Love Affairs in Melbourne-Chapter 104 - 101: Upstaging the Host
Chapter 104: Chapter 101: Upstaging the Host
Liu Siyan and Lu Ying’s wedding was set for the Xinmao Year, Bing Shen month, Ding Mo Day.
Wenzhou people are very particular about picking wedding dates, the favorable days for marriage are often booked at hotels at least a year in advance.
If someone decides to get married on short notice, they can at most just register their marriage first. It’s practically impossible to have a decent wedding banquet at a Wenzhou hotel on short notice.
Of course, sometimes there are people who change their plans a year in advance, and that’s when others can take advantage of the opening.
However, taking advantage of such cancellations is considered somewhat unlucky, so for people like Liu Siyan and Lu Ying who planned to marry right after graduation, their families booked the hotel two years ahead of time.
This might sound exaggerated, but it’s quite normal for Wenzhou people.
Back in 2011, there weren’t many five-star hotels suitable for wedding banquets in Wenzhou, apart from the time-honored local Huaqiao Hotel, Shangri-La, and Wanhe Hotel. Demand outstripped supply, and there was no chance without booking ahead.
In early July, while Yan Yan was still in the country, Chu Ying organized a small reunion, calling out Yan Yan, classmates who returned to work in Wenzhou after graduation, and the bride and groom-to-be.
During high school, Chu Ying was well-acquainted with most of the girls in his class, except for Yan Yan and Lu Ying.
Chu Ying’s principle was to keep a respectful distance from girls who were taken.
Just because he had no improper thoughts about the girls in class didn’t mean their boyfriends wouldn’t mind.
After the college entrance examination, when Qi Yi disappeared off the face of the earth, Chu Ying began to treat Yan Yan like a normal female classmate.
Most of the students who attended the reunion were fairly interested in gossip about Yan Yan and Qi Yi—that’s only human nature.
Only Chu Ying was slightly different from the rest.
Chu Ying knew too many gossips that he couldn’t talk about; he never pried into these matters—they always found their way to him.
Chu Ying was more concerned about whether Yan Yan had confirmed her return in August.
Organizing a reunion that all 44 classmates would attend wasn’t simple, especially since most of them had just graduated and started working.
Chu Ying needed to first coordinate the travel plans of those classmates overseas and those living far away.
"Shadow, I feel like you’re kind of stealing the show here," Yan Yan teased Chu Ying playfully. "Liu Siyan and Lu Ying are taking it easy with their wedding, and here you are bustling around."
But what Yan Yan said was also true.
Liu Siyan and Lu Ying had returned at the beginning of July to prepare for the wedding.
But the two of them had been dating for six or seven years, and their families had already prepared everything needed for the wedding. In fact, upon their return, there really wasn’t much for them to do; they were mostly back to "attend" their own wedding.
The most tedious part of the wedding, like arranging seats for relatives and friends, didn’t require the younger generation to get involved at all.
The only thing Liu Siyan and Lu Ying needed to take care of themselves was the seating arrangement for their classmates.
And this task was delegated early on, quite happily, to Chu Ying.
"It’s not about stealing the show; he’s just getting some practice in advance. If you’re eager to learn, you’re quite welcome to help with these arrangements. Neither Liu Siyan nor I would mind," said Lu Ying, who mastered the art of dressing and looking good after going to the university.
Lu Ying was radiant and very pretty now.
"Ah, I was just thinking that the Lu Family’s girl has changed so much, and I wanted to help you pick out a dress as a wedding gift. But it looks like you probably don’t want one now~," Yan Yan said with an air of regret.
"A formal dress! I almost forgot you’re studying design now? Are you going to make one for me?" Lu Ying immediately lost the urge to continue teasing Yan Yan.
"I mainly do hand drawings now, and less production. Let me take your measurements later, and I will find a Qipao master to make a Chinese toast dress for you." Yan Yan planned to give Lu Ying a Suzhou-style Qipao as a wedding gift.
Since she decided to give a Qipao to Lu Ying, she had to take her measurements; therefore, Yan Yan had never intended to make it a surprise.
After the dress was made, one would certainly have to try it on to know whether it was a good fit.
Using the dress as a shield to prevent Lu Ying from teasing her was just a convenient excuse for Yan Yan.
In high school, no one targeted Yan Yan. Not only did she have a close friend like Jin Jin, but she also didn’t have particularly bad relationships with other classmates.
During high school, Yan Yan and Lu Ying were just regular classmates and were not the type to hang out together all the time.
This time, returning to Wenzhou, Yan Yan already felt a natural fondness for Lu Ying, which stemmed from her fondness for Liu Siyan.
And the reason Yan Yan felt fond towards Liu Siyan was because of Qi Yi.
When they reunited in Melbourne, Yan Yan heard from Qi Yi about the inconceivable feat of strategizing to control their college entrance examination scores together.
It was this detail that made Yan Yan categorize Liu Siyan as one of Qi Yi’s brothers from his high school days.
A boyfriend’s brother getting married naturally required preparing a wedding gift that was significant.
Yan Yan considered making a whimsical design to tease the couple, but in the end, she gave up the idea.
Someone else’s wedding was not an occasion suitable for pranks.
"Do you want to design a class T-shirt for us? A simple T-shirt will do, so it will look neat and nice for photos." Chu Ying asked Yan Yan.
Chu Ying knew early on that Yan Yan was studying fashion design, but if Lu Ying hadn’t asked Yan Yan about making a dress today, Chu Ying wouldn’t have thought of asking Yan Yan to design a class T-shirt.
Having a class reunion and making a class T-shirt was quite common, but Chu Ying’s point was a bit strange; he thought of making a class T-shirt just to make the photos look good.
"Uh, are you sure? Aren’t you afraid I’ll design some bizarre outfits for everyone to wear?" Yan Yan asked Chu Ying with a smile.
"What do I have to be afraid of? Since it’s a class T-shirt, everyone’s clothes will be the same. As long as Qi University’s Hottest Guy dares to wear it, what wouldn’t I dare to wear? I’m not one to rely on my looks to make a living," Chu Ying wasn’t worried.
Firstly, Chu Ying didn’t see any intention in Yan Yan’s expression that she truly wanted to torment everyone.
Secondly, even if there were, as long as Qi Yi was willing to wear it, Chu Ying really didn’t mind.
"What do you mean, Qi Yi is someone who relies on his looks to make a living?" Yan Yan wanted to confirm with Chu Ying.
"I didn’t say that," Chu Ying didn’t understand what Yan Yan was up to.
"Come on, you clearly did. Say it again, I’ll record it and let Qi Yi listen later, so he can face reality." For some reason, Yan Yan was feeling quite excited.
"Forget it, class president, I really don’t want to offend." Chu Ying didn’t know what Yan Yan was so excited about. freewebnoveℓ.com
"Class president? He was fired a long time ago. In all our hearts, you are the only class president now, and I’ll be upset with anyone who opposes you." Yan Yan urged Chu Ying to repeat himself quickly.
"Don’t you dare!" Chu Ying refused Yan Yan’s suggestion once again; he really didn’t know what she wanted.
Chu Ying was popular with the girls and understood them well, but he was really not sure how to handle Yan Yan’s current behavior.
