My Baby Daddy Isn't Human-Chapter 180: Cold Water
Raelynn stormed into her room, slamming the door a little too hard behind her. The sharp sound echoed through the quiet hall, making her wince. "Ugh," she groaned under her breath, feeling the flush on her cheeks intensify. Without wasting another second, she marched straight to the bathroom and shoved the door shut with equal force.
She gripped the edges of the sink, her reflection staring back at her in the mirror—flushed cheeks, wide eyes, and a frazzled expression. "Get a grip," she muttered before splashing cold water onto her face. Droplets trailed down her skin, the shock of the cold grounding her, though it did little to calm the rapid beat of her heart.
Lifting her head, she studied herself again. "You slept with him," she reminded herself out loud, her voice filled with disbelief. "You’re carrying his baby. Why the hell are you so embarrassed?"
Her fingers curled into fists against the sink. The dream from last night lingered stubbornly in her mind—the soft kisses, the warmth of his skin, the way he held her like she was his entire world. It was just a dream. It meant nothing.
"God, this is stupid," Raelynn muttered, splashing more cold water onto her face. She sucked in a deep breath, trying to shake the lingering sensations the dream had left behind. It’s just because I’ve been spending so much time with him. That’s all. No big deal.
But her heart refused to slow down.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Raelynn jumped, water dripping from her chin. The loud knocks were followed by Elion’s deep, concerned voice. "Raelynn?! Are you in there? Are you okay? Is it morning sickness again?"
She cringed at the volume. "For the love of—" she hissed, wiping her face hastily before unlocking the door.
The moment it cracked open, Elion nearly shoved his way in, his brows knitted tightly in worry. "Raelynn—"
"I’m fine!" she cut in quickly, but it didn’t stop him. His hand found her shoulder as his sharp gaze roamed over her, checking for any visible sign of discomfort.
"You don’t look fine. Is it the morning sickness again? I’ll call Sloane—"
"No!" Raelynn almost shouted, grabbing his wrist before he could reach for his phone. Her fingers lingered on his skin, feeling the strength beneath. "I’m really fine. No morning sickness. I just… needed some cold water to clear my head."
Elion’s brow furrowed. "But—"
"I’m fine, seriously," she insisted, trying to sound firm. "Do I look pale?"
He hesitated, then shook his head.
"Do I look like I’m in pain?"
Another shake.
"Exactly." Raelynn groaned inwardly. Why does he have to look so damn cute when he’s worried? She hated how it tugged at her heart.
Elion, however, didn’t seem entirely convinced. "You bolted out of the dining room. Of course, I’m worried."
Raelynn sighed internally, pressing her lips together as she avoided Elion’s sharp gaze.
She got it. Really, she did.
From an outside perspective, her actions probably looked alarming—storming out of the dining room without a word, face unreadable, body tense. If the roles were reversed, she might have reacted the same way.
So, could she really blame Elion for being worried?
No.
Even if his concerned expression made her heart ache in ways she wasn’t prepared for, even if his golden eyes looked too soft, too kind, she couldn’t fault him for asking.
Especially when I’m the reason he’s worried in the first place.
The worst part? She hadn’t even meant to bolt.
It just… happened.
One second, she was sitting there, trying to pretend everything was fine, and the next, her feet were moving before she could even process why.
The heat returned to her cheeks. She couldn’t exactly tell him it was because of a dream where he… well, did things that still had her heart racing.
"I’m fine now," she said, voice softer this time. "But you should really get going. Don’t you have work?"
Raelynn kept her expression steady, doing her best to seem unaffected.
Time to change the topic or end this conversation altogether.
The faster Elion left, the better.
She had no intention of explaining herself—not about her sudden exit, and definitely not about the dream that had left her too flustered to sit still. No way in hell was she going to stand here and risk blurting something out by accident.
Elion studied her for a long moment, his sharp gaze sweeping over her like he was trying to find the cracks in her words. And knowing him, he probably would if she didn’t shut this down now.
Raelynn exhaled slowly, keeping her shoulders relaxed, her tone light. "Seriously, I’m fine. You, on the other hand, are going to be late if you don’t get going."
He didn’t budge.
Great. Just great.
Elion was stubborn, and once he latched onto something, he never let it go easily. She could practically see the wheels turning in his head, as if he was debating whether to push further or let her off the hook.
Please let it go.
She just needed him to take the hint.
Instead, he folded his arms, tilting his head slightly. "You’re trying to get rid of me."
Raelynn’s stomach flipped. "What? No." Yes.
"Please, I don’t wanna be the reason you’re late."
"I own the company."
Raelynn glared. "Still, that doesn’t mean you can just skip out whenever you want."
"I can," he said smoothly, a teasing glint in his eyes.
"Abusing your power much?"
He chuckled but didn’t argue. Instead, he stepped in closer, his hand lifting to her hair. Raelynn froze as he brushed a strand between his fingers before bringing it to his face, inhaling the faint scent of her shampoo. Her heart nearly jumped out of her chest.
Then, with a softness that left her breathless, Elion kissed the strand. "I’ll go now." ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
Raelynn barely managed a squeaky, "Good luck."
He left the room, and she stood there, still clutching the strand of hair he had kissed, her mind an absolute chaos.
"Seriously," she whispered to herself. "What is wrong with me?"
But the tiny smile on her lips said otherwise.
