clout locally.
After Magic left, Wayne put on white gloves and took the briefcase to his office to browse through its contents.
As he entered the door, he caught a glimpse of his coat having been tampered with and shrugged it off, pretending not to notice.
Might as well take it as a reward.
He looked through the documents in the case, taking the tea Mona handed him, shaking his head as he read, and occasionally smiling.
Mona peered over, her face close as her chest rested on Wayne’s shoulder, and after reviewing the documents she expressed surprise, "Boss, where did you get such prime information? It’s all business partnership details. This must have cost a pretty penny, right?"
"Free."
Wayne patted his chest, instructing Mona to copy down a few important documents, then he took the briefcase and returned to Wayne Manor.
Once home, he immediately went to the basement, accessed the complex sewer system, and made his way to the private villa of the Lando Manor’s young master.
Austin wasn’t home, nor was Megan, but Wayne made contact with him and waited over afternoon tea.
Austin looked gloomy. The King Kong movie wasn’t completely out yet, and that gloom was likely to stay for a while.
"Frank’s intelligence organization got in touch with me. This is their welcome gift." Wayne summarized briefly and pushed the briefcase in front of Austin.
Austin took a good half hour to inspect it, his gloomy expression somewhat eased, "I like the romance of Frank’s folks, as well as their ignorance and generosity."
"I get it, even the people of Frank have their good points, right?" Wayne commented mockingly.
He thought as a big capitalist, Austin wouldn’t hold stereotypes against Frank, but it seemed he had underestimated the hundred-year friendship between the two countries.
"Exactly," Austin said.
Austin closed the briefcase and sized up Wayne, satisfied, "It wasn’t in vain that I invested and placed my bets on you. I’m finally seeing the returns."
"Indeed, you even gave me your daughter."
"..."
Austin’s relaxing face darkened again, changing the subject, "Since you’ve come to me today, I also have an important piece of news for you."
"Is the Magic Department causing trouble again?"
Wayne was alarmed; things had just started to settle down, it had not been that long, couldn’t they just research magic quietly like him?
"The Naturalism Church’s Holy Maiden selection, held every twenty years, is about to begin, and your teacher Hefei is the Regional High Priest, with two nomination spots," Austin revealed slowly.
Great, the Holy Maiden!
Wayne’s eyes lit up, having longed for this moment, and asked, "Who will the teacher nominate? Veronica, perhaps? Would that be inappropriate, she might become a mother by the end of the year."
"..."
"Alright, I’ll stop talking, go on."
"With Veronica’s Dragon Bloodline and her magical talent, she’s qualified to compete for Holy Maiden. Had you not come along, Hefei might have actually considered it," Austin said with a grim face.
Wayne nodded in understanding. After all, the Holy Maiden was expected to remain pure for the sake of faith, and with Veronica in love with him, the teacher wouldn’t act like an old witch to tear them apart.
