My Supernatural Girlfriends Spoils Me Rotten-Chapter 367: Journey to the Center 7
Shery tensed when she recognized the voice. It took her a long time to turn around, almost like she didn't want to.
So, Asher took the lead.
A group of four walked toward them, their presence turning heads even in a crowd full of strong individuals. It was obvious they weren't just a group of nobodies.
The more he looked at them, the more he understood why. The weakest among them was C+ Rank, while the strongest was B+ Rank.
These people could hold their own even against demon kings at Zagan's level.
It was high praise, considering that the dragon could destroy a small city on his own if left unchecked.
But here, they were just ordinary Starfront members. They weren't even high rank, considering none of them were A-rankers.
They continued walking closer, their combat gear matching most others in the lobby.
It seemed they were using standardized equipment or buying from the same brand. Only a few differences showed here and there, small touches of individuality among them.
The symbol of Starfront burned proudly on their shoulders—real members, active ones.
Two of them stood out instantly.
A short girl with shoulder-length green hair walked in front, closely followed by a boy of similar height with dark green hair.
Their eyes were the same—black sclera with burning red irises, just like Shery's.
The girl gave off the strongest aura among the group, like someone from the B+ rank Next was the boy, close to her strength .
Behind them, two alien creatures followed. One resembled a humanoid cockroach, its chitinous limbs twitching. Its eyes were sharp, intelligent—calculating. It was probably a C+ Rank.
The other was a bit stronger.
A towering man with a scaled, lizard-like head, dressed in a reinforced harness, walked with heavy steps. This one had to be B- Rank at least.
"Aren't you being too cold with us, Shery? We're from the same planet, and even childhood friends who promised to explore the universe together," the girl shook her head, acting hurt, but it was obvious she was being sarcastic.
Shery finally turned around. "Long time... no see, Seli, Sven," she stuttered.
Seli grinned, her tone overly sweet. "Oh, I'm glad you still remember us. We were starting to think you'd forgotten about us."
Sven smirked, crossing his arms. "Yeah, it's been what? Years? Glad to see you're still around...Shery."
They shared the same race, but the warmth of kinship was missing.
Not wanting to escalate things, Shery bowed her head and grabbed Asher's hand.
But Seli spoke first. "Why are you leaving so soon? Don't tell me you're afraid we'll spill your dark secrets."
Shery quickly stepped back and moved behind Asher, like she couldn't bear to be seen. She wasn't just shaken. She was scared.
Asher couldn't understand how someone so outgoing could change so quickly. It had to be a serious trauma—and the people in front of him were the cause.
Still, he stayed silent. It wasn't his place to pry into her personal matters, nor did he care about her past.
Their relationship was strictly professional, and as long as she could meet his demands, that was all that mattered.
He would only step in if their actions became a detrimental to his own objective—or if Shery asked for his help directly.
Seli stepped closer, glancing at him with interest from head to toe, finding him pleasing to the eye.
Asher simply ignored her. He was tired of being treated like a piece of art by the opposite sex. Sure, he was ridiculously handsome, but there was no need to be too obvious about.
The way she batted her eyelashes and smiled—it was all too much.
She should just focus on Shery and leave him out of it.
And that's exactly what she did after getting enough "fan service." from him.
"You still have that habit, don't you, Shery? Hiding behind someone else whenever things get hard."
She didn't answer. Her head lowered, hiding her face beneath her bangs. Both hands clutched the back of Asher's clothing—she needed support, and he was the only one she had right now.
Sven laughed. "That hasn't changed. She's always the type to talk too much, but when things get tough, she'd be the first to run away and save her life."
People in the area slowed down. Even in a place this busy, scenes like this didn't happen often.
The lizard-headed man folded his arms, his cold, yellow slit eyes narrowing as he observed Shery.
His voice rumbled. "So you're that girl,"
"The one who betrayed her own team and left them for death, I've heard the stories, but I never thought I'd meet you in person." He shook his head, almost like he was disgusted by the mere sight of her. "And for what? Money? Greed? You really are scum."
