Multiversal Wanderer: Starting in Naruto-Chapter 71: Ninja Magic
Chapter 71 - 71: Ninja Magic
"It's not so restrictive at home. This is a rare golden age for the mystic lineage, especially as guests of Kamar-Taj."
The dinner was simple—more of a welcome meal for Su Xiuyu and his group. Despite that, something still felt off to Su Xiuyu. The Ancient One was unusually warm. Technically, he and his party were "foreign guests," and they should've been under her watchful eye. Yet, here she was, smiling politely. That uncharacteristic friendliness left him feeling a little uneasy.
"Thank you for the hospitality, Master Ancient One. As the Sorcerer Supreme, could you stop keeping me in suspense? What's this really about?"
The Ancient One chuckled. "I'm just curious about your attitude. Tell me, Mr. Su—aren't you interested in learning the magic of Kamar-Taj?"
Su Xiuyu was caught off guard. After all the subtle tests and tension, was she finally offering to teach him magic?
"Master Ancient One, let's be clear—I'm not gunning for the title of Sorcerer Supreme. Even so, you're willing to let me learn Kamar-Taj's magic?"
"It's fine. I believe in fate. Whether or not you want that position is irrelevant. What matters is that you're willing to help protect this planet."
As usual, she spoke casually. Even when she eventually passed the title to Strange, she'd carried the same calm energy. Death itself never seemed to faze her.
"So you'd like to learn more?" she asked.
"To be honest, yes. Kamar-Taj's magic really intrigues me. Other Disci—"
"It's alright, Mr. Su. My disciples are capable enough. We can study together. But I ask one thing in return—if ever this world is in danger, lend it your strength. I'll protect it with my life, but I hope you'll be willing to help."
The request was noble, and Su Xiuyu couldn't find a reason to reject it.
"I can't say no to that," he said with a faint smile.
With that, the Ancient One's objective was met, and Su Xiuyu and the rest continued their modest dinner.
"The Sorcerer Supreme was unusually generous with Xiu Yu. Even her offer to teach magic was a little too casual," Madara muttered.
He saw right through the Ancient One's intentions. To share that much magical knowledge on a first meeting? Kamar-Taj definitely wasn't a charity.
"Be careful, Madara," Su Xiuyu replied. "The Ancient One is trustworthy, and Kamar-Taj's magic is seriously powerful—way beyond most ordinary ninjutsu. If the Uchiha and Uzumaki clans learn magic and blend it with chakra, they could create an entirely new ninja order."
As promised, Su Xiuyu received direct magical instruction from the Ancient One. So did Madara, Izuna, Mito, and Chisato. The others weren't so lucky and had to train with Kamar-Taj's regular disciples.
But the Ancient One wasn't just known on Earth. Anyone with real influence across the cosmos had heard of her—her reputation was built not just on magic, but on destruction.
Thanks to her hands-on teaching, Su Xiuyu picked up the basics fast. And the others weren't far behind. They were all top-tier ninjas, after all. Chakra, at its core, was just another form of energy manipulation. Learning the spells of Kamar-Taj came naturally to them. It was like learning a different dialect of a language they already spoke.
Su Xiuyu quickly mastered the portal technique and even began dabbling in the mirror dimension. His prior knowledge of space-time ninjutsu gave him a huge advantage. In terms of sensing and controlling spatial fluctuations, he was second only to the Ancient One herself.
Still, Su Xiuyu had kept a few things hidden. Since awakening the deeper layers of his Ōtsutsuki bloodline after reaching Tier Six, he'd gained access to even greater spatial abilities—abilities the Ancient One hadn't seen.
He now possessed nine personal pocket dimensions, each completely under his control. Within them, his thoughts alone could move him thousands of miles instantly, free from interference.
Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's "Yomi" was similar to this—a natural inheritance from his bloodline.
"No doubt about it," Su Xiuyu thought. "The Ōtsutsuki bloodline from the Naruto world is top-tier. Even in a universe like Marvel, where power levels are insane, it holds up. Planting a divine tree is still the fastest way to boost an Ōtsutsuki's strength."
