Chapter 80 - 80: If We're Going to Marry, Let's Marry

"How much do you know about Gu Daxiong?"

Because of her brother, when Lemon first mentioned this person, her expression would change.

But now, she was actually going to marry him?

"He was married once, but got divorced, and has no children," Yao Lemon replied calmly.

"Married before? Lemon, shouldn't you reconsider?"

With Lemon's qualifications, she could easily find someone better.

"There's nothing to reconsider." She shook her head.

"When he's on a mission, he could be away for ten days or half a month. I enjoy the peace and quiet on my own."

Being a sister of a firefighter, Yao Lemon naturally understood the exhaustion and danger of such work.

"Tell me honestly, is your decision to marry Gu Daxiong influenced in any way by the fact that Gu Yaoyao is his niece?"

For a long time, Yao Lemon said nothing.

"Lemon..."

"Zhenxin, just let me be willful this time, okay?" Yao Lemon suddenly looked up, gazing at her.

With that one sentence, Lin Zhenxin held back all the words she had wanted to say.

"After all, I have nothing now, so let me take a gamble!"

Yao Lemon spoke softly, placing her hand over Lin Zhenxin's, gently rubbing it.

"Also, I'm sorry for my careless words last time, saying you didn't understand love or sacrifice. Zhenxin, you're my best friend, I shouldn't have said those things; in truth... the most unreasonable one is me!"

She had long wanted to apologize but didn't expect it to happen at this moment.

Lin Zhenxin sighed, unsure if compromising this time would truly bring Lemon happiness...

By the time she got home, it was already dusk, and the second day of her vacation had been even more exhausting than a workday.

As soon as she arrived home, Aunt Xu smiled and handed her a paper bag.

Once opened, it revealed a brand new dress, with shoes and accessories already coordinated.

"A car will come to pick you up later. Mr. Li said you'll be dining out tonight."

Having said that, Aunt Xu went into the kitchen to wash strawberries. After waking up, grandma seemed to have forgotten the morning's incident and only clamored to eat strawberries.

Lin Zhenxin went to her room and changed into the outfit.

The soft fabric felt utterly different from the ones she had bought online; as for the cashmere coat, she hung it up with a hanger.

Lin Zhenxin began to seriously contemplate a matter.

Her relationship with Li Yanan.

When they got married, she never imagined she would feel a desire to protect a man she had been a stranger to.

—I hope that when Nuoxin returns, you can still tell me the same thing with unwavering conviction!

He Bainian's words had indeed planted a seed of doubt in Lin Zhenxin's heart.

Her parents' experiences made her not believe in emotions, all the more with the many betrayals around her, she felt even more insecure.

But now, she couldn't return to the initial unfamiliarity with Li Yanan, nor could she take a step forward.

Truly a dilemma!

Lin Zhenxin felt a bit lost, a bit hesitant.

Unknowingly, she sat there for more than an hour, until the sky outside had darkened, and Aunt Xu knocked on the door.

It was a signal for her to go downstairs.

Lin Zhenxin responded, put on the cashmere coat, and walked out.

She could only take one step at a time...

The driver left after taking her to the mountaintop.

Along the way, Lin Zhenxin looked out the car window at the passing reflections, lost in thought.

She only snapped back to reality when the driver stopped the car.

The surroundings were quiet; even the sound of the cold wind seemed amplified.

Wasn't it said that they were to eat? Why is it so dark, as if no one is around?

"Yanan?" As her voice echoed, a sparkling trail of lights lit up from below, illuminating the path up to her.

What was once darkness burst into radiance.

Lin Zhenxin was stunned at the sight before her and couldn't react for a while.

Once the lights were fully on, she realized she was standing before a Mountain View Villa.

She heard footsteps approaching and looked over, seeing a familiar yet unfamiliar figure.

Unfamiliar because she had never seen him dressed like this.

Familiar because she woke up every day in his arms.

"You..." For a long time, Lin Zhenxin couldn't form the next sentence.

The man before her, in a slim tailored suit, showcased his perfect physique.

His handsome features were in full view, those captivating eyes fixated on her, his thin lips smiling, forming a faint dimple.

Such an outstanding man stood not far from her.

"Zhenxin, come." He reached out to her.

Lin Zhenxin felt as if her rationality had vanished since a moment ago, walking towards him with wide-eyed astonishment.

She blindly placed her hand into his broad palm.

In the next moment, Li Yanan firmly grasped her hand, turning around and leading her inside the villa.

"Uh..." She finally realized she was so shocked she couldn't even find the words to speak!

"It's just the two of us here."

Hearing her voice, Li Yanan turned his head to look at her deeply.