The cockroach-like creature beside him hissed in agreement.
Shery's hands trembled at her sides, and she instinctively took a step back, her eyes darting to the ground.
She had wanted to forget the past—wanted to leave behind the shame and guilt that had followed her ever since that fateful day.
But hearing those words, the accusation... made her remember.
"It's not what you think... I—"
"Stop with your excuses," Seli cut her off, "We've got evidence that you took that money and told the enemy about our plan. That's why we failed the mission and almost died!"
Tears began to flow from Shery's eyes. There was a deeper story behind why she did it—why she made the choice to betray her team, her childhood friends.
But deep down, she knew it didn't matter now. No one would believe her, not after everything that happened.
Seli turned her gaze to Asher, her smile growing sweeter, as if her earlier outburst never happened. It was frightening how women could be angry one moment and act friendly the next.
"My name is Seli, and I'm a Starfront member. May I ask what your relationship is with our..." She paused. "Ex-team member?"
"She's my assistant, helping me around the city,"
Seli forced a smile. "If I were you, I'd be careful dealing with her. That woman is a snake. The further you stay from her, the safer you'll be."
Shery's shoulders sagged at the words, but she didn't look up to defend herself.
However, she worried that Asher would discard her after learning about her past. And she wouldn't blame him. There was no reason to keep someone as untrustworthy as her around.
"Why would I need to worry about her?" He raised an eyebrow. "Even if I get betrayed, it wouldn't matter."
There was no doubt in his voice, no hesitation. It was like he had already dismissed the threat without even considering it.
Seli's smile faded, and her fists clenched at her sides, but she didn't say anything rude to him.
There was something about Asher's presence—unintentionally commanding and deep—that made it hard for her to speak. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Frustration twisted her features as she turned her focus back to someone she could bully.
"So, you got yourself a man?" she sneered. "I bet you work real hard in bed just to keep him around, making sure he doesn't leave a snake like you. What do you do for him? Use that mouth of yours to send him to heaven?"
"I..." Shery managed to get a word out, but she could not commit to it.
Before the situation could spiral any further, Asher stepped in, his hand firm on her shoulder, a silent gesture for them to move on.
Without saying a word, they turned and walked away. No point wasting time on people whose only goal was to cause trouble.
Sven sneered at their retreat. "You! We're still talking, how dare you disrespect us?"
Asher stayed quiet and let them be.
When they were far enough, Shery finally spoke, her voice shaky.
"I'm sorry..." Tears kept falling, so he gently covered her face with his hand and led her to a nearby bench.
"Go on, I give you the right to cry on my shoulder. You should be grateful; a lot of women would kill for this opportunity," he joked, trying to lighten up the mood.
Though, in his case, there was a lot of truth to it.
Shery sniffled, managing a weak smile despite the tears. She didn't say anything at first, just leaned her head onto his shoulder, allowing herself a moment of relief.
Asher chuckled lightly, though his eyes remained serious. "Just don't get any ideas. This is purely a one-time offer. Make sure to take full advantage of it."
Shery's sobs grew louder.
"I... I didn't mean to betray them," she gasped between shaky breaths. "I was manipulated... into that situation. If I knew it would put their lives in danger, I... I never would've said anything."
Her tears soaked through his newly bought clothes. Each sob felt like it was ripping her apart from the inside.
Asher remained silent, letting her cry, his hand gently resting on her back. In moments like this, it was better to just shut up and listen, rather than push for answers or ask more questions.
She continued to speak, more like ranting now, her words tumbling out in a stream of frustration and guilt.
Asher listened carefully, piecing together the details.
Slowly, the full picture started to take shape in his mind. She wasn't the villain here, as everyone had painted her.
She had been a pawn in someone else's game, a victim of a political move of a very powerful family that owns
twelve galaxies.