But that came with a catch.
"Too bad planting one destroys the entire planet. That's just... cruel."
And Su Xiuyu wasn't the kind of person who'd casually wipe out a world full of life. Sure, he'd grown more pragmatic over time, but that didn't mean he had no line he wouldn't cross. He had boundaries—and destroying a planet was still one of them.
As he mulled over those thoughts, another portal opened beside him.
This time, he hadn't used a Sling Ring. He'd opened the portal purely through his mastery of spatial coordinates.
Even Madara was now experimenting with bypassing the need for the ring.
"Mr. Su is quite the quick learner," the Ancient One commented, stepping through the shimmering circle. "To open a portal without the Sling Ring already? Your control over space is... impressive."
Su Xiuyu didn't even flinch. He knew the Ancient One would see through any attempt to hide his true capabilities. She was a master manipulator—just like him.
"Master Ancient One," he said calmly, "I've got a question. The energy you use to cast spells here—Kamar-Taj draws it from an external source, right?"
"Correct. Our magic relies on borrowed power—specifically, from the Trinity of Vishanti. They're three ancient gods who empower what we call 'white magic.' Kamar-Taj uses their strength."
"So," Su Xiuyu continued, as if he already knew the answer, "there's black magic too, huh?"
"You seem to know quite a bit already," the Ancient One said with a cautious smile. "But those topics are... sensitive. When your magical foundation is strong enough, we can revisit this."
Su Xiuyu smirked. As expected, she wasn't about to spill the secrets of dark magic. She'd been fighting against the corruption of those forces for years. Of course she was on guard.
But Su Xiuyu wasn't interested in dark magic anyway. What truly fascinated him was the idea of casting spells using chakra as the source of energy.
That's right—he had terrifying amounts of chakra, and yet, to perform Kamar-Taj spells, he still had to borrow power from Vishanti. What a waste.
And besides, was Vishanti really just some benevolent entity handing out power for free? Su Xiuyu wasn't buying it. In his experience, nobody gave away anything without a catch—except maybe your own parents. Free power always came with strings attached.
And Su Xiuyu had no interest in dancing for some dimensional gods.
-----------------
"Master Ancient One, I actually have another question." Su Xiuyu paused, gathering his thoughts. "If I wanted to use the power of the Vishanti to cast spells, would that be possible? I think it should be, but since this is my first time learning magic, I feel like a headless fly—I don't really know where to begin."
Sorcerer Supreme was momentarily stunned. He studied Su Xiuyu carefully, as if trying to see straight through him. The scrutiny made Su Xiuyu blush a little.
"Master, did I say something wrong? I just want to cast spells using my own power. Is that not allowed? Depending on borrowed power always feels... risky."
"You really have that much energy to throw around?" Ancient One arched a brow. While she'd fought Su Xiuyu during her test earlier, she still didn't fully grasp the depths of his abilities. She did know, however, that his energy reserves were vast—and his recovery rate was absurdly fast.
"Well... maybe just a little," Su Xiuyu replied nonchalantly, his tone playful.
"A little?" Ancient One repeated.
"Yeah. Just a little," he grinned.
Ancient One nodded slowly, getting a clearer sense of his personality. She was beginning to understand that Su Xiuyu had a habit of going off on wild tangents mid-conversation. While she caught on to his dry humor, it often disrupted her flow of thought.
"In principle, yes, it's entirely possible. The spellcasters of Kamar-Taj do gain enough energy through practice to power spells without relying exclusively on outside forces. While most of our magic draws on the Vishanti, it's not mandatory. You can change the source of power used to cast the spell—as long as you can control it."
"So," Su Xiuyu clarified, "if I wanted to use my own chakra instead of the Vishanti's power, I could?"
Ancient One nodded. "You've got enough energy to burn through, sure. If that's what you want, go for it."
"Then I'd like to request access to the relevant materials."
Ancient One smiled faintly. "The spell records are all in the Kamar-Taj library. You'll need to figure it out yourself, though. Linking your own body's energy to spellcasting isn't something we typically teach. I can only confirm that it's theoretically sound."
