Chapter 95: Chapter 92: The Most Romantic Number

The night before, Yan Yan had abided by the principle that if an inch is given, a foot cannot be taken.

It was rare that she didn’t succumb to Qi Yi’s verbal onslaught.

After all, Qi Yi hadn’t been incredibly persistent or determined to immediately achieve his goal.

Kissing, after all, shouldn’t contain any element of reluctance.

Either don’t ask and just do it, or once you’ve carelessly asked, all you can do is patiently wait.

Qi Yi felt that he had been a bit adorably foolish at the time.

After he had foolishly asked, Yan Yan had already been very frank with him yesterday about her reasons for disagreeing.

Although Qi Yi felt somewhat unwilling, he wasn’t dissatisfied.

As for a first kiss, Qi Yi had waited from high school until after graduating from college, and he didn’t mind being patient for a few more months.

When Qi Yi saw Yan Yan again, it was already dinnertime the following day.

He didn’t quite understand why the time passed so quickly last night but felt as though the day dragged on endlessly during his onboarding training.

Qi Yi had planned to take Yan Yan out for lunch at noon.

During a break in the training, he had sent Yan Yan a message, but she didn’t reply at all.

For Yan Yan’s biological clock, lunchtime equated to the wee hours of the morning.

Those who decide not to adjust to the time difference will surely be asleep during lunchtime.

Qi Yi had no choice but to send Yan Yan another message:

Waiwai, do you know which among the ten numbers from 0 to 9 is the most romantic? When you wake up and finish school, if you’re bored, have nothing to do, and miss me terribly, think about this very, very simple math problem.

The question Qi Yi asked was one for which Yan Yan had an answer at first glance. Among the ten numbers, the most romantic was obviously 2 - what could be more romantic than "Love"?

Otherwise, it was 3, "Miss" also seemed somewhat romantic.

But if it really was 2 and 3, the question would be too simple.

Qi Yi surely wouldn’t pose such an intelligence-insulting question.

Yan Yan thought about it for a long time but couldn’t come up with any other explanation besides these two numbers.

Fortunately, Qi Yi’s orientation was about to end today.

Once they met, the answer would naturally be revealed.

Qi Yi was feeling rather gloomy today.

His girlfriend, whom he hadn’t seen for so long, had come all the way to see him, and she was right here in New York.

At such times, Qi Yi wanted to stay by Yan Yan’s side and not leave for a single step.

Even if they did nothing, just watching Yan Yan sleep was fine.

Last night, Qi Yi didn’t want to leave at all, but Yan Yan gave him no chance to stay.

Yan Yan said they shouldn’t be together every single moment.

But since reuniting, they hadn’t even had a single day of being together from morning to night.

Qi Yi missed the high school days terribly, when he could watch her during class and stick close to her afterward.

Back when they were in school, they always thought they would be free once they started working, but only upon starting work did they realize that school was when they were really free.

Qi Yi was a very rational person, but now he found it somewhat unacceptable that his girlfriend was even more rational than him.

Yan Yan could say to be patient and composed and she would be, so why couldn’t he?

Qi Yi didn’t say a word when he saw Yan Yan again, as if they had truly been "separated for three seasons," on the streets of New York, he just went up and gave her a hug, with great strength, holding her very tightly.

Who cares about the city’s appearance or something that’s unsightly? If he didn’t give her a proper hug now, Yan Yan might walk away.

If he didn’t hug Yan Yan while she was in New York, was he supposed to wait until she left and then hug a pillow?

"What’s gotten into you?" Yan Yan was a bit bewildered by Qi Yi’s embrace.

"Exercising my rights as a boyfriend," Qi Yi showed no signs of letting go.

"Well, then go ahead and exercise them," Yan Yan thought she shouldn’t be so petty about such a small request to hug Qi Yi.

Yan Yan came to New York to surprise Qi Yi, not to make him feel downhearted.

When Yan Yan said she agreed to Qi Yi exercising his rights, he finally let go.

"I’m sorry," Qi Yi’s face was filled with regret.

"Why are you sorry? Because you hugged me?" Yan Yan didn’t understand why Qi Yi suddenly had such a big emotional shift.

"Yeah, for hugging you in public without permission," Qi Yi willingly confessed his "crime."

"Why apologize for such a thing? Isn’t that exactly what your right is? Come on, hug me for a bit more." Yan Yan took the initiative to pull Qi Yi’s hands around her.

"You don’t mind doing this in public?" Qi Yi obediently hugged her again.

"I don’t know these people, why should I care about them?" Yan Yan felt that Qi Yi probably took her previous teasing literally.

Hugging is nothing uncommon abroad.

Australians are rather warm-hearted; in Melbourne, you don’t even have to be in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, just ordinary acquaintances, sometimes even less so, often greet each other with a warm embrace on the street.

Yan Yan never meant to refuse a hug, which is why, when Qi Yi asked previously, she agreed without a second thought.

Upon hearing he really had the right to hug her in the street, Qi Yi began to hug her and showed no sign of stopping.

"Are you planning to keep hugging me until tomorrow morning?" Yan Yan didn’t know how long Qi Yi had hugged her, but he still didn’t let go, looking incredibly childish now.

"Can’t I? Didn’t you say it’s my right?" Qi Yi still didn’t release his grip.

"That’s true, but even if my heart agrees, my stomach won’t," Yan Yan’s "breakfast" time had arrived.

"What would you like for dinner tonight?" Qi Yi asked Yan Yan.

"It doesn’t matter, any cuisine is fine, as long as it’s delicious. I’ll leave it to you to decide," Yan Yan decided to defer to the host.

"Okay, I’ll make the decision, then. Have you found the answer to that number problem yet?" Qi Yi asked Yan Yan.

"Is it 2 or 3?" Yan Yan offered a guess she had thought of before.

"No, it’s not," Qi Yi negated Yan Yan’s answer.

"I thought it wouldn’t be; you wouldn’t ask such a simple question," Yan Yan wasn’t surprised by Qi Yi’s response.

"It’s not hard, guess again," Qi Yi urged her to continue guessing.

"I don’t want to; I’ll never guess it anyway. Can’t you just tell me the answer?" Yan Yan decided to give up.

"You could try one more random guess, with just ten numbers left, you’d have a 12.5% chance of getting it right," Qi Yi evidently didn’t want Yan Yan to quit so easily.

"I don’t want to, a 12.5% chance is too low to spark my interest," Yan Yan was certainly teasing.

"You don’t have to guess, just give me a kiss as compensation," Qi Yi now played his trump card.

"Do you enjoy this?" Yan Yan questioned Qi Yi.

"Not really, it was supposed to be a romantic number question, and it turned into a haggling deal. How could that be fun?" Qi Yi started to miss that particularly "obedient" Yan Yan from high school.

"Is it 0~?" Yan Yan suddenly began to guess playfully.
