Chapter 266: The Real Benjamin

I held Jayden’s wrist to stop him from opening the door. He looked at me and smiled.

"It’s okay. I need to do this, Peg. I don’t want to be trapped anymore." He said.

I nodded and let go of him. My heart pounded when he slowly pushed the door. It gave a loud creaky sound as we waited for it to completely opened.

I gulped when I saw the interior of the house. I already expected the worst, but I frowned when it was clean and tidy. It was the only house that looked like a home.

I wondered why the apartment was neat and the furnitures were in the proper places. All the other houses, including the commercial buildings, were abandoned, burned and torned.

Jayden stepped inside and I followed. The place didn’t feel weird and eerie anymore. If we knew nothing about what had happened in the past, we could never tell that a murder occurred in that place.

"Love?" I asked confused.

"I know." He said.

I looked around and saw a cup of coffee on the table. I touched it and it was still warm. Clearly, someone was staying or maybe visiting the house when we arrived.

Jayden grabbed my hand and pulled me behind him. I was confused, but then I saw a man standing beside the fireplace. There was no lighting in that part of the house so we couldn’t see his face. He wasn’t moving either and was just standing there and staring at us.

"Who are you?" Jayden asked the man.

There was silence for a moment and then we heard the man sigh.

"I’m the caretaker." The man answered.

"Caretaker? My father didn’t hire a caretaker so don’t lie to me. Who are you?" Jayden asked again.

We heard another sigh and the man started walking toward us. His movement was slow and cautious. He would stop at every step, maybe thinking if he would come into the light.

"W-What happened here? In Willow Green." I asked.

He stopped again in the middle to answer my question.

"There was a massacre in this town. Everyone was terrified so they left."

"Massacre?" I frowned.

The man sighed again. "It happened two years ago. A group of men came in here looking for someone. When they didn’t find him, they killed the mayor and his family. It was everybody’s nightmare because they were tortured and shot in front of everyone."

"Do you know who they are?" Jayden asked.

The man nodded. "The Trekker Clan. Do you know them?"

I shook my head and turned to Jayden to see his reaction. He didn’t seem surprised about what the man said.

"Love, do you know them?" I asked.

My heart pounded when he nodded.

"The Trekker Clan was the most notorious Mafia Clan in Germany. They were a group of assassins who lived in the southern part of the country. They do not fear anyone and would kill anyone for the sake of money and power." Jayden started.

"Why would they come here and who were they looking for?" I asked, curiosity piqued.

Jayden took a deep breath and looked at her.

"They’re looking for me." He said.

I felt my knees weakened and my heart felt like it’s going to burst. I remembered what his father told me before coming to Willow Green. He said that someone was looking for Jayden.

"Why would they look for you?"

"Are you Dr.Richards son?" The man asked.

I tightened my grip at Jayden’s hand. The man knew Jayden’s father, making me feel so ancious.

Jayden nodded. "Yes. So who are you? How do you know my father?"

"I’ve been waiting for you." The man answered, still not telling us his name.

"Why?" I asked.

"Jonathan Trekker was the man who ordered to kill Lucia Castello."

My eyes widened and my body tensed. We knew there was someone behind the murder of Jayden’s mother, but I thought it was my foster father, Benjamin.

I looked at Jayden and again, he didn’t seem surprised by what the man said.

"Did you know about it?" I asked Jayden.

Jayden took a deep breath and nodded. I couldn’t believe he knew but didn’t tell me about it.

"Tell me about the Trekker Clan." I said in a firm tone.

It wasn’t a request but more like an order.

"Jonathan Trekker was the only son of George Trekker. They said he was adopted from an orphanage because George could not have a child. He was trained to become the next Mafia boss of their clan." Jayden started.

Then the man continued Jayden’s answer.

"He started having a taste of women and blood at an early age. His first kill was his cousin. He was his only friend, and they grew up together with a promise of brotherhood and loyalty, but Jonathan Trekker slit his cousin’s throat in the end." He paused then took another step forward.

"The Trekker Clan became wanted criminals in Germany and eventually to its neighboring countries. They were involved in murder, prostitution, human trafficking, kidnapping, and many illegal activites. They decided to move to Flousia and lived a quiet life for years. But after learning that the country was open to any underworld organization, they started building their names using a fake identity."

I frowned. "What’s the point of telling us about them?"

"Believe me, you need to know." The man answered.

"Jonathan Trekker worked as a spy in a restaurant near the palace. From there, he gathered information about the royal family. That’s where he learned about your mother, Princess Catherine."

I was alarmed when the man mentioned my mother’s name. How did he know I am her daughter?

"H-How did you —"

"I know a lot about you and your family, princess. But believe me, I am not your enemy." The man answered.

Jayden chuckled. "And how can we trust you? You were staying in an abandoned town and lived in this house uninvited. It seems suspicious to me."

"It is. But I stayed here hoping to see Dr.Richards and his son."

"You have not answered my questions. Who are you and how did you know us?" Jayden gritted his teeth.

The man walked forward and finally came into the light. He was younger than I expected. Maybe around his early thirties. He was about Jayden’s height and had black hair and black eyes.

"My identity had been stolen from me by that man. I am the real Benjamin Miller." The man answered.