The two of them walked together toward the library. It was one of the open days, and only a few slightly pudgy young acolytes were scattered about, reading quietly.
The moment the library doors creaked open, a man stood up and bowed slightly toward Gu Yi. "Master Ancient One."
"No need for such formality, Wong," she said. "Mr. Su here is something of a compatriot—at least in a multiversal sense. He's looking into the source of magical power. Please assist him. I believe you two may find you have much in common."
Wong was still young—his face carried the softness of youth, and he had a bit of baby fat.
"Thanks for the help, Wong," Su Xiuyu said with a smile. "Strictly speaking, I'm also from China, so I'm sure we'll get along."
Wong shook his hand, nodding in agreement before guiding him toward the section of the library focused on magical energy sources.
Ancient One quietly took her leave, disappearing to attend to other matters.
"So," Su Xiuyu asked casually, "what's your dream, Wong?"
"Hm?" Wong paused for a moment, thinking. "I guess... to become the head librarian of Kamar-Taj. It'd be the perfect job—studying ancient magical texts while working. Can't get better than that."
"There's no one managing the library now?"
"I handle most of the organization and upkeep," Wong explained. "But my magical training isn't quite there yet. I'm not officially the administrator."
He pointed toward a roped-off section of shelves. "This area contains the more restricted texts on magical origins. Just a heads-up—unauthorized reading of prohibited books is strictly forbidden."
"Thanks for the warning," Su Xiuyu replied, already distracted by the rows of tomes. He dove straight into reading.
The collection at Kamar-Taj was far more expansive than he expected. Su Xiuyu figured this was likely due to the generations of Sorcerer Supremes collecting and preserving magical knowledge. Especially the first Supreme Sorcerer, who had discovered the essence of white magic and obtained the Book of the Vishanti, said to contain every white magic spell in existence. That sorcerer had then defeated countless others to earn the title of Sorcerer Supreme.
The Ancient One, Su Xiuyu realized, wasn't just a guardian of that legacy—she was its integrator. Yet Su Xiuyu always found it strange how she allowed her apprentice, Karl Mordo, to spiral into darkness. She neither stopped accepting new disciples nor made any serious attempt to save the two who'd fallen from grace. Perhaps, he thought, her obsession with fate and preserving the timeline had reshaped her priorities.
After over a month of intense study, Su Xiuyu finally achieved a breakthrough. He found a way to switch the energy source of a spell. Following the methods for white magic, he crafted a magical contract with himself, using his own chakra to replace the power of the Vishanti as the engine behind his spellcasting.
To test it, Su Xiuyu opened a portal using Kamar-Taj techniques and stepped into the Astral Dimension. As he stabilized the portal, he felt the chakra drain from his body—normal, manageable, and comparable to casting high-level ninjutsu. No more, no less.
Unlike traditional ninjutsu, which required specific chakra nature to activate, Kamar-Taj's spellcasting didn't discriminate. As long as you had a steady chakra flow, the spells worked. That led Su Xiuyu to theorize how Kamar-Taj differentiated spell types.
Kamar-Taj's magic had no elemental leanings, no strong affinity for nature transformations. For someone like Su Xiuyu this was a gift. His mastery over all chakra attributes made the lack of restrictions a blessing.
Once he'd fully grasped the process, Su Xiuyu wasted no time passing it on to Madara. After some direct guidance, Madara, Izuna, and Mito Chiri quickly picked it up. His clan members, though talented, were still working through the basic spell lessons and hadn't progressed as fast.
One day, Su Xiuyu approached the Ancient One again. "Master, I'll be heading out for a while. I want to explore a bit."
He'd been at Kamar-Taj for half a year, and the remote location was beginning to wear on him. The snowy mountains were stunning, sure—but the food was mid at best, and his clan members were starting to complain.
"No problem, Mr. Su. It's natural. You're young and curious. What about your people? Their progress is decent, but still far from the level I expect in a disciple."
"They'll continue training here. I appreciate your guidance, Master Ancient One."
Su Xiuyu paused, then added with a sly smile, "By the way, Master... would you be interested in learning a completely different magic system?"
