Love Affairs in Melbourne-Chapter 99 - 96 The Gift with a Story
Chapter 99: Chapter 96 The Gift with a Story
"Who goes online and remembers all this stuff? I think I’d better stop talking. There must be a huge pit ahead waiting for me," Qi Yi had an ominous premonition.
"Don’t explain," Yan Yan said with a delighted smile. Seeing Qi Yi had caught on, she couldn’t keep up her serious act anymore.
"To explain is to cover up, to cover up is to feel guilty, to feel guilty is to have done something wrong," Qi Yi continued for her, saying what she was about to say next.
"Hahaha, not bad, Xiao Qizi, you’re now well-versed in your master’s schemes~" Yan Yan manually gave Qi Yi a thumbs up.
Yan Yan took out a gift for Qi Yi from the wardrobe: "If you did something wrong, then you have to accept the punishment. Try on your gift."
Yan Yan handed Qi Yi an article of clothing.
Yan Yan had a very good foundation in drawing and design, and her hand-drawn drafts were often used by teachers as examples and for their collections.
In addition to hand-drawn designs, Yan Yan also excelled in computer design, especially with the recently popular 3D Marvelous Designer software.
However, when it came to fashion design, Yan Yan was actually a later starter.
She had strengths and weaknesses.
Yan Yan was relatively weak at manual pattern-making; her cutting and tailoring skills needed improvement.
For those studying fashion, to have theoretical capabilities and practical abilities not on the same level was, in fact, a critical weakness.
Even though Yan Yan planned to focus deeply on shoe-making in the future and didn’t aim for any grand achievements in clothing design, she had no intention of turning a blind eye to her weaknesses.
Whatever needed to be learned, she could not afford to neglect.
The reason Yan Yan was eager to return home was that her mother found her a master in Su Embroidery and Su-style Qipao pattern-making to study pattern-making with.
For clothing, besides fabric and design, the pattern cut is truly crucial.
Nowadays, many luxury brand clothes on the market are basically tailored for Europeans and Americans.
Such cuts often don’t fit Asians as well.
Especially for formal wear, Europeans’ formal attire often presents a challenge for many Asians to carry off.
Most people tend to blame their own body shape, but actually, if the pattern is well made, most people shouldn’t have this problem.
Design determines whether clothing looks good; pattern cut determines whether it fits.
Just as you rarely hear of someone unable to carry off a custom-made Qipao.
Yan Yan wanted to master more and better patterns that both Europeans and Asians could wear.
During the New Year’s period, Yan Yan drew many architectural ink sketches. free𝑤ebnovel.com
Yan Yan used her sketches of Wenzhou High School, made all the patterns herself, and with Yanlu Machinery’s computerized embroidery machines, she embroidered all of them in black onto a piece of white Holland and Sherry 190s all-wool superfine fabric.
In the field of clothing fabrics, Holland and Sherry is definitely considered a luxury brand, and the 190s fabric is quite rare, usually used for especially high-end custom-made suits.
The fabric that Yan Yan purchased had an exceptional hand feel, as soft as a newborn baby’s skin.
But the designer Yan Yan’s ideas were unconventional; such a thick and high-quality fabric, she used it to make an oddly-shaped three-dimensional T-shirt.
The white fabric with black embroidery looked like architectural pen drawings.
Yan Yan had transformed her prior flat architectural ink sketches on the drawing paper into three-dimensional ones.
The 190s full wool worsted fabric is very "sturdy," so the "T-shirt" Yan Yan gave to Qi Yi has several three-dimensional school buildings on it, like a pop-up book that can be opened, revealing embroidered figures inside.
This kind of garment would be a real eye-catcher at a fashion week runway show.
On an ordinary person, though, it might be a bit difficult to pull off.
And, it’s not at all Qi Yi’s usual style of dressing.
Yan Yan’s gift to Qi Yi was a "grand gesture," starting with the choice of fabric, already revealing the luxurious nature of this garment.
Yet, the fabric isn’t the main reason this garment is so special, it is not only Yan Yan’s first foray into three-dimensional cutting, but also a garment with a "story."
Every blade of grass and tree at school, Yan Yan depicted them very vividly. On the railings of the school buildings, at the library entrance, there were the silhouettes of Yan Yan and Qi Yi.
Qi Yi cherished this gift.
Cherished, as in the literal sense, loving it so much he didn’t want to let it out of his hands.
Holding it was a pleasure, but wearing it, he wasn’t sure what that would feel like.
Having a girlfriend who’s a designer with an uninhibited imagination can always bring some surprises and troubles that others might not experience.
Qi Yi was quite reluctant to wear this garment; his inner resistance was strong.
His expression alone showed his unwillingness.
Apart from the garment being too unconventional for him, what Qi Yi cared about more was that once he put it on, the three-dimensional "school building" in front of him would interfere with the "hug" benefit he was allowed.
"Xiao Qizi, why do you look unimpressed with my astonishing creation?" Yan Yan expressed dissatisfaction with Qi Yi’s resistance.
"Xiao Qizi wouldn’t dare to; such a precious garment, this little one dares not change into it before taking a bath," Qi Yi had no reason not to like the garment Yan Yan gave him that recorded their high school days.
It’s just that Qi Yi’s brain worked too fast; he hadn’t even put on the garment, yet he had already thought of many inconveniences that would follow.
Qi Yi was also a bit puzzled, as Yan Yan had just asked him to stay, then brought out this garment.
When Yan Yan made this garment, did she have the intention of "anti-hug" in mind?
"Well then, hurry up and take a bath and change, then go to bed, and I’ll sit by the side and draw," Yan Yan did not refute Qi Yi’s assertion of bathing before changing.
"Which side?" Qi Yi was always able to find the points of concern to him, the ones that were a bit different, in Yan Yan’s words.
"Whichever side, I don’t need an easel to sketch; sitting anywhere would be about the same." Yan Yan had even tried lying on the bed drawing sketches.
"Then could you sit on the bed to draw?" Qi Yi immediately followed up with his own interested question.
"Sure, you hurry up and take a bath, put on the clothes, and I’ll sit on the bed and draw while later we can chat for a while, and you can sleep well after that. You have to get up early tomorrow to continue your job training," Yan Yan arranged two pillows, sat on one side of the bed, and started drawing without waiting for Qi Yi to go take a bath.
Design requires inspiration, and inspiration is fleeting, so when it comes, it must be seized immediately.
Before Qi Yi went to take a shower, Yan Yan was drawing, and after Qi Yi came out from the shower, Yan Yan was still drawing.
Qi Yi originally thought that when he came out, Yan Yan would be struggling to hold back her amusement, waiting to see him in his "peculiar and unique outfit."
But Yan Yan was immersed in her world of drawing sketches, and it wasn’t until Qi Yi had already walked up to the bed that she finally reacted and looked up at her boyfriend and her "masterpiece."
"Qi Yi, you wearing this garment is really..." Yan Yan assessed Qi Yi in her "grand work" up and down.
"Really what? If it looks bad, you’re responsible for me," Qi Yi had put it on but hadn’t even looked at himself in the mirror yet.
"I didn’t say it looked bad—come on, who do you think designed it! I just don’t know what adjective to use; it’s as if my entire high school years are standing before me," Yan Yan finally figured out how to phrase her thoughts.
