Chapter 30: Chapter 29 Everything Is What You Think It Is (Added for the 2nd Time Winning the Bestseller List)

"Your hobby sure is consistent," Yan Yan rarely visited our school’s library. I used to live at QV, right next to the Victorian State Library. I’ll take you there sometime, the library is right in the very center of Melbourne." Yan Yan offered her own suggestion.

"Then I’d also like to take a look at your college," Qi Yi made a new request.

"Our college? Didn’t you say you didn’t want to be a tourist? Besides, I double majored during my undergrad, and the Melbourne University School of Design’s building is particularly modern, mismatching the rest of the school’s style.

The Law School and the Old Arts Building are actually the most famous ’been there’ photo spots," said Yan Yan, even though she still ended up taking Qi Yi to the School of Design’s building.

"I just want to take a photo at the entrance to your college, to tell myself that I’ve really been here," Qi Yi said, feeling quite moved.

"Grandpa, haven’t you noticed that even when you say such profound things, they still sound melodramatic?" Yan Yan felt a bit overwhelmed.

"With age comes more sentiment," Qi Yi was in good spirits, ready to accept whatever Yan Yan said.

"Alright, since you’re older and tired today, I’ll take you, this ’tourist,’ on the most relaxed and leisurely Melbourne one-day tour," Yan Yan finally figured out what to do that day.

"I didn’t come for tourism," Qi Yi stressed again.

"Mm, okay, I know. I’ll show you around the city in the most relaxed and leisurely way, to experience a day in Yan Yan’s life. That should be fine, right?" Yan Yan asked Qi Yi.

"That’s fine, so where are you planning to take me now?" Qi Yi asked Yan Yan after taking the tourist photo.

"We’ll go to Lygon Street next to our school. This street is Melbourne’s gourmet food street, and also Italy Street, with many specially delicious Italian restaurants," Yan Yan decided where to go next.

Without a car, the distance from Monash University to Lygon Street is perfect for a post-meal walk. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

"And then?" Qi Yi looked worried.

He was somewhat puzzled; they had just finished breakfast, and here was Yan Yan, talking about a food street near the school again.

"And then, it’s precisely because of this street’s existence that our school doesn’t have a decent canteen. On Lygon Street, there’s Papa Gino’s Pizza, a place that’s won the global pizza competition, unbeatable in the universe," Yan Yan paused here, "but rest assured, I don’t plan to take you there to eat."

"Good thing you didn’t say we’re going to eat; I’m just full," Qi Yi breathed a sigh of relief. He felt that the bowl of unremarkable noodles they’d just eaten was indeed filling enough.

"Mm, I won’t take you to Papa Gino’s. When we get to Lygon Street, I’ll first take you to Brunetti, an Italian dessert shop on a side street, for brunch. Then, we’ll head to Grill’d for a super invincible large hamburger for lunch," Yan Yan revealed the detailed plan.

"Now go for brunch and lunch?" Qi Yi was a bit confused whether Yan Yan was serious or joking.

"Yes, everyone should have a second stomach, especially for desserts," Yan Yan intended no joke.

"What about the burgers?" Qi Yi asked.

"After all the sweets, we’ll need something savory to cut through the richness," Yan Yan responded without hesitation.

"Who plans an itinerary like this?" Qi Yi was still skeptical.

"Didn’t you say not to be a tourist? I’m showing you a day in the life of ’Yan Yan.’"

"You really can eat that much? How can you eat like that and still be as thin as a bolt of lightning?"

"Do you want to hear the truth or a lie?"

"I want to hear both."

"The lie is what you suspect."

"Shouldn’t that be the truth?"

"No, it shouldn’t be, because the truth needs scientific data to back it up."

"Then tell me the truth."

"People who can’t gain weight usually have insulin levels that are different from the average person.

There are people in the world who, no matter how much they eat, never gain weight; in fact, they seem to lose weight the more they eat. I am one of them.

The reason for this condition is the opposite of what causes diabetes in people.

Our insulin levels are a bit higher than average and rise the more we eat.

As a result, whether it’s fats or proteins, our bodies break them down much faster than the average person.

There has been a lot of research in medicine and biology at the University of Melbourne on this topic over the past two years."

"How are you able to seamlessly connect eating with academic research?"

"Because I’m Yan Yan," Yan Yan replied very naturally.

Qi Yi had never heard Yan Yan speak this way before; moreover, such an expression would not normally come from someone who always wanted to be just like everyone else, not wanting to stand out.

The self-assured and unrestrained Yan Yan that stood before Qi Yi was someone he never could have encountered during their high school years.

Qi Yi felt that the Yan Yan walking beside him now was very different from his past self.

"Didn’t you apply to the School of Journalism for the college entrance exam? Why are you at the School of Design now?" Qi Yi had been curious about Yan Yan’s current major since he saw Yan Yan taking pictures in front of his school.

"I was foolish in high school. I didn’t realize that choosing a major that accepted both arts and sciences meant I was completely parting ways with the sciences.

Plus, I thought I liked journalism and had a dream of becoming a reporter.

Turns out, I actually preferred making models by hand, drawing up designs on the computer, and such.

Melbourne University School of Design, despite its name, is more accurately an architectural design school.

I initially chose it because I heard that the architecture at the University of Melbourne was particularly strong (note 1).

When I applied for my undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne, I specifically picked a particularly STEM-oriented major within MSD, the Mechanical System.

At the beginning, I thought that after studying arts for a year, going back to sciences wouldn’t be an easy ride.

It was only later that I discovered that I was born to study architectural design.

In the end, I decided to take a double major.

I also pursued Graphic Design, another field I enjoy," Yan Yan became more talkative when discussing the majors he liked.

"You think you liked journalism, you also thought it wouldn’t be an easy ride, you always love to be presumptuous.

You thought I wanted to go to Peking University, and you also thought that I was doing well there.

It’s just you, always presuming and presuming, everything according to your presumptions," the tone of Qi Yi’s voice sounded as if he didn’t even have the strength to complain anymore.

"Uh, did I get everything wrong? Are you not doing well at Peking University?" Yan Yan couldn’t quite believe the question he had just asked. Someone like Qi Yi should excel and be sought after wherever he went.
