Chapter 53 - 53: Stay Away from Her

"Didn't have enough for lunch?" Li Yanan left early, not knowing that Lin Zhenxin didn't eat at home.

"When you're stuck with someone you can't stand, how can you have any appetite?" To be honest, Lin Zhenxin truly thought He Bainian was sick, and not just a little sick.

"Hmm?" Li Yanan looked up at her.

"That He Bainian..." Lin Zhenxin just started speaking when she suddenly felt it wasn't right. Li Yanan had told her before to stay away from He Bainian.

She glanced at the man opposite her, and sure enough, his expression was off.

She briefly went over the situation with him, afraid he might misunderstand something.

"So you cried because of..." The implication was obvious.

"No, I cried because of something else, nothing to do with him." Lin Zhenxin quickly shook her head.

"I see." After saying this, Li Yanan continued to eat his noodles, but Lin Zhenxin was uneasy. She didn't want to lie to him, but the truth made the atmosphere too awkward, and for a moment, neither of them said anything.

After finishing the noodles, Li Yanan put on his coat and was about to leave.

"Yanan..." Lin Zhenxin thought he was angry.

Upon hearing her call him, Li Yanan turned around without saying a word. Seeing her nervous gaze, he suddenly reached out and ruffled her hair.

Only when Lin Zhenxin's long hair was thoroughly messed up did he feel satisfied.

"I'll pick you up after work."

He Bainian was driven back to the hotel by a chauffeur.

Reeking of alcohol, he collapsed on the sofa, closing his eyes to ignore the churning discomfort in his stomach.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

Despite feeling unwell, He Bainian got up to open it, but his expression darkened slightly when he saw who it was.

"Stay away from her." Li Yanan's face was expressionless; without his glasses, the coldness around him was obvious.

The two exceptionally handsome men stood facing each other, giving the impression that a battle was about to erupt.

Or perhaps, it wasn't just an impression?

"Which 'her'?" He Bainian, smelling of alcohol, scoffed.

"Lin Zhenxin."

He Bainian's mocking smile widened.

"And what about Nuoxin?" His sister, whom he had cherished since childhood.

Li Yanan's expression was stern and cold, clearly not wanting to engage in more pointless talk. Seeing him like this, He Bainian suddenly reached out and grabbed his collar. The movement between the two men became increasingly fierce, like a duel between wolves and tigers, yet neither uttered a word first.

Soon, the alcohol-drunk He Bainian found himself at a disadvantage.

Li Yanan was ruthless, each punch hit with malice, but he knew where to strike without leaving visible marks.

"He Bainian, I'll say it one more time, stay away from Zhenxin." Finally, he left with just that sentence...

That night, a listener called in with one last call, trapped in the whirlpool of an extramarital affair.

"Yi Shu once wrote that such a love is wrong for one more day it lingers, loving once makes you feel decades older. We only have this one life, why should we be mere passers-by in someone else's life? It's now 1:30 a.m., thank you for staying with me, good night."

Lin Zhenxin put away the mic, pretending not to hear her colleagues gossiping about her and He Bainian.

"Zhenxin, is that He Bainian trying to pursue you?" A familiar coworker finally laughed and approached her.

"Don't joke around, I'm already married."

Lin Zhenxin simply shook the ring on her hand, and without waiting for further questions, turned and walked toward the office building's exit.

The weather was getting colder, and Lin Zhenxin could see her breath. Her shoes were a bit thin, making her feet numb with cold.

Just as she stepped out the main door, she spotted Li Yanan getting out of his car.

As he approached, Lin Zhenxin saw the bruising on his knuckles and felt a pang in her heart.

"How did this happen?" She raised his hand to her eyes; it looked like he'd been in a fight.
