Chapter 96: Asking Grandma For Recipe

(Arata)

Uncle Lawrence, Aunt Mawar and Cherry were waiting at the airport. They were to accompany us.

"Arata!" Cherry ran forward, hugging me in a bone-crushing hug. The smile she held touched her soft eyes.

"Sister Cherry, how are you?" I asked, separating from her while she held my shoulders.

"Amazing as always, and I am looking forward to this much-needed vacation. Glad you decided to join us."

I winked at her. "Wouldn’t have dreamt of missing."

"Ara, it’s good to see you dear." Uncle Lawrence hugged me, followed by Aunt Mawar. Both of them wore matching Hokage shirts from their favourite anime, Naruto. Aunt Mawar had dyed her hair deep purple. Every time I met her, she had different coloured hair. The woman was a legend and both of them were fun to hang out with.

"Same feelings. Where is Aziel?" I asked, seeing their 15-year-old son was missing.

"He had a sports camp for football. His coach didn’t allow him to come," they sadly added and I nodded in understanding.

Cherry, as usual, hugged Baba, one of the few women he would let hug him. Their bond was indeed special.

"Shall we?" Baba ushered us forward and we headed towards the plane. Cherry took my arm and stayed beside me.

"How are you doing, Arata?" She quietly asked so only I could hear, concerns were deeply laced in her voice.

"Good, trying to enjoy my life and leaving the past in the past." Strangely, talking about Andy didn’t hurt much now, he was fading like a bad memory from another life.

"That’s what should be done with asses like him. If I see him, I will punch out all his teeth." She punched the air to show me how that was going to happen and I couldn’t hide my snicker.

I had grown up surrounded by strong women, Aunt Huria, Sister Cherry, Aunt Mawar, and Aunt Erdith—they knew their worth and never let others walk all over them and I was honoured to have them in my life along with my family.

"I don’t have a shard of doubt in my heart. But what about you? When are you tying the knot?"

She deflated like a balloon at my question, her upper eyelids got heavier causing the corners of her lips to be pulled downwards.

We settled down in comfortable seats of Baba’s private jet and I took a seat beside Cherry so we could speak. Fastening our seat belts, we got ready for take-off. Others had settled in front and back.

"I don’t know, Ara. I just don’t feel that connection with him. He seems distant at times..." She sighed, slumping her shoulders. I placed my arm around her in concern. She was engaged to her fiancé for a year but they had ups and downs.

"Did he say something?" I quietly but uneasily asked.

"Not particularly, but he doesn’t seem as concerned about me as I do about him. I don’t understand why relationships are so complicated."

I understood her. I had imagined my whole life with Andy, but now I didn’t even know where my life was headed and if I was ever going to be serious with someone.

Relationships, indeed, were complicated.

"From what I have learnt from my experience, just follow your heart. Life is too short to care about people who don’t care about us." I placed my head on her shoulder, her soft curls were spread all over them. She lovingly patted my face.

"I know, baby girl. I know."

Zaylen leaned in from the seat behind us and placed his hands on our heads. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

"Why the glum faces? This vacation is for relaxation and fun. Getting sad is prohibited. Come on, cheer up now."

He had a point.

"Right, so Zaylen, which car are you in a relationship with now?" Cherry turned towards my brother and wickedly winked.

"So glad you asked," he replied with a wide impish grin, his emerald eyes twinkling with a boyish passion he held for these four-wheelers. We had to hear him expound about his latest car for an entire 34 minutes.

"Shut up, Zaylen." I pushed him back towards his place with my hand on his face.

"But, the most interesting part is coming," he yelled, flailing his arms as he landed on his seat.

"Not interested," Cherry and I spoke simultaneously and burst out laughing.

Opening the seat belt, I turned and knelt on the seat to face backwards. Zaylen was sulking, sitting beside Grandma while she offered him a chocolate cookie to cheer him up. I remembered the promise I had made to Karsten.

"Grandma, can you make me some cookies before I return, but use gluten-free flour and stevia," I requested.

She extended two cookies towards me too. I handed one to Cherry while Grandma asked innocently.

"You like regular cookies, Ara. Why the sudden change?"

I took a large bite out of the sweet goodness that my grandma had baked and said between mouthfuls.

"No...it’s not for me...but for my boss. He is diet conscious but loves to take cookies with his coffee, so I thought I would show him what real cookies taste like." A grin automatically flashed on my face and Grandma returned it with a wink.

"I got you, Moonshine. He will never want any other cookies."

"Teach me the recipe as well." I dumped the rest of the cookie into my mouth and crunched on it.

"I will give it to you in written form. Just follow it and you will be good."

Thanking my Grandma, I cast a glance towards my parents. Baba was in deep talks with Uncle Lawrence about some deal he was about to make while Mom and Aunt Mawar were discussing ongoing trends in dresses. My heart eased seeing my content family and how all of us got along.

No one was going to take this away from me or hurt my family by targeting me. I could handle it without getting them involved.
