Married To The Mad Vampire Lord-Chapter 151: For you
Chapter 151: For you
"I did not see it, but I heard it. I think they killed someone..." she said quietly, tightening her arm around his midsection where she had draped it. "I wish the king would cancel the season and not allow such a thing anymore."
"You don’t want the game to happen anymore?" came Rohan’s gentle question.
No sane person would want to be part of such a game where they killed each other instead of hunting, Belle thought to herself, and then gave a small nod. He brought his other hand up and touched her nose, a crooked smile gracing his lips.
"Then I will make this year become the last time there will be such a game," he said, with a conviction that sounded like a promise.
Belle’s brows drew together. "How are you going to do that? You can’t change the king’s mind."
From what she observed, the king didn’t like Rohan. In fact, they seemed to resent each other so deeply that they didn’t bother to hide it when their eyes met across the hall. Not to mention how the king constantly tried to test Rohan’s sanity, always searching for an excuse to send him back to the madhouse.
Someone so desperate to lock him away would never listen to him, let alone take his suggestion seriously to end the hunt. If anything, the king would only make the game harder for Rohan out of spite.
Rohan laughed. "Who said anything about changing the king’s mind? That bastard would never listen to any words of suggestion I bring." He clicked his tongue, causing Belle to look up at him.
His dark eyes blended into the shadows of the night, unreadable, while the faint glow of the fire cast warm light along the strong line of his jaw. She couldn’t stop herself, her hand rose and gently touched his face, her fingers brushing along his jaw as if to anchor herself in the moment.
"Then how are you going to stop it from happening again?" she asked softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
There was a pause from him, and then a sinister kind of grin slowly curved his lips. He leaned down, his face so close she could feel his breath as he whispered,
"I can become the king for you. Once I take the throne, I’ll be able to grant you your wish and cancel the hunt from ever happening."
Belle froze, her eyes widening slightly, and then she blinked, unsure if she had heard him right.
She chuckled softly and decided to believe he was only joking, because him being on the throne after his uncle was now impossible, not unless his uncle died and his cousins were unable to provide an heir and he provided it, would he have a chance with the throne. But even though she thought he did not mean the words, she told him,
"You shouldn’t say things like that outside. If anyone overhears you, it would be considered treason."
He only smiled even more at her words of caution and pulled her closer to him. "Whatever you want, my love." He pressed his lips to her forehead. He had already taken her first words seriously, about her not liking the hunt and wanting it to stop.
He would stop it for her. He would, surely.
Not just the game, if she told him she wanted the king’s head along with it, he would get it for her on a platter and present it to her.
He couldn’t keep his hands to himself anymore. He took her hand, tugged her against him, and wrapped his arm firmly around her waist. Lowering his cheek to her fragrant hair, he let her warmth soak into his cold body, where his temperature had been steadily dropping with every passing hour.
She was the only thing keeping him grounded and sane now. Without her, he didn’t know what would have happened in the hall last night and this morning. He lowered his lips to hers in a soft kiss. He had never lasted this long in this condition, but she had helped, first by giving him the cotton, and now, just by being here.
The least he could do to repay her was to give her everything she ever wanted, big or small, even if it meant taking the throne just to place it at her feet.
Belle relaxed with a soft sigh against him, and Rohan closed his eyes, focusing only on the heat of her body, the softness of her pressed against him.
"Rohan," Belle murmured after a while.
He hummed in response and pressed a kiss to her hair.
"Will the hunt finish tomorrow?" she asked quietly.
"If it doesn’t, I’ll take you back home," he said, his tone casual. "We’ve participated enough, and everyone knows it. Once it ends, we’ll return to the royal castle to feast with everyone."
As he spoke, he rubbed her bottom slowly with his large hand, pulling her closer as he shifted to lie on his side, keeping her tucked into him.
"Won’t we get in trouble for doing that?" Belle asked, her voice breathless from the way his hand moved boldly over her backside in a slow, sensual caress.
"We participated, it’s enough. You just need to return to your group members in the morning, and I’ll come over in the evening and compel them into never mentioning to anyone that we left before it ended. No one will question it," he said, already laying out his plan. He would need to feed and look around to see if there were any signs of the hunt ending. If it didn’t, he would take her away.
Before she could argue, Rohan smirked, leaned down, and claimed her lips in a hungry kiss, his hands roaming her body with controlled urgency. But whatever he did, he didn’t let it go too far. He pulled back, brushing a thumb along her cheek.
"Go to sleep," he murmured.
Being exhausted already, Belle didn’t fight the sleep that claimed her in its warmth, but it wasn’t the peaceful rest she had hoped for. Instead, she was greeted by her childhood’s worst nightmare, one she thought would never come back to haunt her again.
She hadn’t had it in a long time.