Lin Zhenxin fell silent, continuing to follow his lead inside, through the foyer and along the spacious hallway into the elevated main lounge, with its luxurious U-shaped sofa that could seat over a dozen people; the grand design induced admiration.

In the distance stood an entire wall of glass, making Lin Zhenxin believe the entire nightly view of J City could be seen from upstairs.

"Why did you bring me here? And... why dress like this?"

She barely rediscovered her voice.

"I just wanted you to know that I'm not doing so badly." Li Yanan seated her at the dining table.

He wasn't doing badly at all.

Lin Zhenxin reflexively rebutted in her heart, but in truth, tonight he startled her with this change.

She felt as though she had married two different people.

The red wine was already decanted, and he poured her a glass. The red liquid swirled in the wine glass, illuminating beautifully.

Lin Zhenxin drank in confusion, and before she knew it, she had finished a glass without realizing.

"Zhenxin..." Li Yanan gently reminded her, and Lin Zhenxin looked at him questioningly. He thought for a moment, ultimately saying nothing.

He simply poured her another glass.

"Actually, there's something I've always wanted to ask you."

Perhaps the two glasses of wine relaxed her, and when she looked up, her fair face, like coconut milk, had a soft, rosy hue.

"Hmm?" Li Yanan looked at her.

"If back then, it wasn't me, but another woman who asked for marriage, would you have agreed?"

This question had indeed lingered in Lin Zhenxin's heart for a long time.

Back then, she helped him out, leading him to agree to the marriage; if it had been another woman, would he have accepted her?

Would Li Yanan have agreed as well?

If that was true, shouldn't another woman be sitting here now?

"No." A deep voice sounded.

If it had been anyone else, he wouldn't have, not even considering it.

"Don't say nice things just to appease me. Even if you said yes, I wouldn't hold it against you."

Lin Zhenxin, without the cashmere coat, looked at the man sitting across from her with a smile on her lips, just gazing at him.

Li Yanan paused his actions, deliberately suppressing the reaction that instinctively arose at seeing her smile.

"I've actually been thinking about our relationship all afternoon."

Lin Zhenxin's words cast a sharp look across Li Yanan's eyes —what did she mean by this?

He anxiously awaited her next words, but Lin Zhenxin remained silent for a long time.

She said she had been thinking about their relationship all afternoon —could it be that after last night, she regretted it?

The more Li Yanan thought, the darker his face grew, not even noticing that his grip on the silverware was about to bend them.

"Let's... be real husband and wife!"

Suddenly, as if steeling herself and gathering courage, Lin Zhenxin spoke.

Time seemed to hit a pause. Now, it was Li Yanan who remained silent for a long while.

She had enough of He Bainian's dismissive attitude toward them and enough of her own hesitation!

After the fact, Lin Zhenxin lay still on the bed.

"I... I don't want to get pregnant yet."

Neither of them was prepared, and she feared pregnancy.

"Can you help me get some medicine, please?" Lin Zhenxin bit her lower lip, feeling a bit apprehensive.

Li Yanan approached and kissed her nose tip, changed into a set of clothes, and left the room.

Soon after, the sound of a car engine could be heard from downstairs.

Lin Zhenxin lay back for a while and eventually felt strong enough to get out of bed.

She took a shower in the bathroom, and her face was still flushed red, like a blooming soft hibiscus.

Wrapped in a long bathrobe, she walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the ebb and flow of J City's nightscape —absolutely breathtaking.

This place felt like a secluded castle, quiet and lovely.

She breathed onto the glass window, casually tracing a heart shape, her reflection showing a beautiful smile.

Perhaps because she had witnessed her father's infidelity, she initially thought such acts were disgraceful and rejected them from her heart.

But she never imagined that one day, a man would come into her life and heal all of this.

"Yanan, I have to admit, if it's you, I think I might be willing..."

To gamble on a chance at happiness.

Li Yanan returned shortly.

He had managed to condense the forty-minute drive down to less than half an hour.

Bounding upstairs with the package in hand, he suddenly tensed, his expression turning cold.

No one!

The whole way, Li Yanan's biggest fear had been that Lin Zhenxin would take advantage of his absence to sneak away.

Not seeing her upon return, and feeling his worry being realized, his demeanor instantly turned icy!

"Zhenxin?" He didn't even change his shoes, marching right in.

"I'm here."

Lin Zhenxin poked her head from the third-floor staircase, hearing Li Yanan calling for her and realizing he had returned.

The heart that Li Yanan had been holding up finally relaxed, his previously tense face now smiling, making those dimples especially lively.

Lin Zhenxin was momentarily dazed, her heart pounding furiously at his smile.

"Why were you wandering around? I thought you left!"

Li Yanan sprinted up the stairs in a few strides, coming in front of her.
