Chapter 101: Chapter 98: Not Taking Away a Single Cloud

When Qi Yi woke up, there was a drawing on the bedside table.

The drawing included Qi Yi himself, as well as the "historically flavored" clothes he was wearing at that moment.

Qi Yi was very familiar with the scene, for it was exactly how he looked at that moment.

But there was also Yan Yan in the drawing.

In the drawing, Yan Yan wasn’t just peacefully painting, but plotting something mischievous next to Qi Yi.

Yan Yan had only depicted her own side profile in the background.

This profile was separated from Qi Yi by a three-dimensional classroom building, cautiously kissing Qi Yi’s cheek.

Even just seeing the profile, one felt it must be worried that its actions could wake the "mischievous" target.

Above the scene in the drawing, Yan Yan had also specially marked the sound "mmuhh" with a heart. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

Qi Yi had slept so deeply the day before that he had no idea whether Yan Yan really did take advantage while he was asleep.

But whether she did or not, Qi Yi was quite satisfied with the content of the drawing.

First thing in the morning, upon opening his eyes, Yan Yan had given him a surprise.

However, Qi Yi only saw Yan Yan’s drawing, not Yan Yan herself.

Qi Yi called out, but his Waiwai didn’t respond.

Besides the sound notation in the drawing, there were a few lines written at the bottom.

Not finding Yan Yan, Qi Yi began to read the words at the bottom of the drawing:

Grandpa, good morning, seeing the painting is like seeing me.

I actually took the flight this morning~

I wanted to have breakfast with you and then tell you, to spare you from feeling sad last night.

You know I’m really bad at goodbyes.

I especially, especially, especially look forward to the days when there are no goodbyes coming sooner.

Just now, seeing you sleeping so soundly, I couldn’t bear to wake you, so I just had to take advantage of last night once more.

You surely have already seen what advantage I took.

I’m leaving, my painting will stay to keep you company.

Remember to miss me~

See you in Wenzhou in August~ mmuhh~ muah~

Qi Yi looked around the empty room, which no longer bore any trace of Yan Yan ever being there.

If it weren’t for the painting in his hand, Qi Yi might have started to doubt whether Yan Yan’s visit to New York was just a dream.

Yan Yan had left just like that, catching him off guard.

Her arrival was sudden, and her departure even more so.

Why did his girlfriend always like to do things that caught people unprepared?

Are all artists like that, behaving in such unpredictable ways?

Qi Yi found it hard to believe that Yan Yan had really left just like that, without taking even a cloud with her.

Saying goodbye was certainly sad, but isn’t the lack of a goodbye even sadder?

.........

When Yan Yan’s flight arrived in Shanghai, it was almost two o’clock in the afternoon Beijing Time on the following day.

Yan Yan’s afternoon was Qi Yi’s early morning.

But as soon as she turned on her phone, she received a call from Qi Yi, who should have been asleep by then.

"Why haven’t you gone to sleep yet?" Yan Yan answered the call.

"How could I sleep after you left like that?" Qi Yi said, his voice tinged with hurt and helplessness.

"If you say things like that, I’ll be afraid to visit you from now on~" Yan Yan spoke in a particularly cartoonish and cute way, which was her way of speaking when she knew she was wrong.

"I always have to wait until you’ve arrived safely before I can sleep peacefully," Qi Yi said, unable to find happiness in such a moment.

"Is that so, then I’m sorry for making you wait. Here, let me give you a kiss, mmuhh, still not enough, another one, mmuhh, can you sleep peacefully now?" Yan Yan, knowing she was wrong, was more enthusiastic than usual.

"When I ask you for a kiss, you don’t give one, but you either kiss through the phone or sneak them in. Do you think that’s fun?" Qi Yi remembered another "sad matter."

"Of course it’s fun, why would I be so eager if it wasn’t?" Yan Yan was very clear about her stance; she was not one to do un-fun things.

"Next time, show me some hands-on practice, so I can learn something. Alright?" Qi Yi teased Yan Yan, who was all talk and no action.

"Ah, my hands-on skills aren’t ready to show off yet. When I’m skilled enough, I’ll find you first to trial it," Yan Yan ignored the obvious teasing in Qi Yi’s words.

"First? Skilled enough? Then who are you planning to find second?" Qi Yi questioned what Yan Yan had just expressed.

"The second one? That would be messing up the order, I’ll just find my grandpa," Yan Yan responded without a second thought.

"Fine then, your grandpa will wait for you to return skilled," Qi Yi responded with anticipation.

"Ah? How am I supposed to learn that?" Yan Yan never said what she needed to learn.

"You’re asking me? Who should I ask? I can’t read your brainwaves," Qi Yi mimicked Yan Yan’s way of speaking.

"Alright already, stop moping and go to sleep, grandpa good night~" Yan Yan urged Qi Yi to rest.

.........

Yan Yan returned to Shanghai from New York.

She had decided on a whim to visit New York, and the ticket she bought was round-trip.

Even though Yan Yan was a bit reluctant to face Jin Jin’s interrogation, after going so long without seeing Jin Jin, who always bantered with her, Yan Yan somewhat missed her.

"Waiwai, you actually dared to come to Shanghai," was the first thing Jin Jin said upon seeing Yan Yan.

"How could I not dare? It’s just a matter of it being a bit bigger or smaller," Yan Yan replied, having just arrived in Shanghai and needing to rest one evening before learning to handcraft patterns.

The flight to the United States didn’t seem so bad, but after another dozen hours on the plane, Yan Yan was starting to feel a bit tired.

However, tired as she was, Jin Jin had been waiting so long to settle accounts with her that since Yan Yan was already in Shanghai, she might as well clear up the old debts.

"How did you manage to hook up with Qi Yi again?" Jin Jin had never understood how, during high school, Qi Yi and Yan Yan suddenly got together.

As Yan Yan’s desk mate, even Jin Jin thought the two of them coming together was somewhat abrupt.

There were plenty of girls in the class who watched Qi Yi, but somehow, Yan Yan managed to win him over so suddenly.

To this day, Jin Jin found it strange. She had directly asked Yan Yan about it.

Yan Yan’s response to Jin Jin was, "I don’t know anything about that."

Qi Yi had misunderstood that Yan Yan had been watching him because she liked him, which Yan Yan herself only learned about recently from Qi Yi’s own admission.

Back in high school, when Jin Jin had grilled her about it, Yan Yan truly didn’t know, and wasn’t just hiding the truth.

Jin Jin, though always bantering, had no malice; she was simply puzzled.

Just like Jin Jin later couldn’t understand why, after the end of their second year, Yan Yan insisted on breaking up with Qi Yi.
